Hurry! The bait shop needs your tax dollars!

This will be a huge draw. People will come from miles... Well, not really. There's one in Syracuse. That's 2 hours away. Have any of you made a day trip out of it? No?

Has anyone asked Gander Mountain™ how they feel about the government funding their competition?

I think they want to fast-track it because downtown is starting to take off and people will soon realize we don't need to hand out freebies...

Yep, people will come from all over the US, Canada, Europe, Asia and Outer Space to OUR Bass Pro. It's sooooo speshull......

Do they really expect anyone to get excited at this point or even give it one ounce of credibility?

As a company, Bass Pro is a pathetic failure if they can't even open a store without a welfare check. Wegmans doesn't seem to have a problem building a store without help. In fact, MOST retailers can build a store without sucking off the public teat...

We don't want our tax money going into this project. Who in their right mind is going to pay to get their store built, then pay to shop there and oh yeah let's not forget that we will have to pay for parking too. Please have your head examined over this one. We sure don't need any more minimum wage jobs here either.

You may be on to something there...The picture could look vastly different a year from now. If we had retailers lining up to be part of Canalside (still a big if) why would we want to pass out corporate welfare to a glorified tackle shop?

You know it is pathetic I will never see it. I sold my house today. My family and I are moving out of state. Where we are moving however is a Bass pro shop. They built it in less then a year. One year. What is sad about Bufalo is the grid lock that ties everyone up, and how john q public keeps voting the same people back in year after year. Sedita Jr. his father was Frank Sedita now we are getting generational politicians, same on the state level.
I moved back here 28 years ago because I thought things were going to change. They did, they got worse. I will not let my children get stuck here in the defeatist attitudes that run amuck. The highest property taxes in the nation, second poorest city in the nation, welfare roles that would choke a horse.
So you people enjoy your Bass pro shop next to the new canal, and casino, the economy around here will not support the bass pro shop. Just take a look downtown at all the bars that have opened and closed in the last five years. Now there is a statement, can't even keep people drunk in Buffalo! Buffalos economy will collapse when gas will hit $8 a gallon sometime in 2010 if not sooner. People better start looking at the realities. Bass Pro is not an industry, Labatts is not a industry and New era cap pays what minimum wage? Yep deep dodo. But hey the population drain continues good-bye you over taxed soon to be football-less poor industry-less busted economyless people, have fun with mayor suit, the control board, watch them kick sand in collins face, keep electing do nothing politicians. Oh yeah and keep watching the owner of the sabres gleem talent for the rest of the NHL. SEE YA. BASS PRO 2010 more like 2020 HAAAAAAAAAAA

Geez, how many tax payer dollars are we offering? I wish the Government would quit wasting money trying to bring retail business here. If the retail wants to come, let them pay.

If a local government can afford to buy a Bass Pro then we are paying way too much in taxes. I didn't get any tax dollars to open my business so I don't expect the taxes I pay going to support someone else's business. Another band-aid fix because politicians are obsessed with getting as much for themselves as possible instead of addressing the real problem.

Now that Bass Pro is in a hurry to open a store here, lets pull the plug on the $60 million taxpayer contrubution and say we don't want them here any more. Now that the waterfront is marketable, lets examine which other businisses are interested in this area.

Obviously none of you know what you are talking about so here are some facts...1..The store is in Auburn, not Syracuse and is a small mall store. Lots of die hard sportsmen from here go there to shop. 2..Bass Pro has never had a store fail, and having a mega store here will be a big draw for both customers and other retailers. I personally have traveled to Wheeling WV to a Cabelas store which is similar to Bass Pro, several times. That store was built in the middle of nowhere and in a couple years time has attracted several new business's including a Super Walmart.
Bass pro is not just fishing tackle, I would bet any one of you could visit there and find something you want. So check out the facts before you spout off, look at thier website and see some of thier other stores.

We left 2 years ago and have NEVER REGRETTED IT! Buffalo is a sad sad city and the people are just as pathetic to think that anything is going to change (and you nailed it on the head about voting in the same old garbage over and over again)! Taxes, apathy, no industry, no future, and hanging on to the hopes of a Bass Pro (it's a freaking retail store that should NOT get paid to come to your town)!!!
