Yup Kelly has been outed. It does not matter if the people voted for him or not --- he does not qualify to be Sheriff.

End of story.

Get over it.

He was qualified he just had to change a position to keep his name on the ballot. He chose not to so he could keep his retirement ( 6 months away) and insurance. Had absolutely nothing to do with him being ineligible. Why spend a tremendous amount of money fighting something that the loser of the election will keep on fighting and fighting and filing and filing until he gets his way like a two year old. I actually believe he just wanted his name on something big, didnt have to be that he won sheriff just something big. Is he so big feeling that he doesnt realize that the vast majority of Upshur County citizens think he is ridiculous and are truely ticked off about this? A person trying to make Mike lose everything hes worked for in order to be sheriff or give up the race. If you win an election you should be able to enjoy it, not have someone try to make your life miserable. Really the community suffers because of this. Sour grapes......borderline harrassment.

After reading the article in Inter-mountain it seems that Taylor still may not get what he wants. The Republican committee will be the ones to choose who goes on the ballot and if they have been listening to the people they better pick someone other than Taylor because if the Democratic committee puts a name on there you can bet we will have a sheriff and it won't be Taylor. I don't see how a person could want to be sheriff of a county that has shown how much he is not wanted.

Pure and Utter Hogwash. Backpeddling. Kelly didn't qualify and Taylor was right all along. So now you gotta make excuses because you don't wanna admit that you were wrong and eat crow.

Right or wrong Taylor will always be the person that 60 percent of the people did not want int office. But I guess he doesn't care as long as he gets the job. He didn't win and election to get the job, he slid in on a loophole.

Sheriff Taylor - in your dreams buddy! Everyone I've talked to has said they will vote for ANYONE BUT TAYLOR this fall if he's on the ballot BECAUSE of how he handled this to weasle his way into office.

The Hatch Act has been out there in previous elections, and no one has USED this often overlooked rule to force their way into office.

It aint' over till the fat lady sings, and hell, she ain't even hummin' yet. I've already heard of one VERY qualified person who will be running in the fall, and if that happens, he'll probably beat Taylor 3 to 1 instead of just 2 to 1!

How sad that Taylor wasn't content to use some outdated law to put pressure on the commissioners on this, he had the gall to want Kelley fired - after 19 1/2 years of service to our county? With only 6 months to retire & to avoid losing his health insurance and retirement, he wasn't forced off the ballot - he CHOSE to remove himself, and I don't blame him.

Let's see - Taylor moves here and works full-time for the college for 3 yrs., then uses some lame excuse that he was 'taking a class' to avoid registering his car in WV until he gets a ticket and decides to run for office. Then he loses by a landslide and uses some loophole "after he loses" to try to force his way into office. Now really - is that the type of man we want in public office representing our county, regardless of his resume?

If I was Taylor, I wouldn't be planning any big victory party just yet. Remember, there is an election in November, and if he didn't get the message in May, I bet he'll hear it loud and clear in November.

The citizens have voted.
The majority shows what they wanted. There are legal and constitutional considerations. what is best for upshur county. how will it affect the effectiveness of the sheriff's department.

Larry Fiddler for Sheriff!!!!! He's a good man who wants the best for Upshur County! Plus he's always been a resident to the best of my knowledge...and yes he has experience. I'm still not sure if Taylor has been a resident long enough to legally be the sheriff anyway...but either way, he doesn't need to get it, it would be a very bad thing for this county! Also...if he's so "qualified" why does he want this little position, unless there is something bigger in store for him? From the sounds of it he could get a much better job in many different fields of law enforcement...from all of his "experience"!!! I believe the majority will have there say in the end!!!

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all who helped overcome this obstacle.

Its nice to see the laws of our land upheld as is stated in our Republic.

Those who do not qualify need not run. I look forward to winning in November and am proud to serve as your Sheriff.

I will vote for Carson before I vote for Taylor ever again. I don't like what he did and now he lost my vote because I did vote for him the first round.

Don't worry, you are going to have someone to choose from. Just wait a few days and see who signs up to be on the ballot.

You're absolutely right katniss! From what I was told earlier today, Taylor's loss to Kelley will be nothing compared to the loss he'll see if the candidate files that I was told about. It is going to be interesting. Buckle up for the ride!
