Police officers put their lives on the line EVERY single day that they go to work. I think thi is the least she deserves. Her life should be made as comfortable as possible. The money from those fundraisers will not last long.

I dont think the money from the fundraisers will go far, considering the unbelievable medical bills. I understand she has insurance coverage - but they do only cover so much, and aren't going to pay for things that might make her life a little easier if that is even possible. Like this car.

I agree with others in saying this whole matter is pure media hogging for those involved with "charity". Sure she may have some medical bills, however, I wonder how many doctors are "donating" their time to be a part of this media milked circus.

Your point is fair, however law enforcement are trained to expect that situation every day & have protection against it, teachers are unarmed, do not wear bullet-proof vests & are not trained in such matters. They are beaten & killed in cold blood.

Yeah I'm guessing police officers have a more dangerous job then the teachers. I know teachers get hurt in fights and yes students do carry guns to school - but police officers get shot so much more and they are there to protect us. I know Carl Andolina (never met Patty) he is a respectable man and I just as grateful for his work as I am our soldiers work. They are here to protect us, if one gets shot in the process and they give her a car because of money they raised who am I to judge that?

A bullet proof vest didn't stop a bullet from severing her spine, did it? How exactly do you train for being shot in face and paralyzed? If you don't feel she is worthy of sympathy or help, don't contribute.

All she did was get injured on her job. How many hundreds of other blue collar workers are injured daily around Western New York without any media fanfare?
Quick questions, how many construction workers have been KILLED (not injured) this year alone?
What about teachers that are beaten up in schools here from thugs? Any fundraisers for their families?
<quoted text>
i work construction in buffalo and there is NO comparison to what patty went through and will have to go through the rest of her life. a construction worker is not there to try and protect the public. he does not have to put himself in danger every day. if an accident occurs it is because of the individuals' error, he didn't protect himself. if a gunman comes into your place of work is it your job to try and stop him? no it's the job of a cop. we are all praying for your recovery Patty. I for one will always remember your sacrifice for the safety of others.

I think this is a wonderful gift for her. She is a brave person and Deserves this vehicle to get around Buffalo and should be awarded The Bravest of Western New York. The reason why I think she should be awarded this is because she has been through so much.

Can we all stop attacking each other and feeling sorry for ourselfs long enough to wish this women well. If we lock up the troublemakers to start with, this wouldn't have happened. I think we need to look at the laws that free this type of person and attack that issure not who gets what and who doesn't. You people are starting to get a little scary with your thinking!

Officer Parete passed away this morning. Insurance did nothing to give her her life back. Do you know how many fundraisers they had? Not many. She didn't want that. She kind of withdrew into herself. Not out of self-pity. Her active life was taken from her and she didn't know how to get it back within herself. Her friends saw what was happing and they were helpless to help her. Do you know her? I would say no! She patrolled the streets of Buffalo to make them safer and met up with some really bad person that night. And because of that her friends and family lost her and we have another loser sitting in the system who will get out someday. Worry about the tax dollars he is eating up! Officer Parete worked for those tax dollars. That thug didn't . And she has paid the ultimate price for it now. I think if you had to live a day in the life of officer Parete after her shooting you would not of questioned those tax dollars one bit. And do you think you had the guts to do her job in the first place?

Varner Harris is the REAL victim in this case. That poor boy, who was harassed by police while on his way home from church to study for his pre-med college courses, will be in jail for another 25 years and, thanks to a couple overzealous cops, his hopes for a career in medicine have been shattered.

I get that construction is a dangerous job, but TEACHERS?

Be serious

I think a couple may have been killed at Sandy Hook, but that's it

There were 120 cops killed in the line of duty in 2012

47 Buffalo cops have died in the line of duty

I don't think ANY Buffalo teachers have ever been killed on the job

And there are alot more teachers than cops
