I am just curious. I have been seeing several very cheap homes for sale on Ebay in the Brookfield/Marcelline area. Can someone please tell me why this is happening or what has caused it? My husband and I do not live anywhere near the area, but are considering buying a home because the prices are so ridiculiously cheap. Any comments or explanations would be appreciated.

i am a resident of Brookfield, in fact i grew up here. i moved away for many years but came back...We are a small town with all the friendliness, and lack of crime you would expect in a small community,..the only down side that i can see is that the job market here is very weak, so therefore many people have to move to be closer to their jobs in surrounding towns, espcially with the higher gas prices,,,yes homes are very reasonable here and if you want a town where you are welcomed from the get go, you would not be disappointed to come join our community...

Thanks Julie, we called today and spoke with a very nice person from the Chamber of Commerce. She pretty much told us what you posted. We are considering driving up and having a look around your fair city.

Julie, you say homes are very reasoable here. What income brackett are you refering to? What is your dollar amount to be considered middle-class? What this town needs just as thousands of other towns in this country is jobs. It seems that what most people would like is to turn Brookfield into a retirement community.

Like Julie, I also grew up in Brookfield. But, When I moved back I found it was not the town I remembered. Brookfield DOES have alot of Drug problems along with the crime rate constantly rising. The Brookfield City Government severly needs to be updated. Brookfield DOES need jobs! And as far as it turning into a retirement community, I don't see that happening. I see Brookfield continuing to go down hill. There are many areas where improvements need to be made. One example is that the roads are in bad shape. The Police Chief has been in office for so long that he has grown complacent. That is why the Drug use & abuse has gotten so far out of control. There are alot of "Slum Areas" in town too. Brookfield needs to be cleaned from the ground up!
My suggestion to you is, talk to the neighbors of any property you are interested in buying prior to your purchase. So that you can get a better idea what you could be getting yourself into.
Good Luck!

Brookfield is a welfare and social security community for the most part. Very few jobs. I was there last week and drove around quite a bit. Alot of houses in disrepair or just plain falling down. Can anyone say what is going on with the old High School building?

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Pisces

Someone is extremely headstrong and defiant today, and there's every chance that you're the one fitting this description. The more others are trying to make you behave yourself or do what they want, the more determined you'll be to do the exact opposite. Well, it is a Full Moon, and a lunar eclipse in emotional Cancer, so you're excused! Show them that you're an individual in your own right without going completely overboard about it, because that will cause trouble. Then once you've got all that off your chest you can relax and look forward to a really Happy New Year!
