So just who are the real bomb throwers in the national debate?

Obama in a speech after the shooting at Rep Gifford's rally that killed 6:

"But at a time when our discourse has become so sharply polarized ... it's important for us to pause for a moment and make sure that we are talking with each other in a way that heals, not a way that wounds.
.... to expand our moral imaginations, to listen to each other more carefully, to sharpen our instincts for empathy, and remind ourselves of all the ways our hopes and dreams are bound together.
.... let's remember that it is not because a simple lack of civility caused this tragedy, but rather because only a more civil and honest public discourse can help us face up to our challenges as a nation"
==========
==========
If that is what he really wanted, he needs to talk to his fellow Democrats:

Al Gore: House Republicans are practicing "political terrorism"
Elizabeth Warren: call Republicans "anarchists"
Nancy Pelosi: calls Republican House members "legislative arsonists"
Barbara Mikulsky: In a real show of gutter speech referred to "the tea baggers in his (Cruz) tea party"
DNC video describes House Republicans as hostage takers
Harry Reid: "tea party anarchists"
And there are too many who have used the terms extort, extortion and blackmail to credit them individually.
==========

But I suggest Obama tell his own staff what he meant by civil discourse:

“We are not for ... negotiating with people who have a bomb strapped to their chest,” said senior Obama adviser Dan Pfeiffer as the government shutdown approached.“It’s not a negotiation if I show up at your house and say give me everything inside or I’m going to burn it down.”

And he might tell himself while he's at it:
Obama: The crisis will end “when Republicans realize they don’t get to hold the entire economy hostage over ideological demands,”

==========
==========
And it's already been stated, but reminders of the facts never hurt:

There have been 17 shutdowns since 1976, 15 when the House was under Democratic control.

Of the 53 increases in the debt limit since 1978, over half of them had "strings attached."
==========
And in a profound case of irony:
2006 - Senator Obama
“America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership, Americans deserve better.”

You know you watch and listen to conservative talk radio,TV and FNC. Those are a few of the places Nancy P is trashed from morning to night by conservatives, and she stays on the JOB. Not like Palin who at the first sight of big money became a celebrity, not a politician. You are correct, she couldn't afford to stay in office. Not with all the big money speaking engagements and book offers. She is no more or less than a paid actress, working and making lots of money playing the part her audience wants to see. And they just lap up the B.S. she spouts, making her a very rich woman. Nobody in their right mind now or ever feared that woman. Dems love her, she is the reason Obama is now President, that's a fact Jack!@
Examples please of the abuse Pelosi endured that in any way equal what Sarah Palin endured.

And if you want to talk money, just look at Pelosi. Poor baby, her wealth dropped to only $24 million this year.

And let's not forget what a hypocrite she is:
She's part owner of the Piatti restaurant chain, La Auberge Hotel, and a Napa Valley Vineyard—all of which are strictly non-union.
Pelosi and her husband are part owners of the CordeValle Golf Club in California. In 996 they were granted a permit to build the course if they created natural habitats for these endangered species. To date, these habitats still have not been built. The golf course has also been cited for polluting groundwater. They have hired lobbyists to fight the regulations. The golf course was also supposed to be a blend of private and public use and yet somehow whenever non members try to book a tee time, it is always full - they want to tax the little people, not play gold with them - I'm sure you understand.

Ted Cruz - a man elected to represent his constituents from the great state of Texas who is actually doing what he said he would try to do (gasp)- repeal the disaster that is Obamacare. Again, the Left shows you who they fear - and they should fear a man willing to not only stand up to the Left, but to the spineless go-along-to-get-along "leaders" of his own party. Go Cruz.
And you just keep telling yourself the conservative right is shrinking, I'm sure it helps you sleep at night.
======
By the way, your newest obsession with the term "REAL facts" got old REAL fast, do us a favor and move along.
Yep, you're right, Ted cruz can represent his state in any manner he sees fit, just as I, and others, can look at his strategy and see it as a dead end. But hey, he sure does posture well.

Yep, you're right, stand firm on those principals, don't budge, don't cave, don't compromise, folks are beginning to see you for exactly what you are, right wing extremists. Those low approval numbers, that's your base, your like minded adherents, you should enjoy your minority you're so right for it.

Oh, by the way, the distinction between facts and REAL facts was established by Whom is How Now Brown Cow, the REAL fact that you find this absurdity annoying is of no concern to me.

Here on Earth that "Broken Record" is the recitation of the indisputable facts that illuminate the Right Wing Lie Machine for what it is.

Demonstrating the hypocrisy and lunacy of Right Wingers is just too easy and fun.
Yeah, more easy fun...

“The House and Senate have to go to conference to reconcile the differences between their two budget resolutions. When Reid tried to get the process started in the Senate, the usual suspects from the GOP rose one by one with objections. This was a charade that went on for weeks. They made it clear that they wanted the Democrats consent agreement in advance on all of the elements in the Ryan budget passed by the House or there would be no conference. They were the ones who didn’t want to negotiate.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/10/12/1246...
“The budget is up to the President and he didn’t do one,” is the answer I got on Friday when I called my House representative’s office to ask why the government was shut down.

...And the glib, self-satisfied, snotty Luke Russert sound-alike on the phone didn’t hesitate for a nanosecond after my question.“The budget is up to the President and he didn’t do one.”

I didn’t hesitate either and I politely offered him a civics lesson.“Do you have a copy of the Constitution there or a laptop in front of you? The Constitution authorizes Congress, only, to appropriate money for spending. Not the President.”

“Luke’s” juvenile mocking tone showed he wasn’t impressed.“Yeah, well, Congress gets the budget from the President and he never sent it this year.”

I answered the only way I could.“The President’s Fiscal Year 2014 Budget was posted on the Congressional Budget Office website earlier this year and the CBO analyzed it and published its findings online.“

“Luke” tried to interrupt me but I wasn’t done speaking.“You know, this isn’t the first year ever for Congress to work on fiscal matters. The budget process is outlined in the Congressional Budget Act of 1974 with a calendar of deadlines to keep the process on track for completion before the fiscal new year on October 1. You can find that on the Budget Committee page for the House and Senate. The required deadlines were very important to the Republicans in January and they introduced the No Budget No Pay Act because they wanted strict adherence on the deadlines. It was passed in the House and Senate and the President signed it. The House and Senate passed their budgets by the deadline and what happened after that? Why weren’t the rest of the deadlines on the calendar completed?”

“Luke” didn’t sound so cocky anymore.“But the President has to negotiate.”

I told him to look at the calendar of deadlines.“The House and Senate have to go to conference to reconcile the differences between their two budget resolutions. Read the verbatim transcripts in the Congressional Record from April 24 to May 15. The Republicans never even appointed conferees to the conference because they didn’t want to negotiate. Instead they let the clock run out on the fiscal year knowing that they made no appropriations for the new fiscal year. They didn’t even reauthorize 2013 spending to avoid disruptions on October 1. They thought it would be easier to extract concessions from the Democrats once they were faced with the urgency of a government shutdown. The President is wise not to negotiate with Republican extortionists.“

Angie, Angie, Angie You do understand the theory of apples and oranges, well maybe not. First time in our history a minority part of a political party has held up funding to try and get an existing law changed, defunded or anything else with an existing law you can come up with. Look at the previous shut downs and tell me how they compare to the audacity of a party using blackmail to get something done that they can't get done in Congress.

During the Ford and Carter administrations, funding gaps caused 6 partial shutdowns that affected only the departments of Labor and Health, Education, and Welfare. These lasted from 8 to 18 days and the primary issue of dispute was federal funding for abortion. During the Reagan administration, there were 8 funding gaps with technical shutdowns lasting less than 48 hours or over weekends while spending measures were negotiated. A funding gap during the George H. W. Bush administration also caused a weekend shutdown, resolved late the following Monday.[2]

During the Clinton administration, after conservatives made massive congressional gains in the 1994 Republican Revolution, there were two full government shutdowns lasting 5 and 21 days respectively, both the longest and most severe to that date. These shutdowns led to massive furloughs and significant disruption. The primary issue was the United States budget deficit.

The United States federal government shutdown of 2013 is ongoing, having begun at midnight at the start of October 1, 2013. The primary issue of dispute between the Republican-controlled House of Representatives and the Democratically-controlled Senate (the latter supported by President Obama) is the Republicans' desire to delay or defund the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), signed into law in 2010.[3
