Some construction worker wrote: I'm so terribly sorry that you feel like the $700 fine was too much for your budget. The story you AREN'T telling is why it was $700. You see, I happen to work out there in the midst of all that traffic that goes by without regard to my safety. YOU WERE IN A VERY, VERY CLEARLY MARKED CONSTRUCTION ZONE! And, even by your own claim, not really paying much attention. The 60mph speed limit is posted with an orange "Constuction Area" reflector constantly along both the outside shoulder of the road and the median. This is referred to as "double indicating". It means you can't say you didn't know. If you were in Darien, GA doing 70mph, you had been speeding by workers for over 10 miles before you got pulled over. So now you're probably going to get all self-righteous and say how there weren't workers for over a mile away from you (which was the only comment about construction you ever made). What if it had been one lone surveyor who had been walking maybe a half-mile away from their vehicle? Would you have seen him/her? Apparently not. So let me ask you a question. How would you feel if it were your child out here working to make a living and someone else was saying the same? The amount of money you make doesn't make me feel worse for you. I know several people out here working on the roads who don't make any more than that. I see so many horrible traffic collisions that could have easily been avoided if people would just slow down and pay attention. If nothing else for the caution of their own lives. I don't see your point at all and I applaud the police, sheriff's department and judicial system of McIntosh County for making sure you WON'T do it again. Life is hard for all of us. Not just you. This world would be a much better place if people would quit being "poor pitiful me" and look out for their fellow man a little bit more. But "some construction worker" on the side of the interstate may be what you fail to notice next time. And if that ever happens, this may be the only chance I ever get to tell you to let my wife and kids know that you just didn't notice me. Let's see how that goes for you... Of coarse you would say that. That shitty Barney Five Mayberry cops probably pay you guys extra on the side too by helping track down out of staters . Georgia is the skid mark on the underwear of the united states. How many floridians do y'all bust a day. Also I'm sure it has nothing to do with the chief of police and a judge being father and son. Georgia sucks and your redneck uneducated cops suck too.

Johnny of Pensacola Florida, You are right. In Georgia all law enforcement officers go to secret training to learn how to track down out of staters. It's a huge statewide conspiracy to raise our revenue and harass you. Why???? Because you are a moron and it's fun to screw with morons!!!!

Does anyone have a suggestion for a reputable lawyer to fight a speeding ticket in Darien, GA.?

Just pay the fine and move on. If you read this thread you will find it is futile to fight. There is nothing short of a Dateline NBC investigation that will ever shed light on the BS that Darien and McIntosh Cty get away with. JMHO

I was ticketed for going 91 on I-95 south by a Darien police officer back in November. I was arraigned and went to court this morning. I just handed my ticket to one of the private attorneys hanging out in the court room and got my speed dropped from 91 to 74. I still had to pay the original $358 ticket + $50 court fee and $100 to the lawyer, but it saved me a ton of time, points (although I'm a first time offender so it's not really a problem), and most importantly I won't be charged as a Super Speeder. I was in and out in less than an hour and was gone before the judge even got to the court room.

Sarah wrote: Does anyone have a suggestion for a reputable lawyer to fight a speeding ticket in Darien, GA.? When I showed up for arraignment, there were a few private attorneys hanging out up front lowering peoples' ticket speeds. They charge about $100, but really save you from more points and the Super Speeder fine. I got my speed lowered from 91 to 74.

I am sure there are some small towns with reputable police departments that are not full of lying, cheating, lusting, drinking drama kings. Darien, GA just isn't one of them!

McIntosh County is not as bad as it use to be, but be careful, be very careful, traveling through it.

They are nothing but money-grubbing greedy twits who lie and steal. The collective IQ of their police force must be about 7. That fat, ugly cop (Bridget Douglas) is a lying bitch who is just an angry woman because she is fat, stupid, ugly and a moron. You can't have a discussion with these people because they are morons and so hyped up on the fact that they have a badge. Anymore, most police are morons, poorly educated, and we put them in charge of the laws. What a huge mistake. They are not heroes, they are buckets of crap. If God gave the world and enema, he would stick the nozzle right in Darien, GA.

I returned through that hell-hole roughly two weeks ago and didn't give those turds a reason to ticket me. I drove at 65 mph all through that stretch of 95. I figure if they are going to lie and bump up an individuals speeds just so they can knock you for an extra $200 because of their super speeder law, I wasn't going to give them any chance to mess with me. I counted the number of cop cars lying in wait and it was a total of 13 in that stretch of 95. I had to laugh, at one point, there were 5 cars lined up behind an overpass abuttment lying in wait to nab people. I paid for a lawyer and of course he was able to knock it down to 4 miles over the speed limit. Total cost $600 but now no points and no reporting. It was admitted to me that this is nothing but a money grab by them. The lawyer used to be a judge and left the bench to go back into private practice because it is so lucrative. He's making 100k per month just representing speeders. Everyone in that area that is participating in that scam or be rewarded by that scam, I hope you get horrible anal bleeding and die a miserable death. And once you are all dead, I hope that all of you rot in hell for eternity.

Got a ticket on 95, mile marker "46" according to the ticket and got pulled over by mile marker "42"
I was actively setting my cruise control when I got pulled over to 75, which I'll openly say is over the posted speed of 70. The ticket was for 90 in a 70, and the closest I got to 90 was when I pulled on to I-95 just so I could make it on to the highway, and I didn't even touch 90. Possibly 83. When I asked the "Sgt" w/e his name was when he radared me going 90, he said "I'm not sure, but that doesn't matter. Besides you illegally passed a car on the right hand side, and you have an illegal window tint"
The officer didn't even ask me for my registration, or my insurance card.-_- Speed trap anyone?

This is definitely a speed trap and now u receive a separate 200fine on top of your regular speeding fine. I was clocked supposedly at 15 miles over, o.k. maybe.... I can't contest anything they don't show u their equipment. And if u take time off of work from your state to appear is it worth your time?$380 it cost me, not to mention points insurance premiums that will increase. I had zero points before this, and when you get off the exit and see how economically depressed this area is you know why they are stopping everyone with out of state tags. They need your money. This is in my opinion is a legalized shake down. Shouldn't they post signs that state u will receive the 2nd $200 fine from the state if you are caught speeding in Georgia and is this even legal? Who knows wish I had the money to challenge their legislature because this seems unconstitutional and double jeopardy to me!!!
