Yikes! Driving down from to NY to Orlando this weekend and I'm a bit concerned.(I know how much the southern cops love to nab a NY license plate!)This exact thing happened to us last year while driving down - my husband got a speeding ticket at 3am for going 70 in a 60. Is this area still under construction? I hope not!!

I'm sure the cops started lying.... Yeah, if a violation occurrs in a jurisdiction a traffic stop may be made in another jurisdiction. Get a law degree and come back to court. As far as the insurance?? Are you sure it wasn't suspended. I remember a case in court not long ago where a guy stole the officers wallet while he was arresting the other for DUI, yeah, real reputable guys there. It's a shame people spread garbage when they have no clue what they're talking about. Did your boyfriend pay the ticket? I'm sure justice will prevail. I see alot of cars stopped on I 95 but what any of you fail to report is that these guys day in a day out arrest alot of local and out of state fugitives. Listen to your scanner, you may learn something.

My husband was driving down to Florida Sunday the 14th of August and got pulled over for doing 88 in a 70. He had his cruise control on and had even sent me a picture of his speedometer to show me he was being good about his speed. A lady cop pulled him over (Bridget Douglas) and told him he was doing 88. He started to argue with her because his cruise control was on. As soon as he started to disagree with her, she immediately called for backup, along with a K9 unit, since his car was packed for the move. They proceeded to rip up his car, damaged it in the process, found no drugs, then took him in handcuffs to the police station. They never read him his Miranda rights, took his picture or fingerprinted. But they did drive him to an ATM and make him take out $180 for bail. He didn't get to talk to a bail bondsman, but the receipt has a bail bondsman's name on it. Then they called the towtruck driver and he also took him to the same ATM and made him take out another $175 to get his car. When we started calling lawyers, I finally got one who dared to practice in McIntosh County, and he told me that if we pay him $765 he will get the speeding ticket dropped down to 74 and take it off his record so it doesn't get reported to other states. Otherwise he said they would hit him with a "super-speeder" ticket and he would lose his license. Are there any lawyers up there who will stand up to these people and what they are doing? We want the entire thing dropped and to be reimbursed for the damage to the car, as well as the bail money.

The speed limit all along the interstate within Darien city limits is 70mph. This cannot be a speed trap. You cant be stopped by police unless you are going 10 over the limit. So if you stay within that limit you will not be stopped. Please explain to me how that is a speed trap.

On the contrary. You can be stopped if you are going even 1 mile over the speed limit, as we were told by our lawyer. My husband was doing 76 in a 70, as evidenced by cruise control. He had his cruise control checked and it is working correctly, so he was definitely doing 76. I spoke to 2 lawyers there and they both told me the exact same thing - even 1 mile over the limit will get you pulled over if you have out of state tags.

Here's how it's a speed trap. You get pulled over and TOLD what your speed was by the officer, not what your actual speed was. AT THAT POINT YOUR SCREWED. You have no recourse but to bend over and take it because the court will not listen to you. Pay your fine and next case please. The best thing to happen to Darien was the orange barrels. I bet revenue is way down since they took them away. Construciton zone fines were money in the bank for this little POS town.

Who regulates this kind of 1867 kangaroo B.S. crass thevery?
Where is Atlanta? Who is paid or scared to not touch this blazing theft and unjust form of guilty no matter what(unless you want to add $350. to use one of their trusty scrub esquires)still no reduction in fine, EVER or you can talk to the solicitor and pay double for challenging the judge.

Who regulates this kangaroo 1867 court?
Where is Atlanta and why is this such a money laundering theft pool in the ga court system?
Cops taking people to ATM'S? Towtruck driver getting cash @ATM?
Do they kill you if you don't know your pin?
Really? Are these people really allowed to legally
not allow you to prove your case/innocence.
You can hire one of their scrub corrupt esquires for a fee starting @$350. with no fine reduction but if you are lucky maybe a 1 point reduction.
Don't challenge just pay what ever we say or you are really screwed (even more).
Why is this still going on? Anyone?

Call the GA state rep or someone who does not use billybobs huntin camp in exchange for allowing such corruption and violations of U.S. tax paying citizens.
Not sure if this G.O.B MOB can be regulated and put to the current legal practices of these united states as they have been getting away with this for quite some time with no question from a higher power, at all, ever.

I too was on I-95 at marker 46 southbound. Cruise was at 78, all traffic going the same speed. I have tracked my speedometer with roadside units -my reading is accurate. I had slowed slightly as a green Dodge Caravan was going 76 in the fastlane and another car going 78 was in the middle. I switched lanes and saw the officer with his laser.
He went behind the Caravan and saw it was a Georgia vehicle. My Florida license plate brought him behind me. He told me that the Caravan was doing 81 and that I was doing 86. I told him I was doing 78 but no mercy, no discussion, just $285.00. I would have agreed to 78, but they want the extra "over and above" ticket money. Next time I'm going posted speeds there and 75 other places.

If you pay one of their lawyers $500, you can get the ticket reduced to 74, which will keep it from showing up on your Florida insurance. It takes a while, though, because the Darien police only send over the ticket records once a month, last week of the month. They're all in a big sack and they are sorted by hand. We finally got ours taken care of in October, just one day before our court date.

I had a horrible experience with these guys... OK.. I was speeding. I am a big girl, I can own when I did something wrong. I had a long drive ahead of me. So as I'm sitting there waiting for this bonehead to write me the ticket so I can be on my merry way... Nice Mr. badge number 109 decided he wanted to take it a level further and accuse me of trafficking. making me get out of the car..(I am from New Jersey) so after 10 minutes of my time wasted on the side of the road, i let him search my vehicle. i figured it was that, or waste even more of my time waiting for a warrant (Is this really necessary? for driving fast). Not only did he not find anything, but he stole my registration and insurance card!!! claims it flew off the hood, and then hops his lard ass back into his tard cart and drives off.. leaving me on the side of the road. I had to drive 900 miles without my documents, take a day off of work to replace them, and top of all that, he wrote me the ticket anyway. I hope he wraps that piece of shit vehicle around a telephone pole and breaks that fat turkey neck of his.

OMG! They did that to my husband too! His tags were also from New Jersey! They even called for a K9 team to come sniff his car. Then they said the dog signaled on something, so they took everything out of his car (he was moving here to Florida). Found nothing, and no charges on that, but he was handcuffed.

I'd be willing to chip in for a billboard on 95 to warn drivers of this shit hole town. What would they do if their little honey hole (I-95) dried up ? Likely head to their sister's trailer and make more more MaCintosh morons.

I didn't even get to that point. I knew he was just going to waste my time and that I had nothing.... but it shouldn't have to be like that... I encourage NOBODY to visit this town or spend any money in it.. if your gas tank is running on Empty.......go to the next town and buy gas. don't give these guys ANYTHING...and watch this little dirt water town wash away. I will never visit Georgia - and I have a friend who lives there... I will never stop at a hotel, never eat there, I won't give them a dime of my money....Georgia's a big state too... all because of how I was treated in one little useless dirt water town.

Hey, here's a hint: Don't speed even one mile over.
Let it be some other driver who gets tagged doing 76-85 going through there.

This isn't just McIntosh Co. I moved here to get away from Glynn Co. Just as bad, if not worse.
They could have built a jail on county owned property by now for the money spent on architects and private property condemnations and lawsuits!

Look around. It's everywhere. The tighter the budgets, the more they are going to turning over every pebble looking for a way to bridge shortfalls.

Only government tries to spend their way out of debt.

Meanwhile the worst thing that could happen if you drive the 70 or under is you'll save gas, ticket,
and enjoy the scenery.

Thanks for the tip Gambler but I think anybody that has been butt effed in this crap hole will NEVER give then another chance. That's why Darian and McIntosh need to be exposed for the bull shit your police department does everyday on I-95. I agree with "Disgusted with Darien" above. The only way to get back at the most unfriendly city on I-95 is to drive straight through, doing the speed limit. BTW - give the outlet stores the finger on the way by.
