Jarman is not a Vietnam Veteran. He is a Vietnam ERA Veteran. He served toward the end of war, but did NOT serve IN Vietnam. There is a huge difference.

Also.........the Memorial Day service will be at the Rockmart Veterans Memorial Park......NEXT TO Seaborn Jones Park.

If something is going to be reported, it needs to be reported PROPERLY and ACCURATELY!!!!

As long as he is a veteran. But, although that is a difference, it is not "a huge difference" as a draft dodger is different. But then telling us is useless. The entity that needs to be corrected is the cedartownstd.com . Also if he is misrepresenting his military service then that could be criminal in some parts.

Not misrepresenting. He was USMC and is an okay guy, just did not serve in Vietnam. Paper was contacted. They could care less about their mistake.

Still, the Stolen Valor Act could land him in jail IF he claims that he did serve in Vietnam. There is a reason that it is NOT called "Stolen Valor Act Unless You are a Okay Guy".

Maybe his intent was not to mislead but saying you served "during Vietnam" if you didn't actually see combat during that time sounds like the intent to deceive is there. Serving in Vietnam is a totally different case! I've never served personally but I'd most likely say I served during the 60's or something like that.

I know the man personally, and have known him for a long time. I'm telling you that he does not claim to have ever served in Vietnam. In fact, the anger he displays when people lie about their service is clear to anyone who brings up the subject. He is quite vocal about what he thinks should be done with such people! He is a staunch supporter of the Stolen Valor Act and would be the first to report someone who misrepresents them self. He's a loyal patriot.

No one is questioning his intent. The discussion is about what was stated in the paper. "Keynote speaker Dean Jarman, a Vietnam veteran,..."
That part is still above and still in the link. That's it, nothing more, nothing less.
As a veteran myself, I choose to not be in the public eye. I did join the legion but dropped out shortly later because it does not represent my interests. To choose to be in the public eye as a vet often leads one in certain directions and carries a certain responsibility.
