Your last sentence proves out incredibly out of touch and socialist you are. You also get the award for telling the biggest LIE on Topix today. Congrats.
Caring about Ted Nugent using nazi language about The President of the United States of America while at a Republican rally makes me a socialist? You're going to have to explain that logic to me.

However- it's also to make a point. This is a changing world, and it is a much more dangerous world than it's ever been before from many viewpoints. It's an increasingly complicated and technological world, and it's a BIG world with a lot going on and a lot of bad guys and threats coming from millions and millions of directions.

Along with all of this technology the world has developed - we have to accept that we need to guard against technologically-gifted bad guys. It means the rules change. You really can't have any reasonable expectations of digital-privacy AND protection from bad guys who use digital means to organize and achieve their goals. You can't have both. Just a reality.

As far as the press goes - there is a constitutional clause in place and a lot of eyes watching that freedom. Nothing is going to change in any horrible way anytime soon in that regards.

I probably care about the same issues as you do (on these matters) as much or more than you do - but you also have to realize that the sky isn't always falling. You have to give the proper amount of weight to different pieces of information.

I guarantee you one thing - in our life-times - there will always be somebody in the government doing something stupid every minute of every day of our lives. That's what government employees do. Usually it gets worked out...kinda..sometimes...

Sorry, CB - I don't see "glib" - I see deliberately obtuse. I have been accused more than once of not having a sense of humor by posters on here. And on certain subjects I would not argue. I see the direction this country is going in and it frightens me, but even more it saddens me. I have children that I want to have the same opportunities and freedoms I never questioned when I was growing up.
The Left LOVES to call the Right "fascist", but -giving them the benefit of the doubt- they don't even see the hypocrisy of their own actions. But I really did think you would recognize the danger in the not even subtle approach of having government monitors questioning journalists and editors about what they are reporting and/or why they are reporting it, asking journalists about their personal views or asking co-workers about other workers. Come on - that is Soviet China or Soviet Russia - NOT the United States.

You have to see the chilling effect that would have on journalists and according to Leonard Downie - it is already happening. I repeat my earlier statement - I may despise many of the so-called journalists out there - but even the worst serve a purpose. An unfettered press IS one of the bulwarks of our democratic republic. Journalists MUST be able to question those in power without danger of reprisal.

Had the FCC commissioner not come out with his op-ed, implementation would have begun as planned in April. You don't find it interesting timing that a plan that has been in the works for 11 months suddenly gets supposedly "tabled" 10 days after the op-ed?

Evening Global warming report..........

"Earth's temperature has not risen significantly since 1998 and has cooled by 0.5oC since early 2007. Even the United Nations has quietly admitted this. This is completely contrary to the CO2 caused global warming theory, which states that the earth's temperature should be quickly rising because atmospheric CO2 is rising quickly. The UN and those who support the CO2 warming theory claim that the cooling is just a temporary glitch and earth's temperature will began to rise again in a year or two. However, as explained in Lesson 3, a majority of scientists now believe that we are in for a 15 to 35 year cooling cycle that has nothing to do with CO2 and everything to do with solar activity and temperature oscillations of the oceans.'

and confirmation to back up the above link..........

"Australian Researchers Warn of Global Cooling........
A new paper published by the Astronomical Society of Australia is warning of upcoming global cooling due to lessened solar activity. The study, written by three Australian researchers, has identified what is known as a "spin-orbit coupling" affecting the rotation rate of the sun. That rotation, in turn, is linked to the intensity of the solar cycle and climate changes here on Earth.

The study's lead author, Ian Wilson, explains further, "[The paper] supports the contention that the level of activity on the Sun will significantly diminish sometime in the next decade and remain low for about 20 - 30 years."

"The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and Al Gore's video Inconvenient Truth both separate earth's long term global CO2 and temperature to give the appearance that there is a high correlation between CO2 and Temperature over the past 450,000 to 650,000 years. By doing so, it leads to the conclusion that CO2 changes have historically caused temperature changes. What is not obvious, however, until the graphs are superimposed is that temperature changes always precedes CO2 changes, indicating that temperature causes CO2 to change. As the earth warms, the oceans gradually warm. Warm water holds less carbon dioxide, so the carbon dioxide dissolved in the ocean diffuses into the atmosphere. It takes hundreds of years for this to happen. That is why there is a lag of 600 to 1200 years before atmospheric carbon dioxide responds to earth's warming. The reverse is true when earth cools. Gradually the oceans cool, and the atmospheric carbon dioxide dissolves back into the ocean. "

"Rather than changes in earth's CO2 causing temperature to change, scientists have actually found that changes in earth's temperatures always precedes changes in CO2 by 400 to a 1000 years -- just the opposite of what global warming proponents would have us believe."

"It is often reported that the temperature of the earth is higher the past 20 years than it has ever been in history. This is simply not true, nor has it ever been. Hundreds of research studies using ice cores, pollen sedimentation, tree rings, etc. have shown that there were dozens of periods in the past 11,000 years (the Holocene period) that earth's temperature was warmer than it is today. Earth's temperature was very much warmer at least four times during the current interglacial period."

"The earth's temperature spiked in 1998, leading many scientists to believe it was caused by global warming. It was soon determined, however, that the spike was caused by a major El Niño event. The sun was also undergoing major activity with several major solar flares and coronal mass ejections aimed directly at earth. Since then, there is a growing consensus in the scientific community that the sun's activity is the biggest controlling factor of earth's climate as it affects cloud formation, El Niño/La Niña relationships."

"
Hundreds of research studies using ice cores, pollen sedimentation, tree rings, etc. from all over the earth have shown that there was a major cooling of the earth in the 1700s and 1800s when it was well over 1oC cooler than it is today. The theory is so well established that it is called the Little Ice Age. It was accompanied by major storms, very cold winters (the Thames River in London and the canals of Holland froze over every year), famine, and outbreaks of plagues. Scientists have discovered that during that period of time the sun was very inactive, which seems to be the driving force for climate change on the earth. The warming we see today is probably nothing more than the recovery from this Little Ice Age. "

"Before the Little Ice Age, research studies have shown that there were two major warming periods; the Medieval Climate Optimum and the Holocene Optimum when it was 1.5 to nearly 3 degrees C warmer than it is today. The Vikings colonized Greenland during the Medieval Climate Optimum when they could actually grow crops on Greenland. By the 1400s Greenland had become so cold that these colonies had to be abandoned."

Well heck........Gore and libroids are mad as heck at the weather, hot, cold, change, etc.etc not going along with their dummy expectations..........

and having a very bad year indeed..........

"2014 is Global Warming's Worst Year Ever"

"This year has been the worst ever for global warming--er, climate change. Not just because temperatures are near record lows for much of the eastern United States, but also because the western states have been warm and dry. That has led foolish politicians to claim that both the cold and the warmth are evidence of a scientific theory that few of them could actually explain if you asked them. Whatever happens, it's "climate change," because even the extreme cold must have been caused by some kind of heating somewhere else in the world.

Philosopher Karl Popper described the essence of a scientific theory as "falsifiability"--i. e. it must be possible to conceive of a way to disprove the theory, so that its validity can be demonstrated and defended. Climate change, at least in popular discourse, is unfalsifiable. Everything is taken as proof that it is happening, and the repeated failure of sophisticated climate models to predict the actual, observed results is hardly noticed. Even the name of the phenomenon itself has been changed to fit the rather contradictory outcomes ascribed to it."

Are you KIDDING? He has never denied being a member of the Weather Underground - a terrorist organization formed because they believed peaceful protests were useless. They are guilty of planting over 70 bombs at the Pentagon, Capital, police offices, etc.. The bomb that went off prematurely -killing 3 WU members (oh, darn)- was intended for a dance at Fort Dix.

The only reason charges were dropped against Ayers and Dohrn was due to "misconduct" alleged against the FBI in evidence collection.

Ayers quotes: "I'm not so much against the war as I am for a Vietnamese victory," and "I'm not so much for peace as for a U.S. defeat."

"Kill all the rich people. Break up their cars and apartments. Bring the revolution home, kill your parents, that's where it's really at." (He now claims this was a "joke" about the redistribution of wealth.- yeah, funny all right.)

In "Fugitive Days", he states: "Guilty as hell, free as a bird—it’s a great country."

JEREMIAH WRIGHT
A minister saying stupid things - yeah, it happens. But TWENTY YEARS of a minister who says things like:

"A riot is the language of the unheard."

"It is incontestable and deplorable that [African Americans] have committed crimes; but they are derivative crimes. They are born of the greater crimes of the white society."

“The government lied about inventing the HIV virus as a means of genocide against people of color. The government lied.

”“Barack knows what it means living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich, white people. Hillary would never know that.”

" We’ve got more black men in prison than there are in college.… Fact number two: Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run.”

"We started the AIDS virus. We are only able to maintain our level of living by making sure that Third World people live in grinding poverty."

"God Bless America...NO, NO, NO...God D--- America"
==========
Most people I know would leave a church where the minister preaches that kind of hate and ignorance. Says something about a person's judgement at minimum.

"Question: If Obamacare officials cannot prevent accused embezzlers from infiltrating their offices, how can they protect enrollees from grifters, con artists and thieves in the federal health insurance exchange system?

Here in my home state, a director of Connect for Health Colorado -- the state-sponsored Obamacare health insurance exchange -- was just put on administrative leave. No, Christa Ann McClure did not go on leave over the chronic problems plaguing the cursed Connect for Health website. She's on leave because she has been indicted for filching funds from her last employer in Montana.

No, the guardians of Obamacare didn't smoke her out on their own. McClure 'fessed up only after the local Billings (Mont.) Gazette newspaper reported on the charges against her. She was indicted by a grand jury on Jan. 16. But her current state government employers did not find out until last week, when McClure finally informed them because the press had published the indictment.

The Keystone Kops of the Colorado health exchange tell us they conducted "thorough" background checks of McClure. They say they "fully vetted" and investigated her references when they hired her last March for her six-figure job helming the state Obamacare office of "partner engagement." Colorado officials say she was "well-qualified" for the Obamacare job, which involves being a "liaison" with other government agencies."
