Waynesboro jobless rate tops 10%
#1 Apr 9, 2009
I am from Waynesboro and I have yet to see an improvement made to this city in accordance to the residents living here. I drive through the baron streets with dilapidated housing and ruined businesses and wonder still how they manage to come up short with their one sided ideas on rebuilding the downtown district. To top it off they tax the residents ridiculously higher than their houses could be sold for and refuse any descending ideas that would have them recovering the money lost from such bad planning. They are almost creating an impoverished city (with big problems associated with poverty) and oppose any ideas for a night life or company (other than Wal-Mart) to have their doors open on Sunday or past 5:00pm on a weekday. Then they create more ways of beating up the residentís pocket books by supporting lame brained ideas like this. If you want to create happiness and ride us for cash, start adding some perks to living up here because itís starting to get kind of old. Hope that does not get confused with old fashioned like the ideas coming from the city planner. Please add a college or learning facility or even an entertainment type of business. That would pound in some needed revenue and start a little tourism on the way. Stop the madness with these horrible ideas!

I agree Jeremy. If there were some kind of entertainment or learning facility that would draw attention to the city that would boost revenue and create jobs.
What about some kind of venue for up and coming musicians? A big battle of the bands down town? There is nothing interesting here so people go elsewhere to spend their money, why not reighn in some of that money for Waynesboro? You already threw away alot of money for a tour director or whatever she is. What is there to tour of Waynesboro? Empty buildings? Or maybe the boarded up buildings on commerce? The new middle school with all its wasted space I guess. Come on, if you people in charge can't do better resign and put someone else in the position. Someone creative who has seen more than the four corners of Waynesboro!

I agree with you both. It seems that the more industrial & commercial revenue that the city loses, the more they pour on the rest of us to take up the slack. Its much easier than looking for ways to reduce spending. My family cannot afford to live here much longer. How do we cope? WE CUT OUR SPENDING. We have no other choice. I only hope we can hold out long enough to survive this housing market with the goal to ultimately sell & take our hard-earned money with us elsewhere.
