that's right! we shouldn't blame the kid but the parents for not doing their jobs in raising a twelve year old to not have anymore sense than to break into someones home and scare them to a point where they feel the need to defend themselves and their property that "they"work hard to have and keep safe! final answer be better parents, don't be lazy or your kid might pay for your lack of interest in them.

According to this, the homeowner "should have just asked him some questions and let him leave"

Maybe the parent did her job, children will still be children. Maybe the homeowner should have or could have asked questions, that's an option I perhaps would of or would not have exercised. The fact of the matter is... the child is gone, the homeowner is affected, and a mother is without a child. All for what???
We want to blame someone, perhaps that's the human in us. Maybe we should simply acknowledge the facts of what we do know, mourn, and then look for ways we can teach all of our children (after all, it still "takes a village") about what could possibly happen if they decided to do something like this without thinking first...
some of the greatest lessons can be learned from even the saddest tragedies.

Racism is a serious problem in America, from the surface it appears to be a racial tragedy, After taking a step back, regardless of the color, he should have never been in the house without an invite. Now, I look at the law, the kid was shot in the back running away from the home and died across the street. 12 years old, was it racism, probably, does it matter, no...... The law clearly states that the shooter was wrong by shooting this little boy in the back. The reason why he is not in jail is because his family is the law in Brunswick, they would allow any one of us to be arrested, but would break the law for they're own...... This one is going to go national real quick, justice still must be served.

Amazing. First, the boy was shot in the stomach, NOT the back as his family first reported. Second, the homeowner was Afican American. So you are suggesting he hated black folks? And I agree, racism IS a serious problem in America...racism of the reverse kind.

This "little boy" (pushing thirteen) chose to break into a home with his teen thug buddies. The castle doctrine clearly states that a person has a right to defend himself in his own home. And THAT is why the man is not in jail. Not your poor attempt at race-baiting reason.

Sad indeed! They should tell this little boys story in elementary school. Use his life as an example of what we DON"T want are youngsters doing and the consequences there of.

So sad. For the home owner and the the boys family.

First of all here is alot of ppl talking they jaws & posting crap they have no idea or clue. If you don't know this chid or his family, then keep your comments to yourself. Deveron was a 12 year old child who just turn 12 that March. It has been alomst a year, two days to be exact. His mother is a very loving kind woman and she loves her children. She suffers till this day over her sons lost. You ppl was not around in his life to see him or his upbringing. I do know these ppl and have close relationship. Deveron was a very sweet child he would make you smile and he go out his way to make others happy. The homeowner was a white guy and his wife as well. I know this to a fact as I sat in court behind him and he could of choose a better way of handling the tradegy. He could of told the boy to get out and he could of taken the boy to his mom and told her what just had happen.

you should remove your post you have no idea what your talking about. i know for a fact this guy was white, what he did was wrong and could of been handle different. he could of let the kid leave as he was trying to do and this homeowner chased him. this little child was 12 and had just turn 12 two months prior to his death. he was a very good child, children will be children and they will do things you or any adult see wrong. but you cant blame his mother for what happen. i know her and she loves her children and she is still suffering over what happen. this child was just as good as any other child, dont use race or anything to judge him. he was a person and that is what matters. speak facts not jibber you want to post cause you want be on a news site

Anyone who blames the homeowner is OUT OF THIER MIND!!! The homeowner had every right to defend his home. I would have done the same thing. Devron had no right being in his house. He is the one who broke the law. It is sad that he had to die because of it but he brought it on himself.
