Dont build the 4 lane and get some factory jobs back.

We would love to bring some factory jobs back into Graham County, but the only problem is, actually getting people to WORK. Many will work long enough to get enough time built up to quit and sign up and draw money while they sit at home. Also, there are no businesses in the US that will build a factory here if there is no easy access into the county, which a 4-lane road would provide.
Most people that can work want to be paid way above their skill levels so companies will send their products to other countries where the work can be done much cheaper, then import it back into the US and make rather large profits.
If you have any ideas how to make companies take an interest in Graham County without easy access into the county, we're all ears.
Two lane all we need

A four lane is not going help at all. Look at Andrews and Bryson.

Yes...Look at Bryson City. They have 2 larger hotels, a train that brings in visitors, 4 lanes to give easy access to said train, and SEVERAL places to eat,and shops...LOTS of shops. Andrews...has IOI and several eateries there. They have places where people can go and enjoy music and again...they have easy access to it thanks to a 4 lane.
However, nothing is going to really help ANY county grow until NAFTA is repealed or at least re-worked to bring jobs BACK into the United States. As long as businesses can get the work done for nearly nothing and make a whopping profit, they're not going to bring the work back to the US unless it is going to be profitable for them to do so. It's that simple.

The 4 lane will destroy the county.

We used to have a train, several factories, gamerooms and a skating rink for the kids, three grocery stores all kinds of jobs. Nothing now but motorcycles buzzing up and down our roads. If you want a road that benefit us have Tennessee build us a good road across the mountain plenty of jobs and resturants down there.

I remember when Andrews had way more stuff going for them and that was before the 4 lane and bryson gets people because of the casino and hippies rafting down the river. Why do you want to destry our county with that awful 4lane?

It's not my wish to "destroy" our county. I love it the way it is, but the cold, hard facts are..."progress" is going to come whether we like it or not. We have "river hippies" that come to run down the Cheoah when it's open, and we get spill over from the casino. Those "River Hippie" dollars, and the biker's dollars all go towards helping our county stay afloat. All we have here to offer now is jobs in hospitality. If you don't work construction/right of way or have a CNA degree, you either work at Stanley Furniture or a job dealing with the public...ie: restaurant work, hotel work, gas station work...grocery store. If there's more access to the county from other places we will have more money coming in to keep the county functioning.
It's not an ideal situation by any stretch of the imagination, but in today's economy, we take what we can get.

Our kids have no hope if they stay in Graham County! If they don't land one of the very few good jobs around here they are doomed to be poor. I really hope that my kids leave and find somewhere else with better opportunities. People are kidding themselves if they think this town won't die out if something is done to make it grow. Stanleys will probably close one day and when that happens....WHAT THEN? When Stanleys is gone stores will follow. No money to spend + no new jobs/growth = stores closing. Our Government is broke and won't keep people up forever! I think they need to legalize alcohol...it is the only thing keeping Andrews alive. Our area has so much more to offer than Andrews. The four lane will not turn our town in to that. It's no comparison...Andrews is bare nature wise

Evil alcohol is for sure not the answer. All of America is dying out look at almost any town the manufacturing jobs are long gone. A 4 lane highway will take away from the natural allure of Graham County.

Timmy, you are one of the reasons why this town will DIE!! So what do you do for a living...if you have kids what do they do? Sooner or later Evil Alcohol will happen, even if you don't like it. Jesus made Wine for a wedding, his first miracle. I don't believe that Jesus ever did/made anything EVIL!

The Visitors come from the dragon (TN)...it's the only thing GC is known for! Very few come from the other way. Trust me I really know about this! Oh, and Timmy, I am a christian and will vote for alcohol in the county! Once again where do you work, Timmy? One thing that I noticed is that you are always on here so I'm thinking that welfare supports you and your family....you didn't answer the work question!!!!

A lazy man is an ungodly man, and Timmy you seem to fit that profile with all of your time spent on the internet.
