Michigan a right to work state? Now that's poetic justice...I believe that most unions are basically good, and yes, I am a union member, attend meetings, try to buy only U.S. and Union Made labels and I have walked a lot of picket lines! But sometimes we're our own worst enemy. When private sector unions over step their bounds...companies go under, send work overseas and everyone looses. Government Unions on the other hand, have no negotiating, they simply make demands, and 'someone else'(tax payers, including minimum wagers) will pay for it. Municipalities and even States are going broke trying to keep up with crazy 'sweetheart deal' union benefits and retirements. In our depressed economy, with most folks facing higher prices, layoffs, downsizing and plant closings, are being forced to pay ever higher wages and benefits to Government unions! Unions need to start policing their own!

Cutting out financial support for the Democratic party is what this is all about. Workers rights, that's' what they claim is what the GOP cares about...really!

The mechanisms for social decay were well establish in Detroit well before Reagan. The elements of society that always make the news for drug and violent crime were and are still there. Nice try blaming Reagan. You moron. Unions were a problem decades before Reagan and are even worse today.

Most union members pay dues and get nothing in return for it. Union membership is a requirement for employment at a company. The members are only part time (by design of the union) and get no benefits. All they get is smaller pay checks.

If unions were positioned only where they are truly needed (if there is such a place) and the workers were models of efficiency and not just out taking 10 smoke breaks every day then maybe that would help their cause. Obviously the problem is their cause is just to make the fat cats even fatter and nothing else.

Yep...if "problems" mean doing away with child labor, 7 day work weeks, no safety standards, and low wages, then yeah unions were "bad". And yes, Reagan was responsible for many problems we have even now....he was a neo-fascist who nearly destroyed this country with his policies!! You Koch-worshipping Republitard tool....

If the Koch Brothers have their way and the Unions cease to exist, you can bet there will be a bunch of new laws turning around everything the unions worked for .
If the Koch Brothers could get away with out paying overtime for working over 40 hours they would have people working as many hours as they could and only pay them min. wage that is IF we still have a min. wage.
And if you spoke up about being forced to work so much they would just fire you and put somebody else in your job at a lower pay.
Yes lets go back to the early 1900s that is a great idea.
Maybe some of these people who think unions are really bad should go look up some history books and read them.
Read about the fires in factories where people were working for almost nothing and they couldn't get out because they were locked in and died.
read about kids working just to help feed their families.
There are a lot more things the unions worked to improve like safity laws.
OHSA would be one of the first things to go if it was up to them.
People should think about just what is happening and wake up before it is too late.
And don't say it can't or won't happen because it can.
