The Nastiness of John Burke Treasurer Campaign

I've found it interesting to watch the ugliness of the Burke campaign. Auditor Kovack explains it in this letter below:
In case you havenít noticed, thereís an ugliness to the letters being generated by John Burkeís camp. Thereís a reason for this. He has a public record and itís a poor one.
When confronted with the fact that, on his watch, tax delinquencies are up over 72% and investment income is down over 80% they claim the economy is to blame. Yet 8 of 11 surrounding counties have done better than us.
When itís pointed out Burkeís office has more than twice as many employees as the Wayne County Treasurer, they say Wayne is a much smaller county. Not comparable. Yet the Medina County Auditorís office has one fewer employee than the Wayne County Auditor. Efficiency?
They say that Joan Heller is not qualified for the job Ė despite her acting as the countyís assistant Chief Fiscal Officer (CFO) for 17 years, overseeing far larger amounts of money than the treasurer. She has received 17 straight clean audits by the Auditor of State and her work has been recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association every year for excellence. One need only Google John Burke to see the contrast.
They say Joan's candidacy is a conspiracy to take over county government and weíll be at risk. They choose to ignore the fact that Mr. Burke was indicted on 6 felony counts of tax fraud for his business dealings and eventually pled guilty to 6 misdemeanors. They also choose to forget that he filed personal bankruptcy on over $600,000 worth of personal debts. The fact that he flew himself AND an employee to Hawaii at taxpayer expense for training and has spent over $76,000 on travel calls into question his judgment on the use of our tax dollars.
Both Mrs. Heller and Mr. Burke have 17 year public records. This election should be about those records. We need only look to Cuyahoga County to see what can occur when evidence easily available to voters is ignored. I hope Medina County does not do that. Please join me in voting for Joan Heller as our Medina County Treasurer November 6th.
Itís tremendously important for our county.

I can't believe Mr. Kovack has had to spend so much time informing the electorate, don't we have newspapers? Oh, they are in bed with the real shadowy political forces making a power grab here in Medina County?
