I would bet money on it that Villanueva will be there for yet another Sun News Photo op.

I predict that Zulu the Hero Dog will make a brief appearance at the bird count by making off with someones lunch.

That sure would make another hard hitting story!

Silver Hat, you want to come and do my job for me? Have a story idea you think we should be doing? Why don't you call me instead of making sarcastic comments anonymously on Topix.

You have Freedom of the Press and I have my Freedom of Speach.

Based on your defensive reply, it's apparant to me that you let your emotions interfere with your job. You need to grow thicker skin than this to be a good reporter Steele. Even more so in a small community like Grant County.

You asked if I had a story idea the paper should be doing. Please read every one of comments in the above link. This is what I and the community that you are a reporter in want you to write about.

Silver Hat, my emotions have never interfered with my job, not in Grant County and not in any of the the other states or at any of the other papers I have written for.

And if I sound defensive it's becauseif your desire is to improve the quality of the newspaper and have us cover stories you think are important, then you should contact us directly and make those suggestions - because, believe it or not, I'd actually be interested what you have to say, and your suggestions might actually make a difference. That's the way to effect change - by contacting the paper and making those suggestions directly, not by sitting behind a computer screen and posting anonymous sarcastic comments. But I certainly support your freedom of speech, no matter how you choose to use it. It's just that it has more impact when you use it to effect change rather than just complain.

Correction, want it not the correct word to use here.

We NEED you to write about this.

To paraphrase a quote from the above link, "there are bigger fish to fry in Grant County than Zulu the Lost Hero Dog and a tacky Villanueva photo op"

If is my belief that one voice alone in the dark cannot effect change.

I have seen it all to often in the past where opinions and ideas fall on deaf ears when discussed in private.

Think of this venue as your very own Silver City Sun News Town Hall Meeting. Instead of it being held this coming Thursday somewhere in town it's held behind your computer screen and behind everyone else's computer screen 24/7 right here on topix. So please do not ask us to call you with our opinions and ideas.

Only when an idea or a thought is openly discussed among those that are affected can we hope to effect change.

I also want to add that we do not need a reporter that writes mostly about flowers. We need a reporter that is willing to get her hands dirty by digging up the manure that surrounds our flowers.

And before anyone goes screaming how the Sparks story was great dirt digging. I would like to point out that that story was all based on facts found online. There was not a shred of dirt digging. Yes, I will admit that it was probably the most controversial story to have come out of your paper in years. With that in mind it tells us that you do have the skin to report on whats really going on in this town.

As a reporter you are not supposed to be loved and adored. You are supposed to be respected by your readers and feared by your public figures.

Good luck getting ANY reporter to cover that story. It would be great, but it will NEVER happen. Only way that story gets covered is on Topix or MAYBE a letter to the editor. No reporter in Silver City has the testicular fortitude (or estrogen levels if female) to cover something as controversial as the incompetence of law enforcement and the corruption of public officials in Silver City/Grant County. It's a journalistic third rail for reporters. Better to cover the pretty birdies and the glorious TV show about the wonderful activities in Silver City (for some white people).

Deputy276, one thing to consider here is that she is the only full time reporter Grant County has.(sorry Daily Press, you really don't count these days)

With that in mind I don't think she understands that she is in a position to help exact the change we need. Whether she likes the idea or not she could be the voice for the people of Grant County.

There are a lot of questions that we do not have answers to. And in order for these answers to come forth she needs to decide what is the right path for her to take.

Steele, become a part of our community by helping us create a better enviroment to raise our children in and for our future generations to prosper in. You know what the stories are. I know for a fact people have come to you with the answers.

Christine Steele, You are doing a great job reporting despite what some people think. I've gotten more information here than anywhere else on Zulu. Which is why I keep coming back here. People are concerned and want Zulu rescued. Please keep it coming with the updates.
Peace for all animals.
