Congress has failed to pass legislation for unemployment extensions beyond the month of February .( R ) Senator Jim Bunning of Kentucky was the lone senator to block this legislation . Close to one million people will lose their benefits by March and more than 5 million by June.

Bunning was heard to utter " Tough sh** " as democrats opposed his stance on this critical package .

Bunning is just a typical hateful conservative. The bush recession was caused by poor conservative policies that favored teh wealthy, and then they dont want to help out the people they hurt.

Whats amazing is how many inbred fools vote repub against their own self interests

Hawaii is bracing for a potentially damaging tsunami triggered by the massive earthquake off Chile that was a 8.8 almost 1,000 times more powerful than Haiti's.
I was in 3 cities in Chile in 1986. A beautiful city with beattiful churches. The Haiti whiners can go to hell.

So how are the liberal loons going to blame this Earthquake on global warming? You'll soon see on MSNBC and CNN.

MSNBC was punked by a guy pretending to be USA goaltender Ryan Miller. What morons these liberals are.

Tax cuts Bush enacted gave economy a boost

I agree with the writer who said President George W. Bush’s tax cuts were not just for the wealthy. For a taxable income of $60,000 in 2009 filed jointly, taxes will be $8,169. The tax rate does not reach 25 percent until income is $67,900. In 2000, an income of $60,000 would result in a tax of $1,100. A rate of 28 percent is applied to income above $43,850.

Also, someone needs to explain how Bush’s tax cuts caused our problems. His tax cuts brought us out of a serious decline in the stock market. He overcame a normal correction, the Enron scandal, 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina, all of which affected the stock market. Many higher income earners were small businessmen who expanded their businesses by hiring more employees with more money to spend because of reduced taxes. Full employment increases total tax revenue to pay the bills. The Dow continued to rise until the crash.

The biggest reason for the mess we are in is the Fannie and Freddie disaster, and who controlled Congress when that mess hit? I will leave it up to you to decide who should take most of the blame.

Hmm, let's play where they white or black? I say "BLACK." No doubt.

Obama had his super majorty and couldn't do jack squat with it. A weak, poor, naive leader.

One trillion dollars of our money to cover only 30 million people?

What happened to the other 17 million Americans?

Did Obama just throw them under the bus like he just did with Desiree Rogers and NY state Gov. David Paterson?

It was 47-50 million uninsured Americans but now all we hear about is just 30 million. What a load of crap.

NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, Fox news all reported 496,000 jobs lost. Over 20,000 more than expected, you fat/obese bald, ingnorant Kraut.(99 whole weeks)

In the week ending Feb. 20, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 496,000, an increase of 22,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 474,000. The 4-week moving average was 473,750, an increase of 6,000 from the previous week's revised average of 467,750.

One is only forced back into the workforce if the job offer pays atleast 80% of their prior salary. Otherwise, one can stay on unemployment. That and working under the table sometimes increases cashflow.LOL.

Math breakdown on unemployment. Say you earn a 40K/ year salary. You get 24 paychecks a year. Before taxes,$1667 is your paycheck. Lets say you get 30 % taken out.$1667 x .7 is $1166.90.$1166.90 x 2 =$2333.80/month.

Unemployment/ week is 1/26 your most recent quarter (3 months of income). So a 40K salary means 10K in quarterly income.

$10000 x 1/26 =$384.62 . So your weekly check is $384.62. Multiply that x's 4, your monthly unemployment is $1538.48 .

$2333.80 -$1538.48 =$795.32

So one loses $795.32 /month on unemployment after losing a 40K salaried job.

$795.32 / 4 =$198.83

Per week....one only needs to make atleast $198.83 "under the table" in order to live the same standard they had financially prior to job loss.

I am aware unemployment is taxable income. It's also a good opportunity to file chapter 7 bankruptcy. Regardless of how much money you made prior to layoff, NY State caps your weekly unemployment at $405/ week. That Means Test for Chapter 7 is a snapshot based on your last 6 months of income. Say you had a 70K /year job. That is too high of income to qualify for chapter 7. The income to qualify for chapter 7 in WNY is appx. 50K. However, this 70K/year recent layoff can sit back and collect unemployment at $405/week for the next 6 months. Then File Chapter 7 since he's only been making $405/week for the past 6 months.

Bear in mind when filing bankruptcy while on unemployment, make sure you have less than 50K in home equity. Otherwise, the trustee could take your home if you have more than 50K in home equity. If you are someone who recently purchased a 20 or 30 year mortgage note, chances are very high you owe more than the home is worth so not only do you qualify to the 50K home equity exemption, you probably have negative equity.

Also don't use credit cards in the 3-4 months leading up to bankruptcy. By all means charge away if you can wait 6 months to file. Just don't charge away and stop paying completely. Make atleast "a few" minimum payments on your credit cards after you max them to "make it look good" so it doesn't look like you purposely maxed them and walked. After ,making 3 monthly payments after you max your cards. THEN stop paying. Do not make any new charges for 3 months and then file bankruptcy.

Make sure you do this ATLEAST 6 months before filing bankruptcy. Max out your cards with a cash advances and keep the cash under the mattress. Preferably, make the cash advance at the casino even if you have no intentions of gambling. That way, you have a reasonable alibi if the trustee or potential creditor brings it up at the 341 meeting.Obviously NEVER admit you maxed the cards just to hoard cash. Say "I really thought I could win at the casino in hopes of paying back what I owe." It doesn't matter if it's rational in the eyes of people. "The least sophisticated consumer" is the standard they look at.Hoard the cash and wait atleast 6 months to file. Make a few "minimum payments" once again on those cards to "show good faith". That will most likely eliminate presumption of fraud. Then again, wait a final 90 days of not charging or paying anything and file.

usually these 'bills' have very little to do with whatever they are advertised to do...yes, it may extend unemployment, but it is probably 'loaded' with unrelated spending...I haven't read the bill and I don't know what Bunning's beef is, but I will check it out before I make a judgement

I call it a savvy financial planning tool for those who encounter bad luck with unexpected drops in income. I make no apologies for offering such advice. These same banks got their bailouts last year and misused the money the US Government gave them so I consider this advice a "Consumer Bailout Plan."

Gee, you don't think any consumer with a brain preplans their bankruptcy in advance? Maximize NY State exemptions and leave as little nonexempt assets as possible to the trustee.

If you have "toys" that are vulnerable in Chapter 7 bankruptcy, make sure you sell them for "fair market value" before filing. Yeah, that leaves you with cash that may be vulnerable to be taken by the trustee. However, use that same cash to pay down your mortgage BEFORE you file bankruptcy. If that cash from selling your toys still leaves your mortgage with less than 50K in equity after paying a lump sum towards your mortgage note, you still keep your home and the trustee can't take it. Why pay a credit card if you are filing anyhow? Credit cards and all unsecured credit (excluding student loans, government loans and child support) is discharged in a chapter 7.

If you want me to play dirty pool.....atleast 6 months before filing, max out your cards by buying gift cards at any given stores for x amount of dollars. Say you have $50 gift cards at Wegmans or Walmart....sell them for $40 cash each. Put the $40 for each card under the mattress. When one purchases items on credit, it only shows the amount you spent. Not what you purchased. If you have a $200 credit purchase at wegmans, one doesn't know if it's on groceries or 4 $50 gift cards.

Another perfect example of converting nonexempt assets to exemt assets prior to bankruptcy.

Stocks are nonexempt assets so common sense says sell your stocks before filing bankruptcy.

You have a home worth 100K but you owe 130K on it. You are 30K in negative equity. Plus the 50K equity exemption in NY State, you have 80K to play with and still keep your home. If you have stocks worth 50K, use that money to pay your mortgage down from 130K to 80K. Since your home is worth 100K, you now have 20K in home equity. Since once again, the NY State exemption is 50K in equity, YOU LOSE NOTHING IN FILING CHAPTER 7.
