The dicision reached by the Suprem Court regarding the Grand Island Land Claim case ended up being in favor of the Grand Island Residents, who since the United States legall purchas of Grand Island, had been giving the Seneca Nation monitary compensation.

According to the Supreme Court, the Senca Nation, never even owned Grand Island. Grand Island belonged to anoter tribe of Native Americans.

Also, what the Seneca Nation faills to mention is that New York State, in 1954 paid the Senca Nation $750,000.00 for the purchas of the land. If they want the land back, I think that they should pay New York State today's equivilant for the amount of $750,000.00.

If the Seneca Nation is into taking land that does not belong to them, I think that New York State has every right to take back the Seneca's casino in Niagara Falls, NY. This land was sold to them under great objection by many New York States residents.

They gave up the rights years ago,The state paid for that land and the ordeal should be over with. Times have changed.Personally I also was born in the US,so I guess that also makes me a native American and Get Absolutely NO tax breaks. Or here is an idea just re route the NYS thruway and be done with the Issue all together!

I'm quite sure that those of you who commented on your American birth (making you 'native') cannot trace your 'American linage father than 250 years without having an ancestor reach here by an ocean going ship so you can leave that argument in 3rd grade where it originated.
Both state and federal agencies have waged a land grab against the native peoples of this country for nearly 500 years. Now that one tribe has been able to legally stand off this states advances.
These are not the uneducated native americans who had never seen a white man and were easily duped for a few hunks of glass.
Try reading some actual history before condeming a group of people who are trying to retain their heritage.
It is the one group in new york that can't be bullied

No one is trying to bully them. They maintain an affiliation with Greek-theme sororities and fraternities that keeps them unusually busy and in need of fresh aid and open spaces. [in Stuart, FL not Evansville, IN]

I am just so sick of hearing how we stole the Indians land. The Indians are a conquered people, They lost their land. They shouldnt get it back. We should not give them a dime for it.
I think we should reroute the Thruway and I86 around their so called reservation land. The state is being held hostage by these ingrates. They get everything free. I think we should revoke their gaming license. Lets see who holds who hostage.

Yes, except your land, culture, language, religion, and history were not stolen from you by an invading people. Reductionist comments such as the one offered by "Bob" only serve to increase tensions and cement differences. If you were to read only one of the many sad histories of happened to American Indians after the arrival of Europeans, you might feel differently. Read about the Trail of Tears, and then see if you feel justified in making the above comment.

You speak of his comments but forget the the Courts have already ruled on this issue and the Seneca's lost. Attempting to continue to bring up issue's that are in effect dead creates tensions.
Do the Senecas really think public opinion is on their side in this issue? The public is tired of listening to their garbage and they continue to cause problems just because they can.
First the Indians did suffer. PAST TENSE. Today's Indians do not suffer and in fact many have it better then the rest of us. Any current problems they bring on themselves. There are many tribes that are poor (like the rest of us) but it is their own doing. Many banks will not allow loans for houses to be built on "Soverien Indian Land" because they are tired of being ripped off when they don't pay the mortage and then claim you have no right to forclose because we live on a Soverign Nation Land.
I found it amazing that the Senecas refuse to collect taxes on goods sold on "their" land stating they will not collect taxes for another Goverment but they extend their had to the same Goverment for "taxes" to pay for education, roads and many other things. Yes the tax payer in the state of NY and the tax payer in the USA pays for many things on "Soverign Nation Land." They however fail to tell you this.
Another FYI for the tax payer of NY is the fact that if someone is arrested and sent to prision on "Soverign Nation Land" it is the tax payer of NY not the "Soverign Nation" that pays for the housing and feeding of said prisioner. That amounts to over $50,000 a year for each person. Maybe just maybe we should demand they pay this to us???
I would love to move away because I am plain tired of hearing this garbage all the time. Germany is done paying for war crimes from the 1940's but the USA isn't done paying for conquering these lands all the way back in the 1800's.
At what point does it stop. My my childrens grandchildren have to put up with this crap too?
I have no problem with the Senecas being a "Soverign Nation" by all means let them but take the good with the bad. Don't try to take the good then demand that you not deal with the bad. We can set up border crossings and stop all NYS/USA tax payer dollars from going your way. It's amazing that they want to be with us only when it is good for them.
Their treaty states nothing about supporting them forever.
When does this crap stop??

FIRST OF ALL THE WHITE PEOPLE RAPED AND KILLED OUR MOTHERS, AND WE STILL SAT DOWN AND FED YOUR PEOPLE. IT'S A SHAME THAT IGNORANT PEOPLE SUCH AS YOUSELF CAN'T LOOK PASS THE COLOR OF OUR SKIN, HAIR AND EYES. AFTERALL, WE'VE LEARED TO LIVE WITH ALL THE PAIN AND HISTORY. I COULD BE RUDE AND SAY THE WHITES TOOK OUR LAND AND THEY'RE ALL GREEDY BUT WHY SHOULD I? EVERY RACE THAT LIVES IN THE WONDERFUL WORLD HAS HELPED TO MAKE IT WHAT IT IS. WHOEVER YOU REALLY ARE I PRAY FOR YOU, I PRAY THAT SOME DAY YOU'LL OPEN YOUR EYES AND SEE WHAT WE ALL HAVE DONE!!

Most of you people on here have no idea about any of the treaties made. I am Native American from one of the strongest tribes (the only "nation" in fact that ever defeated the U.S. military). And to most of the ignorant people on this forum, our tribe is not conquered, if you count taking weapons from our people leading us to a velley "to make a treaty", and then opening fire on all the men, women and children (read about the Wounded Knee Massacre; or "The Battle of Wounded Knee for all of the white people on here becuase they claim it to be a battle)we have not been defeated. If you are only getting your information from the history books you read in class, you are missing out on a lot. I know that many treaties made by the U.S. government was broken because of their greed. They promised our tribe the Black Hills, and when someone found gold, they proposed a new treaty selling Black Hills (for what is now worth 600million dollars) but we never signed. So basically they stole it from under us. Now Im using our tribe as an example, because clearly we are from another area of the country. And for those who are wondering why we our poor, try living on the reservation. Sure we have things that are free such as health care and education, we are poor because the government is being cheap and with-holding what they actually should be giving us (i.e. read about the Trust Reform) and it is intentional. For the government to shred documents dating back to when the WHITE PEOPLE first started making "deals" with us, they shredded evidence so they can keep money; GREED!!! And for you people who want a little something from us, you are on our land what else do you want? In case you didn't know, the little bit of land that we are offered becuase the US government is so gernerous (rolls eyes) brings in money so we can support our people, government, and try to improve our living. So "what about the rest of you" well the rest of you can quit talking down on our people because you aren't Native American. You have no idea about what we go through. I live on a reservation. I am from a place where people weren't allowed to get edcated until the 60's. Im from a place where education is so poor that the average ACT score is a 18. I am from a place where higher educaction is just now arising.I am from a place where we have to wait three hours to see a doctor on an appointment. I am from a place where our nation struggles to stay out of debt becuase we were "given so much." I am from the reservation, so unless you have lived there before, please don't make assumptions before you go through the experience.so please, make sure you actually know about Native American history before you talk smack, because I am tired of "opinionated" people who have no knowledge of the issue...THANK YOU!!!
