I heard that Brownwood really sucks to live in? It looks super boring, almost a stop, eat, and go-on town? I guess if you're older, this might be the place for you, but it seems dead, is the economy failing?

Depends Fierce. If your young and single , I wouldn't suggest it. If you want to raise a family it's a good place.
If your looking for a small town in Texas it's tops. Other than that its a personal choice.

Yes it does. Especially when you can't find a job due to this town being too much of a buddy system.

Brownwood really needs to widen their horizons instead of building another hotel/motel. We need fun things to do. Where did the put put golf go? What about a racetrack for kids and adults. Why doesn't the city go and scout other places that have great things and bring them to Brownwood.
Plus another major thing that keeps growing is young girls having kiddos and on welfare. And half of the time they don't even know who the father is. I know this one who had triplets and told the guy she was living with that they were his. Apparently he found out that they weren't his and that she has been seeing other men on the side while he was working at Kohler. ALl I am saying is we need something that is fun and safe for these youngsters.

It does suck! There are no jobs unless you are a nurse, CNA, or drug dealer. There is 3M that will interview 5,000 people a year for 5 jobs. And let's not forget Kohler that only employs people for whom English, if they speak it at all, is a second language. We have more drugs in town on any given day than just about anywhere in the state. Let's not forget the child molesters that, if they even get prosecuted, get plea deals that give then probation an put then back on the streets. Yep...real nice place. That's why I no longer live there.

My better half took a job here and we were told it's a great place to raise a family. So we decided to give it a try. It has been al most a year. Here is what an educated family thinks of this town. Not a family town. the lack of things for kids to do is nonexsistant. There are no sidewalks for kids to ride bikes or to even walk to school which if they do walk to school they will most certainly get run over by the lack of crossing guards and police officers. Next the appearance of the town. No code enforcement what so ever. Trees that have not been trimmed in 10 years grass growing in streets. Houses that need to be condemned and torn down. Economic growth. None. Why would any new people want to invest in this town? The local government is and has been robbing it blind for years. Just look around. In 1941 brownwoodsuzuki population was about the same. They had over 5000000 soldiers come through when camp Bowie was here. None of them stayed. Read their diaries they said the same thing then. People say today. So in 80 years if the population does not grow. What does that tell you? That even they people who grew up here wanted out. Brownwood could be a nice small town. But for that to happen its citizens. Need to speak up and stop letting the local goverenment take advantage of you. Growth equals jobs and jobs mean economic growth and so on. But the standards of most of the town are so low that eventually the town will implode and disappear. The hospital will be the 1st to go. Then eventually either 3m or Khoeler next. Nothing ever stays the same. When most if te elderly people with money die. Who will buy the new cars and e houses ect. All of this will not happen tomorrow but it will happen. I do not care because I will not be here. This was a good move in the sense that it makes you appriciate certain things.

For an "educated" man, you have no concept of spelling or grammar. Take your uneducated family and be gone. Brownwood will not miss you.

I agree with just doing her time to a certain extent. I was born and raised here, moved off and came back. The city has fewer restaurants, no movie theater, nothing for kids to do. Poverty is wide spread. Over 70 percent of the kids are on free or subsidized lunches at school. It is a shame that the local community leaders do not see this.

There IS a movie theater...it's at the mall. However, that is all we have here for the kids to do anymore. Game rooms...gone. Skating rink...gone. Bowling alley...too many dopeheads and wannabe thugs hanging around. The new poll is nice, but way too small for the area it services. No wonder crime is rampant...the kids are bored to tears!

I was born in Brownwood, left for college in Philadelphia, and then returned to Texas to finish at North Texas. When I came back to my hometown, only two things changed: meth was beginning to take its hold over everything and people were getting fatter.

That was back in 2004. I left again to live in Austin, which by the way is turning into Dallas and yes that sucks as much as it sounds. Living in Austin became too expensive for me and my girlfriend, so we returned to Brownwood to find that the meth had only grown stronger and the fat people were all dead because their now-obese children could not work to pay for health care.

It is now 2013. Brownwood is eating itself from the inside. The only way you can make it in this town is if you pay the right person, sleep with the right person, and kiss the right person's ass. There is no hope for intelligence, education, or creative thought. The rich fund high school football players with new cars and virgin daughters. The poor fund drug dealers who in turn pay the rich to be left alone.

If you think for yourself and question authority, you will be shunned. You will be ridiculed and you will be outnumbered.

My daughter is five months. She will not be raised in the same environment that I was raised in while growing up in this cesspool of Texas. She will not be influenced by the hypocrisy of Brownwood churches, the evil of racists locals, and the infinite void of culture.

Only through necessity am I still living here, but through my own determination I will be leaving Texas for more prosperous locations.

Do not live in Brownwood. There is nothing here to be gained and everything to be lost.

What has been said about Brownwood is the truth. If you are not from the town, forget about finding a job. Jobs go to the locals, it is a buddy-buddy system and the jobs go to those they know. Education, skill sets, experience mean nothing to the government here, both in Brownwood and Brown County. In some cases. jobs are not advertised to the public, but appointments made to positions based on who you know. Despite its size, Brownwood fails to modernize. The majority of the town stores are reminiscent of what you would find in an old, old, old run down town. If you are an outsider (someone who was not born here), forget it. You had better have savings set aside to live off because you will be hard pressed to find a job here. There is very little available for children as far as recreation and after school activities. I have yet to see children riding bikes or playing in park. There is nothing here.

Correction. The movie theatre is not in Brownwood, it's in Early. Not really within walking distance for the kids.

As if Brownwood and Early have ever really been considered two separate places for anything other than governmental purposes! Even at that, it's not as though the old theater was really within walking distance for many kids anyway.

I can tell you that Brownwood has a lot of friendly people willing to help. The school district has some bullies but not a lot...It is right next to Early that has a good restaurant called Underwood's. There is many people to befriend with too.

I moved here when I was 14 I am now 22. I love it here in brownwood. Although there is a lot of problems and such. I lived in San Antonio before here and that was hard living. Jobs sick here. Favoritism is defiantly a huge part of the town but All and all everyone is friendly and willing to give a helping hand. You can drive down the street and wave at people sitting outside. We do need to expand and create more activities for the children. But everyone has the right to make their own decisions and parents have the right to raise their children right not to do wrong. It's not just the town that causes problem. It's the people that live in it. If parents would raise their children right and kids had a sense of mind they would figure it out. And girls getting pregnant at a young age is everywhere you go. So let's not all beat up brownwood it's not that bad there are much worse places in this world.
