Only those on welfare are eligible for that bonus during the holidays, It is so they can buy their children Christmas presents.

Also, If you are under a certain income level. The Parish house will give you a Turkey and some other things for your Christmas dinner. I'm not sure the income guidelines so you would have to check with them about your family's size etc.

And not sure if it is a turkey or not might be a ham or something (They gave turkeys out for thanksgiving) So might want to double check with them on that, I just assume it will be Turkey again.

they get WIC, stamps, cellphones, medical bills, clothing vouchers, HUD, bills paid with a "shut off notice", large tax returns for claiming all their kids, money per mile to go to appointments, so they intentionally make their appts 100 miles away and cheat the system. double food stamps anytime there is a storm. after all of that, you still owe them more, so they will show up at the parish house and collect their turkey and canned food bc by the end of the month they are depleted from going to sheetz and buying pop, subs, and chips. if they get $500 bonus, i would not be a bit surprised. why not? give it to them.

I couldn't have said it better myself! What about those of us who work 40+ hours a week and live payday to payday, no one helps us out! Maybe if I popped out a few kids that I cant afford or take care of the system will support me too!

While I am really hoping the $500 thing isn't true (I mean seriously, I buy 20-some people gifts and barely spend that much, but no welfare here have to earn a living so no extravagant gifts), I really agree that assistance is ridiculous. I know someone that is an alcoholic, has no job, lives rent-free with a family member, works under the table who gets a free cell phone and $200 a month in food stamps. I barely (in fact several months I don't) spend that much for groceries for my husband and I together. I eat beans and cornbread. He eats chips, pop, deli stuff, cookies, etc. Yet my taxes have to go to pay for his stuff and he eats better than me. Not to mention the whole having a free cell phone. I have to pay for mine and help pay for his. Seems fair right? And, don't get me started on what items he's bought at the General Store with his foodstamps!

I have zero problems helping someone who actually tries to do right and works and just can't make it, or someone who temporarily needs help because they were laid off or something. I sincerely believe everyone who recieves assistance and is able to work at all should be made to do community service in exchange for their assistance. We have lots of trash that needs picked up, parks that need maintained, buildings that need painted, alll kinds of stuff. They should have to help pull their weight. I know there are those who are sincerely in need of help, but I'm tired of pulling others weight so they can sit on their lazy tubs and drink beer. Grrrrrrr.

You're sh!ttin me?? They already get tons of neat little extras. How is this government gonna afford to send out $500 extra to each person on a welfare check. That is f*cked up. I work my ass off for nothing &the government still slaps my hand away.
I just heard about that too from other people too, so i apologize for calling u a dipshit

I know my husband won't get a Christmas bonus. I doubt I will either, though I used to. The place I work at decided to donate their bonuses to a charity instead of giving them to us. I mean why not give it to pay for Angel Tree kids with the Salvation Army? Its not like they don't give everything else to the welfare (and yes, if its true $500 for gifts, per kid, is welfare because it wouldn't go to the kids for 80% of the people who got it). Might as well just start making working people have their checks written out to those on assistance. Since over 25% of our money goes to taxes (state and federal combined), not including money put into SS or Medicare out of checks or sales and property taxes. Also, not counting the almost $600 a month for health insurance (which we would have anyway, and have had my entire adult life and childhood when my parents paid for it) that is now going to be mandatory.

It sickens me when my husband grosses over $3000 a payday and we only net about $1600 of it. I think we need to go back to rations, screw food stamps. We need to majorly limit Medicaid so it can only be used for yearly physicals, immunizations, true illnesses and emergencies. Those who use it for a cold, or pregnancy test (I was talking to a PA from the ER one day and they were telling me just how many people with Medical cards come in for pregnancy tests at the ER to avoid buying a $5 home test), splinter in their finger, etc. And, doctors that abuse someone having one by unnecessary tests run (I saw that so much when I used to work with MR/DD clients, Dr. Khan is awful about that).

Its just all sickening. Time to cut the apron strings for those who don't truly deserve help (people working for minimum wage, elderly that don't get enough SS to afford food, the truly disabled - and I don't mean people who are alcohol or drug addicts -, or someone who got laid off). I am so freaking sick and tired of welfare parasites sucking off the system.
