Over the cliff we are going come january. Result? Massive spending cuts to the mlitary and justice department which is long overdue. The wealthy will be made to pay up, after all Bush sheltered his chosen ones for 10 years now they will HAVE to pay up. Middle income workers will have to pay a little more but over 50% of them suported their Circus Freak Bush and his deceitful war so PAY UP! Even entitlements will be cut. So what is everybody worrying about? The national debt will be cut in half automtically by this time next year. Everybody sacrifices.
Let's not "fall" over the cliff - let's jump.

Higher taxes on millionaires and billionaires, War Department budget cuts, sounds great to me.

Stop splitting the rhetoric based on party, and make it issue based.
If you want less to rely on the government, then try supporting innovation, and entrepreneurism in policy.
The small time entrepreneur, cannot compete with large corporations.
Example- a new business, begins a business in a tourist area. Pays 5000 a month rent, does 20,000-40,000 a month in sales. Big store, won't say name, opens on the street. Rent is now 20,000 a month. Do you think the small store can compete?
All the small stores leave, leaving the big corporations, to import from China. How many could open a store, as a new store, and pay 20,000 a month rent?

Welcome to the world of capitalism, where the big and rich eat the small with the help of our government. They get special tax breaks, special corporate tax loopholes and even get local property taxes waved. If you really want to get screwed by the government try a tourist related business in this area, your MAIN competion is the state. With state owned and taxpayer supported campgrounds, cabin rentals and the biggest foe Brasstown Valley Resort. Supported by the state, in a so called state park, pays very little tax to the county and even uses free prison labor, nobody can compete with that.

Good points.

Any economist will tell you that unregulated capitalism eventually has to lead to monopolies and fascism - that's just the way it is - for better or worse.

What's interesting is that nobody actually believes in capitalism - they say they do- but they don't.

If you doubt this ask your doctor if he or she would mind 250,000 highly qualified foreign doctors beginning to practice in the USA; ask your local banker if anyone should be allowed to start a bank; ask any builder if anyone who can identify a hammer should be allowed to bid on government projects.

They all scream about government limitations and cost, but love having their incomes subsidized by government limitations and regulations.

But it's Friday and close to Happy New Year.

It is not about gun control, any more than it was about alcohol control during prohibition.

IT IS ABOUT REVENUE!

Look for taxes/fees to become law for firearm and ammunition purchases, as well as an annual registration. It will be on a sliding scale, based on the capabilities of the firearm, and the amount of ammunition purchased. There will be a large tax/fee appliedat the point of sale, then yearly registration taxes/fees.

The whole point of the fiscal cliff is when the fiscal cliff is cleared and we jump over it, we are getting rid of all the accounting gimmicks, the temporary stings of things that allow Congress to pretend it's being fiscally responsible when it's not.

A lot of taxes will go up but taxes will go up on everybody, not injure the guy around the tree that's paying for everything but everyone will have to pay. And then folks will realize the government we are voting for costs us money too.

Trillion dollars deficits every year as far as the eye can see, that's a tax on our kids, our grandchildren, on people who have saved their whole lives and done the responsible things.

The liberals feel like they can have all this spending but not pay for it themselves. So I think going over the fiscal cliff, at least, we are all sharing in the responsibility of paying for the big government we seem to want.

You had me until the bull crap about liberal spending. Liberals want to increase taxes and reduce spending, conseratives just want to cut services to people who have nothing. So-called liberal spending you hate is spending on social services, many that are required, some that are not. Money can definitely be saved in that area, cutting Social Security payments to people who donít need them is one way to save. Increased taxes on people and corporations who now avoid paying a fair portion of tax is another way.

But the FACT is most of our current problems come from unfunded, wasteful, senseless wars we didnít have the will to win, just wanted to make changes in their governments. Look where the deficit was when Bush took office, almost none, then look at what Bush left. It has increased substantially under Obama, a lot of that is a continuation of the Bush wars and interest on the debt, itís as plain as the nose on your face.

First of all, please define a "fair share", in other words, how much is enough? Fair means an increase to everyone. A lot of the debt, and deficit, was not for the wars, and is on the increase. It all needs to stop. Liberals have no intention of decreasing spending, their game plan is to raise taxes now, cut spending later. The problem is that "later" never comes. This administration cannot even get a budget past the Senate (same part majority), let alone obtain House approval. Obama said he was going to cut the deficit in one half in three years, and that has not happened. When the lower and middle class Obama electorate, see how much Obamacare will cost them, along with the fiscal cliff, maybe then some real change will happen, but until then??? Bring on the cliff.

Democrats could have stopped it (fiscal irresponsibility) when they were in control from 2006 through 2010, but they added to the problem at record rate, meaning they approved it. WHY?

Democrats were also a part of the congress that approved the wars of both Bush presidents, meaning they believed the "false intelligence" to be a clear and present reality. WHY?
