I read a child called maybe the mom should think before she acted she should be like beaten to death! thats what i bet her son felt like when he was old! i hope David Pelzer isn't abusive to his Wife and Kids like his mom was cause that is just wrong for anyone to do!
You should read his other two books....it explains more about his life growing up. On into adulthood and parenthood. The man has more willpower than I will ever have! I really don't think I would have had the strength to confront "The Mother" without screaming and yelling profanities. And he talked to her on a few different occasions. Absolutely amazing. I hate that she never apologized, or explained WHY she did that to him. And his older siblings got treated like kings. It just makes no sense.:( Such a sad story.

i read a child called it a while ago, and i just remembered in the back of the book that it said that it was the 3rd worst case. I think people who abuse their kids like that should go to jail, and for an additional punishment should receive the same fate they gave to their kids but worse and twice as long. what i just dont get is why people go through the effort just to make their kids miserable.

Coming from a freshman who's actually been saved from this stuff u all read about, looking back now, i wasn't really mad at the people who did it, more like the people who didn't listen. The people who didn't take the time to report the wide open cuts and dark bruises i displayed to the world. maybe it isn't just the children service people who need to step up and take a stand, maybe it's the teachers at school or the fireman on show-n-tell day. The next door neighbors who experience the presence of the child. Anything with a voice and a heart to help those who are being neglected and abused. Yes, County service's have a very good reputation for missing things, but they don't deal or see people like me who have been abused for any long amount of years on a day to day basis. The only reason i was abused longer then i should have been (3-8years old) by my older b is because my friends, family etc... didn't take the time to look at my arm or to feel the pain i felt. So when we say we need better Children service workers, we have to think 'what can i do to make them better.

OMG! This breaks my heart! The Mother needs to be treated like she treated her Son! Maybe then there will be less child abusing!
actually if you do research on the book, it says his mother was also abused as a child.

for all who want to know i did research on the book, David's mother was abused as a child, and also she died of a heart attack. She was convected, but never went to jail, do to the fact that there weren't many child abuse laws back then. And you might want to considered that it was in the 50's where every thing was kept in the "closet"

I just got done reading "A Child Called It." This book absolutely broke my heart. I just don't understand how a mother could do that to her son. This child at a young age showed courage that I haven't shown yet at 17. I don't think I could ever be as brave as him. I think that someone should've stepped in way early on. No child should have to go through that for as long as he did.
no child should have to go through that at all!!! it's truely a horrific experiance...and i think that people should know that even the smallest bit of abuse, such as a slap in the face, can elevate into such things as what happened to david.

The most horrific story of child abuse I've read is "A Death in White Bear Lake," a story of Dennis Jurgens, a 3-year old boy who was brutally abused and murdered by his adopted mother, Lois Jurgens, back in 1965. Lois's numerous brothers and sisters, as well as other townspeople of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, were aware of the abuse but did nothing to stop it. In fact, her brother, Jerome Zerwas, was a lieutenant on the police force and helped to cover up the murder. The descriptions of the abuse he endured for nearly two years are absolutely horrific. His birth mother eventually learned of the murder some 20 years later when she tried to locate him. The body was exhumed (and was well preserved), and a repeat autopsy performed by a forensic pathologist (the inital autopsy was performed by a general pathologist in '65, however the cause of death was labeled 'deferred'). Lois was eventually prosecuted and found guilty of 3rd degree murder and sentenced to 15 years to life. Unfortunately, she was released after 8 years for good behavior (gotta love those Minnesota liberals).

I also read A Child Called It for the first time in my life. It was so good I couldn't put it down and I ended up reading it in a day. It was horrible how the mother tortured an innocent little boy makes you think of how many parents or guardians like this one are out there.

I just finished reading his brothers auto birography and she went from Dave to him after he got rescued. From what I know she never got charged because Richard never reported her to the authorities. I just hope that people never have to go through anything like that because it just broke my heart to know a child got abused that badly for so long.
