The village is going down the tubes. Its time for REAL solutions to the problems the village faces NOT disolving it and laying it on the town. Its bad enough there is a mass Exodus out of the Village of Malone but if the town has to carry them then buisnesses and residents of the town will probably leave in droves. Its not fair for the town to have to take on the responsibility for years of mismanagement and waste perpetrated by village politicians.

Dissolution is a practice that was a main plank of Governor's campaign. Let's remember that there are more people living in the
village than in the town. If you live in the village you pay town taxes and get no services. If you live in the town, you get village services and pay nothing. If you read the report you will see that any bills that the village has built up (retirement costs among them) will continue to be paid by the village residents and will not be passed on to the town.

The scariest part of this is that some people have not kept up with the dissolution plan and are making decisions based on factless comments made by people in power who do not understand the facts and are busy throwing out statements intended to scare people.

My advice - read the plan and get the facts and make your decision based on facts and not hype.

Just to mention a couple - when you come to the village, you travel on roads that are built and mantainted by the village taxpayers, if you are at price chopper and someone backs into your car, it is someone from the village police that shows up.

I live in the town and pay town taxes. I do not receive any services from the town.

This is the system that is in place with multiple levels of government. This is what we need to look at. Do we need these multiple levels of government? That is a decision for citizens to make. There are people who do not want this to change. Change is difficult.

Whether the village dissolves or not, the most important thing that will come from this study of dissolution is the conversation about what we want our village, town and community to look like.

You live in the town and receive no services? How do you get your car from your house to the village? Could it be on town maintained roads? What about in the winter? Who plows the town roads?

Well hup dee do- and when the people from the Village drive on the Town Roads that I paid to have built , maintained, they don't pay taxes for them, isn't that kind of even steven?

And for you folks who don't understand post #6, ask anyone who lives on County Rt 25 how much they have to pay for Village water,,cause you have to take it if your on the route.

yes, but guess what,if you pay town taxes you are still paying for road maint. in the village, you are also paying for water, and the hospital just like you do if you live in the village. The only thing they don't pay fully is for the police department, but a portion of their taxes do go to the local police anyway.

Water and sewer charges are user fees and not supported by property taxes. Village property tax supports the PD, DPW (streets, sidewalks, snow remaoval in the village only), 60% of the rec park, village administration, etc. There are no town roads in the village and the hospital does not receive any village or town taxpayer support.

the reason u pay more is the water belongs to the people in the village,if there ever was a water shortage the town would be shut off from water

You know, Malone is not the issue. Malone will still be here, regardless of however many layers of redundant bureaucracy and tax- grabbing we have going on here.

Dissolution is not about community. It's about efficiency.

I vote and I will be voting to dissolve the village in November.

Village landowners are town landowners. People seem to forget that.

Check post #7. I gave you a couple of areas were town residents receive village services with no charge. That's not intended to say village taxpayers are better than town taxpayers (actually we are town taxpayers also). We all live in Malone. Do we need a village level of government or is that outdated?

In many southern and western states, services are decided at the county level and there are no village and town governments. It works for them. Should we look into something like that?

Most voters in the village are not landowners. They pay village taxes through rent, and should the village not be dissolved I know for a fact that at least some rents are going up. This ridiculous support of duplicated administration must be paid for, somehow. Tag, you're it.
