A Buckhannon man remains in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail Tuesday after an incident at an Upshur County bar last Saturday.
Melvin Tyler, 23, of Buckhannon was arrested and charged with battery, and malicious or unlawful assault, according to the criminal complaint.
Tyler also has an address listed in Clinton, Md.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim threw a glass of water at Tyler, and in return Tyler is accused of taking a glass beer bottle and striking the victim in the left side of her head, cutting her deeply.
She was taken to St Joseph's Hospital where she received several stitches.
Tyler also spit on another woman who was assisting the victim, according to the criminal complaint.
Magistrate Juanita Adams set Tyler's bail at $85,000.
Tyler is requesting a motion to reduce his bond during a preliminary hearing scheduled for 2 p.m. on Feb. 14.
He faces up to five years in prison if convicted.
