So what? If he weren't king of the Topix boards, he would be king-o'-the-McDonald's breakfast crowd, yakking it up with all the other retirees on the first of the month...

The civil war ended in 1865, 100 years before we were born. Get over it already. You can tell the people over at Stone Mountain to stop teaching it like it happened yesterday.

NOT TRUE ~LIFE~!!!
DO we HAVE to go through this again????

I wish I could copy you calling your mother "Mammy" to this thread or I could just lead the people here ...over to where you said that to me.You say you are hear to teach people....

Like we need another hateful person leading us in life.

"If" anyone "wants" to see what ~Life~ is like to people of the south ....just go ahead and feel free to check threads in the south and see what WE go through.

Luckily, I AM a "WiseA$$" so I can take it and give it right back

But hey I'd rather be a wise a$$ any day of the week
... than a DUMBA$$ for two minutes!!!!!

Have you even been to Stone Mountain?????? The Civil War tribute is not to argue the facts...It is a tribute to remember by.....

Gee, I am so thankful that MY FRIENDS in NY treat me with social graces! I have actually enjoyed my visits up there. And...I have NEVER treated anyone with such disrespect for where they come from.

NO they don't make fun of me at all....neither do any of the family in Jersey, or the friends in Pa. for that matter

Actually I don't sound deep south at all...I have an education.

Yes, as a matter of fact I HAVE been to Stone Mountain. I have also been to Kennesaw Mountain. They teach the Civil War at the visitor center at Stone Mountain with a decidedly Confederate slant.

We stopped at place called Harold's for BBQ (a favorite of Jeff Foxworthy - Cracklin' Cord Bread was amazing, along with everything else). On the way out, an old cop was standing out front and we asked directions to Kennesaw... He offered them up in a heavy southern accent. At the end, when we were leaving, he muttered, "Your boys killed a lot of men up there". It was very low but two of us heard it...

I've seen it enough. Plenty of Southerners are still resentful, even though they were born a hunded years later. And, no they are not all like that.

I am considering learning another language...just because I can.
Let's see.... maybe Hebrew.[very interesting when studying the Bible]
And French! That would be good ...I am half french anyway.

That is fine if you need to but I would not be included in that group you feel drawn to. I do wish you luck though. Just remember however, everyone is facing hard times. Not everyone can control things around them and when they meet challenge they need support not criticism.
Later I'm sure![you could never resist a comment]

I hate that someone said that to you....gives a bad reflection/
especially since most of us don't feel that way at all.
As for the teachings at the visitor center....I don't doubt that they have scripted presentations depicting the memories of how the war was then and I am sure you might have had a tour guide either too young to know or too old to be open minded.
HOWEVER, the whole population of Ga shouldn't be blamed or judged.
The thing about traveling is that you get the demographic versions of history.
I am sure if I returned to New York or Virginia or Philadelphia and toured ANY historic land mark that the tour guides would depict the events of the area at the time history was made.
They didn't just decide that they were gonna bash a group because the tourist weren't from here. Heck, common logic says tourist are from ELSEWHERE.
I just don't ever hear people down here complain about it. I don't think people worry about a hundred years or more ago. People here are concerned for the FUTURE.
People living in and around the city and Metro Atlanta area are very suburban not rural. Kennesaw is more country than where I live and where I live is quite lively, very busy and always hoppin', near [3miles from] the 2nd largest recreational lake in the country[Lanier]. Lake brats tend to be very light hearted, easy going and well dare I say "love to party"...we work hard...don't get me wrong. Gas in these boats gets expensive.
I live in an old house[70yrs] but I CHOSE it and it is 5 minutes from way~2~much traffic. I hear fire trucks and police cars daily like any other city.
Our stress relief is boating and biking. Nothing like a great motorcycle ride on a sunny day up into the Great Smokey Mountains.
I have lived around Atlanta for over 50 years and represent this community with pride, but I also know my community is proud of me.
I represent the way we are here....supporting charities and needs within our community......so you should visit again!
Or at least realize....you could have a friend in me
