Tell Me About Medina....

There is a chance that my family and I will be relocated to the Cleveland area due to a job transfer. I've been researching different suburbs and keep coming back to Medina. Since we already live in a big city (that has a lot of blight and crime), I'd like to settle someplace a little out of the way but isn't too far from my husband's job in Cleveland.
We have 2 small children, so the quality of the public school system is important to us. We will be renting until we get settled in.
So, can you give me some insight on Medina? How are the schools? Is there a sense of community? Are people accepting of new families? Is there crime? How is it as far as family-friendly activities go?(Parks, libraries, etc.) Is there a good economical growth in the town of Medina?(I ask because I will be reentering the workforce soon and would like to work close to home)

Well the Board of Education lied to voters, and while your renting, us homeowners are hounded to hand over money to a school system that has no financial accountability.
Rec center is great, if you can afford the price of entrance. Parks are great if you can find a parking spot in between baseball, lacross events.
People run stop signs and red lights all the time.
And jobs, not many around.

I rent at Medina Village apartments with my seven year old daughter and my fiancee. I have a large 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment with tiled floors, vaulted ceilings, granite counter tops and all new appliances for $770 a month (water sewer and trash included). We love it! Pet friendly, great people, great parking too!
Our apartment complex is right off Wadsworth Rd and the square in Medina. Traffic through the square and North Court St is a bit of a pain, but not too much of a headache. The square is absolutely adorable! Lots of quaint locally owned businesses and mom n'pop restaurants.
My daughter goes to Garfield elementary and I absolutely love it. Her teacher hugs every student before sending them off, one by one, and to each parent. I feel very at ease with my child going to that school.
Police frequent the area and rarely see more action than your typical traffic violations. They are friendly and eager to help.
The entire town is very well kept, very neat and clean. Great parks and doggy parks! Not too far from Hinckley lake, which is an absolutely joy! Theres an affordable family fun center down the road called Rinky Dink that has small go-carts, arcade games, mini golf, batting cages and other things. It's about 20 minutes from one of the best malls in the area, Strongsville Mall, as well as another good mall called Summit Mall.
It's close to everything, be it fast food or sit down dining, Walmart or Marcs. They have a farmers market every Saturday during the summer that is fantastic!
Overall, a lovely place to live! But it is about 45 minutes away from Cleveland and the traffic from Cleveland is a bit clustered. I would also HIGHLY recommend the Brunswick area as well as North Royalton.
North Royalton is a lot like Medina, but closer to Cleveland and very close to the highway. It has a great school district, very nice apartment living and a lot more houses for rent then Medina. My daughter went to Albion there for first grade and really loved it. It's 5 minutes down the road from Strongsville Mall and ALL kinds of shopping and food. Also a very well kept neighborhood but also very new, whereas Medina has a much more historic feel.
