Hey Fannie, Richard, conservative, you know nothing about the ailing boat industry. Bayliner is in the process of consolidating all of their manufacturing operations to a massive facility that sea ray owns outside of knoxville tn. Many Bayiner operations in florida have closed as well. Can you blame Martin O'Malley for that? How about the ones in the midwest? I am sure you guys will find a way.

Maryland has a hostile business environment. Taxes, hyper-regulation and not being right to work state drives business out of the state and out of business. I am not surprised by this. Your stupid Governor and your stupid Sun lead the ant-business charge!

Bush is only part of the reason for our issues. People complain when the Federal Gov. interferes but first to be blamed when things get bad. Lets not blame the greedy CEO's making millions of dollars. The banks who over extended themselves. Or our local Gov. who squanders money like it grows on trees. I am sad to see one more company leave this great town.

You hit the nail on the head.

he Lake Forest, Ill.-based Brunswick said the plant closure is part of continuing plans to shrink its North American operations as it deals with the economic downturn and the impact on marine sales.

"This decision is no reflection upon the Cumberland work force or product, but the result of our need to develop a more efficient manufacturing footprint," Brunswick Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dustan E. McCoy said in a statement.

In June, the company said it will cut $300 million in costs in part by shutting more plants and reducing the number of models it produces.

"Obviously, this is in response to a very difficult marine market place," spokesman Dan Kubera said yesterday. "As with most consumer durables, it's been a market under pressure in the economy and boat sales have been adversely impacted by the economy."

During the past two years, the boat maker has closed 12 other North American plants,..."

What does this have to do with O'Malley or the price of tea in China? Nothing, nada, zip.

the lay off was NOT due to age but judged on PERFORMANCE!! If you were a lazy worker, you were laid off. If you are going to bash Lunds at least tell the truth!

Maureen, You are a liar or you are one of Lunds robots. If you truly believe that Lund relieved most of their workers based on performance then you are also a fool. Most people know big business politics but there is usually nothing that can be done about it. So Maureen, if you are an employee at Lund and still work there, do not try and stroke your ego at the expense of others!

I have you beat with the name Golund LOL. There are a lot of ex workers and I use the word workers lightly. That think their is no way that they should be out of a job. They think they know it all. I do not and have not worked there but have seen the egos that go with being at a place for a long time. "I have worked here 20 years and deserve better!" That is what they would say.
Then get another job is what I would say to them.
I also hear them say that-----Oh being laid off doesn't bother me! Best thing that ever happened!
Then shut the fuck up and stay off of this forum and take this time to job search! LMAO

I don't work there and never would for that matter but that is totally beside the point. The majority of employees wanted the evaluations due to the fact that if they were rated higher, they would get a pay raise. There were lots of days that people were asked to volunteer overtime, the majority of the time the 'elders' in the plant refused which in turn changed the voluntary to mandatory for all. The levels 1's which were the lowest on the scale had time to up their evaluation. After a 6 month period if the evaluation did not go up then they were part of the ones to be laid off. Why would ANY company hang on to the lazy employees who do not want to do the work or earn their income? For the majority of people laid off, it was mostly self inflicted! Grow up people, you are not children and you are not in preschool any more. If you can't or won't do the work that is asked why on earth should any company keep you??..... Because you have been there for a certain length of time?? Personally I can not think of ANY company that would want to hold on to a employee that is lazy no matter what their age is.

Instead of getting mad because you lost your job, maybe you need to sit back and truly think WHY you were laid off?? Yes, the main part was due to the economy, I will not deny that but you can not make me believe that you didn't see that coming when so many other companies are letting thousands of employees go.

You can sit there and rant and rave and tell what ever stories make you feel better because you lost your job but the truth always eventually comes out and there are always self pitying people out there that can't understand why things happen to them even though the majority of the time it is self inflicted. Why should someone who doesn't want to work hard to improve a company get a promotion when there is someone who is working their behind off for the company who deserves it more. If you were the owner of that company who would YOU want to keep??

I truly feel sorry for any and all employees that lost their jobs especially in the winter when expenses are so much higher. My prayers are with you all!

Well, maybe you do not consider that you lied since you do not work there but guess what. The six month period that you talked about that Lund gave to their employees to improve their evaluation score never happened because they started their mass lay offs before the six months were up. Do you think that was a coincidence? Also, for you not to have worked there, you seem to act as though you know a lot about the place. I would say that if you worked there, you would be more creditable with your comments. Instead of making comments based on RUMORS. And by the way, why would you add that "you never would work there for that matter"?
No matter what you say, I know a few hard workers that lost their job at Lund based on a phony evaluation score. You see, you could be one that worked you ass off but you best keep your negative opinions about the way somethings were ran to yourself. The way they rid themselves of these kind was by adding a couple of different issues to the evaluation that they were never even told about until evaluation day. This would help lower their score. Another key point to the evaluation was that there was never ever anything that graded the employee on work performance or quality of work. That is a fact, not a RUMOR.
Do YOU work there?? Seems like a aweful long drive for you to go to work seeing how Darfur is southern MN. You seem to pretend to know a lot of what goes on for someone that doesn't work or live anywhere close to New York Mills. Are you getting YOUR information from someone who was laid off? As for me not working there, I do a specialty line of work.... that is why I would never work there. As for knowing what goes on, my husband and 4 other friends still work there. That is how I know what is going on. You also forgot to mention that different sections of Lunds were graded differently than others. There were also times though when the people from finishing were asked to go work out on the line instead of going home and most refused. They would have rather been sent home with no pay than work in a different area and still make money. There is a lot more to what all is going on that is not being said and different work stations at Lunds have different ideas of what was going on. Of course the ones that were laid off are going to be defensive, but it still boils down to politics and what the evaluations were.

I DO feel sorry for the ones that were let go, I honestly feel terrible for what they are going through. Thank goodness for Tuffys and the other plants in Perham that offered so many of the ones laid off from Lunds jobs in their facilities. I also believe that Lunds will eventually shut its doors. There are way more important things in life for people to worry about that buying a new boat.
