Wittmann's Speedworld Lures Off-Road Racing Series Action

Speedworld Raceway Park near Wittmann, has landed two new races expected to draw thousands of fans from across Arizona, Southern California and Nevada, potentially spurring economic activity in neighboring Surprise. The races are typically an all-weekend affair, which mean Surprise businesses along Grand Avenue might see a jump in activity as attendees head to the track, located in an unincorporated area off Happy Valley Road in Wittmann. And all hotels recommended by the raceway's Web site are in Surprise. Speedworld is the only location in Arizona to host the series, which draws a cult like crowd. Speedworld owner Dan Matthews said he is hoping this year's deal will lead to contracts with off-road racing sponsors, making his venue the top destination for the sport in the state.
