From my understanding, faith was the guiding principle behind the formation of this country, in defining how we interact and politics is one way that we do it.
The political system is the vehicle by which nations manage their societies is it not?
Having a principled leadership would keep those societies just and conversely having a leadership guided only by self-centered goals would not, it would lead to chaos.
The humanist view that we need not a power greater than ourselves is a cruel system where the strong devour the weak.
A Christian view tells us to look after the weakest.
