Given the fact Obama has proven to be a less than stellar president and recent polls showing Mitt Romney running even...

How many of you think that Mitt Romney being a Mormon has anything to do with his chances of becoming president?

From what I read the baptists and evangelicals don't like mormonism but catholics don't mind and that left
leaning democrats don't care for it either. Democrats
aren't voting for Romney anyway so the question is
what effect does Romney's mormonism have on the all important southern electorate. I guess more narrowily
southern independents. Who would be less objectionable to these voters--the black guy or the weirdo religionist. That's kinda crude but....what do you think?

Mormon religion isn't what a lot of people think.
It is christian Much like others.
A book of mormonism to them is like rosary to catholics.
Religion should NOT be a factor in elections to public office.
I have worked with them & they are a great group of people.
There are some ,
just like others that cause trouble.

I am familiar with the religion and the Book of Mormon, also the Koran and a few other beliefs. My thoughts are just focused on how the voting populace perceives his religion. Are they 21st century where a person's beliefs are nothing more or they expecting the White House to be filled with 20 of his wives and no coffee with your donuts?

Another thought - does the party believe this is not a factor in Romney's ability to land the job? Just how generic of an individual would appeal to all the voters?

No, you summed that up perfectly! Romney's religion would only matter in the south, and since he is a white repub, they will look past it!.

I'd say that if Romney and Obama are nominated on the GOP and Democratic tickets respectively, the elections may well turn out to be quite similar to what happened in November, 1960 when Nixon had the edge on Kennedy on the basis of popular votes but Kennedy had the edge on Nixon when he (Kennedy) won on the basis of electoral votes. Are any of you readers here old enough to remember when a big deal was made about Kennedy's Roman Catholicism which was probably instigated by Nixon who was a Quaker? Nevertheless, Kennedy was the first Catholic to run for and be elected President of the USA. Oh, I realize that most of you who regularly read these threads were either too young or hadn't been born yet to remember any of the above except what some of you may have read about it in the history books but I am 69 and I remember all of the above as if it happened yesterday. One more thing: it may not really matter who gets elected President....we know that things may never really change except those made by private industry and the masses. Think about it. I welcome your response hereon.

why is it that no one talks about
romneys mexican wet back heritage?

he is a mexican anchor baby from a
bunch of mormon mexican commune folks
that brought him in to get american
citizenship.

no one talks about this but its true.
you would think that fox would be all
this fact.
