If the teachers are required to live in the city you would have nothing but unqualified teachers that be as dumb as the superintendent of the buffalo schools
I have never lived outside the city of Buffalo. I've been an honor student throughout my elementary school, highschool and college years. And my neighborhood isn't on the news every few months having it's heroin epidemic reported about. Stop being so ignorant and snobbish just because you reside in Hamburg. Most Hamburg residents were once Buffalonians and their neighborhoods are no different than north Buffalo or south Buffalo, your taxes are just higher.

Only city residents should teach in Buffalo... OK, but then for political correctness, no city teachers should be allowed to teach anywhere except Buffalo.
And,LAURA - residency is enforced. There are two hiring lists. For an open position, Buffalo residents are considered first. If no Buffalonian qualifies (usually for specialized classes) the second list (non-residents) is used. This practice does not affect teachers hired before this restriction. Teachers who spent much of their academic lives dedicated teaching in Buffalo, are not forced to move to the city.
Why restrict residence of teachers only? Urbanites should work, shop, worship, etc. only in Buffalo. Urbanites should be required to shop, etc. anywhere except Buffalo. GREAT!
How long will shops, theaters, and of course religious and higher education institutions survive with this plan?? OR will these be moved to the suburbs too... then Buffalo can be a ghost town.
I have an idea - we can build a wall around Buffalo and then no one other than residents can enter or leave.. Wouldn't that solve everything!

I didn't grow up in this area but, for a brief period of 3-4 years, I attended a suburban school. It was not a pleasant experience with some teachers/faculty because NONE of them looked like me. My daughter grew up here and educated in BPS, some teachers who didn't look like her treated and spoke to her in a negative way, at least until I, informed them of what my expectations were from her and my goals for her education; this was usually older teachers that did not look like her.
You have to teach the "whole person" fyi teaching is not throwing a pile of information at your student. You have to connect the student with the subject matter, bringing them to "understanding" of the subject. If a student cannot go home and complete their homework The Paycheck has NOT been Earned.
