On September 8th, Barack Obama plans to have a national address to all school children in the country. He will then give "assignments" that are grade appropriate, helping him get feed back on how to better the education system in the US. I urge everyone in Mt Olive to write to Dr. Reynolds and the school board to NOT allow this broadcast to take place in our schools. This is not the role of the President of the United States and is nothing more than a propaganda ploy and intrusion in our school children's lives!

Every president is, and should be, a role model for our students. There has been a long tradition in the United States of presidents addressing schools and students. The current debate over what President Obama will speak about has been take out of context. Yes, there are suggested topics for students and they are about how each individual can better their lives through hard work and studying.
It was recently reported that over 50% of the freshmen entering public colleges and universities this fall will drop out and never complete their eduction. At this critical time in our economy, a motivational speech such as what all students can hear Tuesday is a wake-up call for America. Let's put political differences aside and support this much-need speech. |
