Hi,

I'm from San Diego, Ca and a company in Jacksonville, Fl offered me a job but I'm not sure what to do. I always wanted to move to a different State but don't know where. And now, Jacksonville offer me a job but I'm not sure if I will like it. I don't know much about it and I haven't been in there.

I'm just wondering if somebody can tell me something about Jacksonville...

Thank you and I appreciate it.

Hello Adana,
Moving from N.Y. to Jax was like a culture shock for me. It might be the same for you coming from San Diego. Much slower pace than any other place I had ever lived. I will say one thing do not move into or buy a Condo. Glorified apartments and mangement is usually to political for any kind of piece. I stayed in Jax for approximately 18 yrs and found I needed to remove myself from the redneck mentality. They say you get use to it but I never did.
Good Luck,

I lived there for about 2 years. Coming from the northeast it was a shock. It's got some great things going for it like Ponte Vedra, San Marco, lots of beach and there is always something new being built. It is a huge sprwaled out city just south of southern Georgia. For some reason South Georgia gets a bad rap and people would joke that Jacksonville was really part of southern GA. A good neighborhood to live in would be the Gate Parkway area and some parts of Southside.

Hope that helps

I've lived here for abour 15 years. Jacksonville is a nice city. It's up to you to choose which part of town is 'Good' to live at or not. Jacksonville is a growing and a diverse place.

Jacksonville is not a good place to live long term or short term....Jacksonville is not even a good place to visit.

I have to agree. I lived there for a few years in the early/mid 2000's and although I lived in a good area(Gate Parkway)I just never felt safe in JAX in general. At that time, gangs following people home and into their driveways and then robbing them once inside their garage was a big to do when I lived there. Not sure if that is still happening or not.

Some parts of St. John is alright. Louis Vuitton store nearby...luxury shopping areas usually saves the day bc of the cost of living in the area. Goodluck.

I prefered when I lived in New Jersey. Jacksonville is my least favorite place I've lived and I've lived in Jacksonville since I was 10(I'm 17). Too many gangs and thugs. It is just not a nice place. Clay County is alright but Duval is terrible.

Jacksonville is a great place to live. It is only ghetto toward downtown, but the further south you go the better it gets. People don't follow you to your driveway and rob you, give me a break. I thought I wanted to leave Jacksonville, and I found a job in the midwest. I never knew how good I had it until I left. Trying to find a way back as we speak. Great place to raise a family, and has everything you need and more...St John's Town Center has turned into the focal point of Jacksonville besides the beach.

Yes, because of economy, depending on which are of Jacksonville you live in, they do case your home, follow and watch where you live and either follow you into the garage or knock on the front door to distract you - I have been here 30 years - it has gotten better in some regards (St. Johns area and some Ponte Vedra/Roscoe) and Mandarin, South but the ignorance is bred through generations and the traffic rivals Miami and Atlanta.

People are the sweet gentile people of the South anymore. Too many gangs, crime - and death every day. Even in Margaret's Walk and Orange Park area, there are crimes all the time. Clay used to be a safer place to live -

I just moved to Jacksonville from the Atlanta area. The traffic in Jacksonville is nothing compared to Atlanta. Anyone who says it is has never driven in Atlanta. Jacksonville does seem to have a good bit of crime, and I don't feel as safe here as I did in Georgia. I live in a nice area, but I still feel almost as vulnerable here as if I lived in downtown Atlanta. Overall though I would say Jacksonville is on par with other cities of this size when it comes to crime.

I moved here to the St. Simons/Jekyll Island from Atlanta a few months ago. Have been considering a move in a year or two to Jacksonville, especially for the tax benefits. Before reading this blog I have heard too many negatives about Jacksonville so I assume there must be some truth to it. Unless I hear theres been great improvement there, I suppose I will stay parked in Georgia.

I have lived in Jacksonville for several years and I do not like it at all. There are some nice areas around, for instance the southside, San Marco and Riverside Arts districts are fairly pleasant. Otherwise, the gangs, crime, traffic and confusing layout of the city roads will make you want to leave as soon as you get here. The entire city always seems to have this lingering bad garbage smell, and Jacksonville must have the worst drivers of any city I've ever seen.
Jacksonville Beach is particularly known for having many bad accidents every day. There is always construction everywhere and poor road conditions are in abundance. Don't waste your time here, it is not representative of the Florida that you see on TV or in magazines.
