No, assault rifles and any other weapon
With a high capacity magazine should be banned.
I agree with The second ammendment, but it should be limited to shotguns, hunting rifles and handguns.
There is no need for the average citizen to have a AR15 with a 30 round clip. I have a 12 gauge shotgun and a couple handguns and they are all I will ever need for home protection. And for bird hunting.

This thing of the "high capacity" clips has never been an issue in violent crimes. Have you ever heard of a crazy killer unable to be stopped because he didn't have to reload?
The assault rifles and clips are a stepping stone to the eventual ban on all guns.
The killer in Connecticut could have done the exact same thing with a hunting rifle or a shotgun with the same tragic results.
The gun control advocates know this and that if they can get something passed it will be much easier the next time to move the bar even farther.
They will keep on chipping away until they achieve what they want.
so explain to why you need a AR15 with a 30 round clip? Because it is not good for anything other than killing.
The average citizen that keeps a weapon for home defense is better off with a shotgun. Shotguns have proven over the years they are the weapon of choice for close quarter defense.
So lets hear your spill on assault rifles.

The right to bare arms was never meant for hunting, home protection or target practice, it's to guard against an out of control government. assault weapon? you need a federal firearms license to have one of those, the AR style civilian firearms are not assault weapons, be careful what the MSM feed's to the public.

I do not have to have to justify a "need" to buy an AR15. It is my weapon of choice because of using one in the military.
I do not have to prove why I "need" one because the law already says I can own one (and I do) It is your burden to prove why I cannot own one. What reason do you have for taking away my AR15?
my reason is that you don't need one. Your not in the military anymore and your not in battle.
Your right ,you don't have to prove it to me, but I think in the next couple of years that the laws will change to my favor. Because the majority of Americans will agree with me on this issue.
AR15's have no place on the streets of this country. DEAL WITH IT GUNNY

Well slick, since 93% of all gun deaths are caused by handguns, I would think you need to get a little more educated about "assault rifles", which account for only 2-3% of all gun related deaths.

Actually you are wrong. The AR-15 frame has been shown to be an excellent home defense weapon.

The fact of the matter is this, there is legislation coming to tighten gun laws in this country. And one thing they are going after are semi-auto weapons, and the AR15 happens to be the main one, the majority of Americans will agree with me, and the majority of re-elected people that take my stand on these issues, so there is nothing you can do about it.and nothing you will ever say will change my mind.
DEAL WITH IT.

asking the government to step in is saying "please govern us because we are irresponsible".....now i know this world isn't fair, but laws are in place, enforce them without fail. again i quote an old chinese proverb,"laws control the lesser man, right conduct controls the greater".....i just happen to be greater.... l8tr

Exactly! This is what our "government" wants us to forget. Also, people talk about what we "need", which aggravated the hell outta me. Do you "need" a car that will go 120 mph? Should we ban those too? The list goes on and on. Only an idiot would LET the government start to take away their rights and tell them what they "need". They did a good job at that with the Native Americans, huh?

If you take the guns away from the law-abiding citizens, only criminals will have guns.

The wrong conversation is taking place, just as I feared. It's not guns that are the issue, it's the crazies who manage to get their hands on those guns. A gun is just a machine.

Tighter enforcement of the existing laws regarding who can own a gun is required, as well as education and *implementation* of the responsibility of owning a gun -- including safe containment and storage.

Most people don't contain and store their firearms properly. If Lanza's mother (the nut who shot up the school in CT) had had her guns in a GUN SAFE and had the key where her CRAZY-ASSED SON couldn't get to it, she'd still be alive and so would all those kids and teachers.

Johnny, you are an uneducated Moron....DEAL WITH IT!!

I have a couple of AR's, a Tactical Shotgun and several Pistols. I use my AR's to compete at several events and to go Wild Boar hunting in Texas a couple of times a year.

There isn't enough votes in the house or the senate to pass the kind of knee jerk reaction bill that these idiots want to get passed.

In your first comment you said I support the 2nd amendment and immediately do a 180% and say but. So tells us Johnny, Do you support the 2nd amendment or not, this is not a trick question but you should be called on your remarks and express what you really think.
