Talk is cheap, but facts don't lie.
Look at the republicans, what they do and laws they want. In reality they have moved farther to the right than they were.

President Jimmy Carter, summer, 1977: "Penalties against possession of a drug should not be more damaging to an individual than the use of the drug itself". Marijuana MOST ASSUREDLY fits in this category, and that statement ALSO means if legal alcohol and tobacco are more damaging than marijuana (which they are) then there is NO valid reason for outlawing the latter, and in fact to do so is tantamount to a 'persecution' rather than well-intentioned 'nannyism'.
I've always considered the fight for DEFACTO, LEGAL-AND-'LUXURY'-TAXED marijuana for adult use more of a 'culture wars' issue than a "drug" issue for this very reason, and even to this day there are Harry Anslinger / Carlton Turner / Richard Nixon / fictional Sgt. Joe Friday types still out there who actually agree with Carter, but noneheless still think cannabis in raw,'unprocessed' bud form should remain illegal because it tends to attract the (various) kinds of people that they just tend to hate in general!
This PERSECUTION must end, and as an economic bonus New York State could use the revenue as well instead of clandestine sources.

Hey, THANKS, and I've heard Norm Stamper and Peter Christ speak live myself. I seriously doubt though that hard drugs would be 'defacto' legalized with no restrictions whatsoever except age limit and would probably still require some kind of prescription to procure.

It's just too unrealistic at this time to believe that the whole prescription "system" will fade away ... I mean if one still needs an Rx for goddamned VIAGRA then 'legal' cocaine will most assuredly require one too!

It's true, honesty has gotten the republicans nowhere...

SUDDENLY they're ALL talking (quasi) libertarian on social issues ... SIMULTANEOUSLY, too! And this includes Rand now talking like big daddy Ron Paul.

If this is a trend, sign me up as a Republican for both 2014 and '16 even though when things like this just "happen" en masse I always suspect the 'Illuminati' or 'Secret Government' or 'Great Conspiracy' or 'CIA-within-the-CIA' or WHATEVER term you personally prefer to be secretly behind it all.

WHY they would be pushing a more socially-libertarian agenda all of a sudden I have no clue, but if they are I'll vote for them over the Democrats or the Libertarians!
