I think that if an established business downtown wants to bring more business to an already decaying downtown Buffalo, then by all means they should be allowed to do so. If the club is legally partaking in business, then there is nothing wrong with that. I just think that the Catholics in the neighborhood are afraid of anyone that is different than they are.

Last time I checked.. the bible said "judge not lest ye be judged"... I don't see the big deal about having drag shows. But I'm biased. I LOVE drag shows. Maybe if these close-minded catholics (christians.. you name it) would spend less time judging people, and more time worrying about their own life.. then this wouldn't be an issue. Not to mention ... "you catch more flies with honey, than with vinegar".. you're not going to do any good shoving religion down anybody's throat. Approaching the situation with LOVE would be a better idea. Remember... according to "the word".. Jesus hung out with hookers and tax collecters... but in todays society? We avoid people who are different from us like they had the plague... doesn't sound very "christ-like" to me. I say.. let the show begin.

If people were against war as much
as they are against sexual expression
there would be peace on earth.

It shouldnt matter if the Catholic Diocese is across the street. This club should have the right to hold drag shows.

I hope I don't sound stupid, but I'm confused. Are they talking about like drag shows with cars or drag shows like "drag shows"???? LOL... I like the second idea better.:)

What would Bishop Sheen do? I think he'd rally people to stand up to this nightclub and fight the introduction of perversion and decadence into the Community.

I hope the Bishop and the Priest get a lot of people together to fight this. We just don't need more degenerates... we don't need more perversion, or more decadence.

I notice the homophobes and haters are not even from WNY. You should stick your hate in a bag and smoke it buddy. And if you want to throw rocks at degenerates and perverts then I am sure their must be a Catholic church in your neighborhood.

I bet your writing your letter in your wife's panties.

Good grief. Only in Buffalo can the Catholic Church have enough oozing influence that it can determine what happens on property it doesn't even own. I thought tax paying citizens had the ability to voice opinions that would be heard loudly- but HERE- the tax exempt church has the ability to determine what would be a business- a tax paying, income producing venue. Also, it's not like drag shows don't already exist in Buffalo. Also- drag shows don't mean lewd lascivious behavior.
Besides, St. Louis church isn't a neighborhood church the way other parish churches are- that is- suburban parishes. The members mostly live outside of Buffalo and drive in to worship. Heck-It's not like a drag show would be going on during Sunday worship hours. Most congregation members probably are too fearful even currently to be caught in the big, mean streets of the urban jungle of downtown Buffalo after dark anyway.
I say, Yeah!- another venue for potential good talent rich entertainment in Buffalo.
(When is it opening?)
:)

Not the kind with cars Jennifer, so you'll be happy.

Is it true the priests said they'd need to see the drag shows privately a few hundred times before they decide to approve?

I'd much rather see a show from Jennifer, but not in the bar. :)

I wouldn't think the catholic church's decision should effect it.... Jus have it at another bar what's the problem?

Why should any Catholics care? They should worry more about retaining & building their own church memberships (How many churchs have they closed already & are planning to close?) rather than what specialty shows an local existing (& thriving) business has.

I support this business venture, good luck.

how many of those catholics do you think would actually attend the drag show? maybe then, with the drag show acrossed the street, more catholics would be inspired to attend church as well, feeling guilty and all. that would solve everything, drag shows are happy, and the church gets more donations.

I don't get it. In the land free from religious persecution, separation of church & state, why would it be up to the church to decide? If this gets blocked they should take it to a higher court. It's extremely unconstitutional.
Are people seriously thinking this means there will be big ugly guys in mini skirts & bad makeup dancing in the street during mass? This is Buffalo not Frisco.
There's already several drag shows going on within a couple blocks of that area. Up until just a few years ago there used to be drag shows 1/2 block from there.
We don't see this pouring out into the streets yet in Buffalo, & plenty of drag shows have been going on here long before we were born.
What about the cross-dressed actors that have performed shows in the theater district, or in films at nearby cinemas? Do they also get banned because a church don't like it? Most of these clubs have television too. Will they be closed if someone is in drag on the TV?
I think we should fear crack-heads, & gangstas mugging innocent vulnerable people after dark or breaking into the cars that are constantly in the area, rather than ugly guys with poor taste in dresses & shoes.

I totally agree with you. These Catholics are too busy minding everyone else's business except their own. They have done nothing to retain & build a flourishing faith. All they have accomplished is to drive younger people away from their religion by condeming anything they do not agree with.

It is no wonder that multi & non-demoninational churchs are growing so fast.
