Does anyone have any idea what is going on with the boys basketball program? Like football, that program is in the tank too. Something needs to change, they've won like one game! It's actually sad to watch.

The high school doesn't have a chance of having a great team because we lose most of the good athletes before they get to the high school. High School teams are built on the foundation of a good youth sports program where they learn the necessary fundamentals. We have lost so many good coaches and talented athletes due to groups of negative parents who all think their kid is the star on the team. The good coaches at the youth level don't want to put up with the drama and gossiping parents so they bow out and let the vulchers have it. When you lose good coaches, you lose good kids. As parents, we need to support and respect the coaches who volunteer their time and money to work with our kids.

I totally agree, it's extremely sad to see the Middle school boys basketball team work so hard year round only to send the boys to a high school program of coaches that don't want to work hard. They would rather cut kids and yell at them for not working hard when they don't work hard themselves. The boys coaches at the middle school work year round with their boys on and off the court. That builds respect from the boys which in return the boys give them 150%. The buhs coaches are invisible, and not respected at all through the community and more importantly the kids don't want to play for them. The administration needs to change it or they need to step down. They have let our coaches take this at one time "elite" buhs basketball program go to the farthest level it can go. very sad for the boys. If these kids don't have good structure in their life at this age all we create are problems in the future in the community. I applaud the boys middle school basketball coaches for the hardwork and time they give their players year round. Maybe the administration and the buhs coaches should meet and observe the bums boys program and take notes. The kids will only play hard if they respect who they are playing for, and there is no respect at buhs from these kids. It has to change. We are now the laughing stalk of the whole state...Administration needs to step in and clean house and get some real coaches that want to work hard in that High school. Until then we will continue to create problems at that level. On the other hand, congrats to the coaches at bums forworking their butts off for the kids in this town. It shows and we support you 100 percent.

I agree, go watch a boys basketball game at the middle school and watch the level of intensity the coach and the players bring to the court. They are very fun to watch. Win or lose.

I would like to say that my son has played ball all four years at the high school. To say the coaches don't care and don't work hard is so false. I may not agree with everything that has happened in the last four years, but to say the that Coach Gurash or Coach Stockel or Coach Westfall or Bo don't care is just so wrong. I have seen the text messages that Coach sent to the boys and if you had seen them, then you would know just how much he cares about his boys. When we lose he feels the same pain, frustration, and heart break that our boys feel. The coaches love those kids and they take time away from their families do something they love....coach our boys. I for one am very thankful for all that they have done and I am very proud of the ball player my son has become because of the coaching staff we have. Coach Gurash has only coached for the past two years, he is young, talented, smart, he works hard with the boys every day and he does care so give him some time and let him learn from some of the mistakes and issues the team has had. Congratulations to the BUHS Boys Basketball team and to all the Coaches for working so hard, giving 100%, and for never giving up.

The boys have won 2 games this season. How depressing is that? I heard the head coach cut talented kids in order to focus on the younger guys. That's not always a bad idea but I would think it would be a no brainer to keep talent instead of trying to create it. And I agree, we are the big butt of jokes all around the state. Those poor kids is who I feel bad for.

Yes those parents probably do think that. However, in a school with 1100 kids you'd think they could find some kids and win some games. Poor coaching is not the boys' fault. That's the crying shame of all of this.

To the parent that says that the coaches work hard at the high school must be blind or just a seasonal parent. Anyone can can work hard during the season and during the "3 weeks" that every team in the state has an option to do...You must not have a clue of how elite programs are ran. Good Guys with no work ethic don't win. That's the problem in Buckhannon, all the parents are blind to the coaches that work hard year round and comfort the coaches that you only see during season. Coach gurash work ethic year round is as poor as his win/loss column. None of the younger kids know him,and if you really spoke to the players that play for him now, they will tell you that they don't want to play for him. He has built his own reputation in the two years he has been here for doing nothing and continuing to allow this b-u program fall further and further behind. He lives in East Fairmont, do you really think he wants to be in buckhannon? lol. If he did i'm sure his residence would of changed by now. And He has already lost 3-4 of the kids that he did end up keeping. 2 of them are to grades. Where is his academic program at??? A program is built on more that just wins and losses. He has failed at both.

To the parent that spoke about Coach Gurash and his work ethic. Please give 3 examples of an offseason program that coach gurash has implemented that does not deal with the three weeks when every team in the state is doing something..Better yet go ask him what he and his staff have planned for this year. And make sure you write it down because they will talk one thing and then won't do it. They are so clueless and so far behind that now our program has hit rock bottom. This guy doesn't even have a weight training program. lol after 2 years, are you kidding me? You can't work year round when you have to rush home to Fairmont everyday. Parents, wake up. Basketball is now 365 days out of the year, if you can't grab that concept then your way behind the curve. How can the Bums Boys Team figure that out and the Buhs staff and administration still be scratching their heads losing to single a schools?

Say what you want. I still give thanks to all the coaches for giving their time, working hard with the boys, and for making my son a better ball player. Don't like the program...change it...don't like the coaches apply for the job...want a training program...run one yourself. I am hoping with all the negative things that you have to say about the program that you will be at the next booster or board meeting with pen in hand to give some suggestions or insight on how you are going to help change the BUHS Boys Basketball Program. See you there.

Of all of these people complaining about our sports team, what are YOU doing to help improve it? Nothing! I bet half of you are the pissed off parents of kids who didn't make the team or who feel your kid is an all start and should be on varsity and isn't. And yes we have many kids in the school, do you realize that many are girls and many don't have interest in playing sports at all? Not to mention the kids who want to play but don't have parents to get them to and from games. No, we as a student body cannot do a year-round program. Many of the students playing now are bi or tri athletes. They play more than one sport. Ye coach has his hands tied as well. Coaches can only work with the team THREE weeks in June and that is it. And yes I do know this because I am a former athlete. I see the same people at booster meetings giving ideas how to make the program better. Are any of you there? Probably not. All of you just bitch and complain about our program. And this "talent" being cut, if your child was so talented, they would have made the team. Coach Gurash is a very caring coach. And the players that I have heard complain are the ones who think they deserve varsity playing time and don't get it. If you have so many great ideas, then go to a booster meeting. You people make me sick to my stomach. You have no idea what goes on. You have no clue what those coaches do for those boys and it's always the same people who help the program. And good for the BUMS team. Many of them probably only play basketball. If you want an all year round program then do something about it. Like I said coaches of any sport cannot work with athletes outside of the season. Get off your asses and off the computer and DO something about it.

Do you idiots understand that that it's 2013? In real programs you rarely have more than 5 kids in a whole school that play more than 2 sports. Sports are now "sport specific" in schools. How many kids at Morgantown and Bridgeport complain bc that have to work hard year round? lol, none because they are athletes that train year round no matter what the sport is. Our ignorant fans and parents at Buckhannon are clueless now how things work. Keep supporting the non-workers and you will keep digging the b-u whole even bigger that we as a community have let trashy parents take us too. Look at the buhs football boosters. They are all trashy parents that run their mouth thinking they know how to run a program. And they just ran a guy out of town that has more experience and knowledge about the game of football than all the idiots involved. Coach Struble worked his butt off year round and those boys respected him. The parents of the boosters at buhs football are a joke.

I really don't think any of this matters. I heard that Coach gurash was stepping down. He knows he has lost the kids respect. Two of his seniors have already gone to the Athletic director.

That's our problem,Real Athletes train year round. We at b-u think we are real athletes just because we play 2-3 sports. Guess what, our talent pool is so thin anyone can play multiple sports at b-u. Go to Morgantown where there are real athletes that work hard year round and see how many 3 sport players there are that successful..hardly any. we need to open our eyes and realize that b-u has went from good to horrible, and all the "have beens" have taken us there. all those quitting parents that bragg about playing sports when all they did was hold the water. all the good athletes left town. You all are ignorant.. If coach gurash doesn't understand that he has to work year round to win then hes just another idiot driving our short bus..

GURASH IS A JOKE. EVERYTHING HE HAS DONE OR HASN'T DONE SHOULD TELL YOU. NO OFFSEASON, NO FRESHMAN TEAM, CUTTING KIDS THAT DEFINITELY COULDN'T OF HURT HIS PROGRAM, KIDS NOW DON'T WANT TO PLAY FOR HIM OR ANY OF HIS STAFF, THE NUMBERS ARE DECLINING, LOSING KIDS TO GRADES,NO ONE GOES TO THE GAMES, HE HAS HELPED KILL THE PROGRAM COMPLETELY, ALL WITH THE HELP OF FORMER BUHS COACH AND THE TEAM OF COACHES HE HAD IN PLACE FROM BUMS TO BUHS. FORMULA FOR FAILURE. RANKINGS AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT DOESN'T LIE. IT'S WRITTEN ALL OVER TOWN. HE MAY BE A GREAT GUY, BUT HE NEEDS TO GO.
