US contractor in Iraq accused of electrocution deaths
Published: Friday July 11, 2008
The biggest US military contractor in Iraq, KBR, was steeped in another scandal Friday as lawmakers, families and experts accused it of recklessly causing the electrocution deaths of US soldiers.
"While I had always been prepared to hear that one of my sons died by way of a firefight or a roadside bomb, I was dumbstruck to hear that my son was electrocuted while taking a shower in his living quarters," said Cheryl Harris, mother of army Staff Sergeant Ryan Maseth, who died in January.
Maseth's "burnt and smoldering" body was found under still-running, electrically charged water by a fellow soldier who kicked down the door of the bathroom at an army base in Baghdad, Harris told a hearing of the Senate Democratic policy committee.
KBR, a former subsidiary of the Halliburton energy firm which was once led by Vice President Dick Cheney, was contracted to maintain facilities at the base and had been informed of electrical problems in the building where Maseth died.
But, said Harris, KBR showed "extreme recklessness and a total disregard for public safety" by failing to fix the problem as well as others that have caused at least 13 electrocution deaths among soldiers and civilian contract workers in Iraq.
Larraine McGee also lost her son, National Guard Staff Sergeant Christopher Everett, to electrocution at another facility maintained by KBR, which won the "elephant contract" for Iraq, under which it is tasked with providing and maintaining housing for US forces.
"On September 7, 2005, Chris was power-washing a Humvee... when he was instantly killed by an electrical shock," his mother said.
The army had been aware that the generator supplying energy to the power washer was not properly grounded, and several soldiers had reported receiving electrical shocks from the equipment prior to her son's death, said McGee.
Still grief-stricken at the loss of her son, McGee also feels anger towards KBR, she told AFP.
"How can they stand there, an American company, and say they're supporting our troops?" she said as tears moistened her eyes.
"They are not supporting our troops. They're undermining our efforts. I don't know that I want to go so far as to say they're murdering our troops, but in essence if you take something that is so easy to fix but you don't even though you know there's a problem, that is homicide, in my mind," she said.
Debbie Crawford, who worked as an electrician for KBR in Iraq, drew a grim picture of incompetence, lack of accountability, poor leadership and poor workmanship by KBR.
"Qualified electricians found it difficult to deal with the complacency, the lack of leadership, the lack of tools and materials, and the lack of safety... Time and again we heard,'You're in a war zone, what do you expect?' and 'If you don't like it you can go home,'" she said.

So you like them huh? Well they do market themselves towards MHMR and drug rehabilitation type audiences. So I am sure there is a mass market for their laughing gas humor in the central Texas area. Personally I think it’s dangerous for them to continue their constant railings to their own peril. We do live in a day where it is common for disgruntled and disillusioned people to snap! Who end up terrorizing a work place. GOD FORBID THAT WOULD EVER HAPPEN. But if it did, my thoughts would be, well it was invited. Research school shootings & you will find the driving force behind the shooter was he felt humiliated & bullied.
About Steve, he raises some good questions, posts interesting articles and videos that seem to make KXYL and its defenders very uncomfortable. I think it is perfectly fine to disagree with Steve, but please do it with some substance. Maybe you should come on this forum with some topic-substance rather than just emotion. I’ve asked several business owners what they thought of Mike and JR in the morning. And they said they couldn’t listen to those idiots, which is a shame because I think they both have so much to offer.
Proverbs 27:5 states “Open rebuke is better than secret love"
Which means constructive criticism is not hateful, as you see it to be.”
Mike your pathetic plea to your guest was laughable! You asked “What can you do when someone threatens you on line?” His reply: Report it to your local police! Oh Gasp!
I agree with him. However I see no threat in this post! You & Shaman saw it as a threat! Hmmm? I see a yellow flashing light that would suggest caution. You both missed the part where I said “GOD FORBID THAT WOULD EVER HAPPEN” Not quite a threat is it? Anyway I have my share of police officer friends, you bring the coffee I’ll bring the doughnuts. So much for “Setting The Record Straight”
What do you think of Jesse Jackson saying he’d cut Barack Obama's nutts off?
Should Barack Obama Report it to the local police?
Oh oh! I shouldn’t have mentioned that! Now you’ll feel like I threatened to castrate you.
Where does your paranoia come from?

Mike Cope said this morning "I think people who walk around looking for things to be offended at ARE JUST STUPID! Mike don't be so hard on yourself.
" Just because you've heard a "radio newscaster" (most likely a radio talk show host) saying these things, does not mean that they are all true or that they are all the complete story. "Radio newscasters" such as Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, Sean Hannity, et al, are not "newscasters," they are commentators ... they don't have to tell the truth and most usually, they are not. Before you get so concerned ... RESEARCH what you heard. I'll bet you that the true story isn't what the "radio newscaster" reported."

Michael Savage holds a master's degrees in medical botany and medical anthropology and earned a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, in nutritional ethnomedicine. As Michael Weiner, he has written books on herbal medicine and homeopathy. As Michael Savage, he has written four New York Times bestsellers. His radio show reaches more than 10 million listeners on 410 stations throughout the United States, ranking third in number of stations syndicated nationwide and third in nationwide audience behind Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.

KXYL’s “Big Show” High school deploma holders Mike Cope & JR Williams called Michael Savage an Idiot on this mornings show. Thanks Beaves & Butthead you’re so powerful with your hundred mile radius coverage. Why don't you have Savage on your "Big Show" & call him an Idiot?

If you must know you're the idiot! There are plenty of typographical errors on these forums.
Is that all you can do is spell check?

I see, its ok for you to be an idiot just not anybody else, you always get the free pass. Do not practice the old saying of "do as I say but not as I do" or you are as guilty as those that you comdemn. I dont think that was a typographical error! You are too stupid to know how to spell diploma, because you've never seen one. You can't hold everyone that you despise to such a high standard if you cant make the standard yourself.

Steve of Steves "I hate conservatives and Christians and anyone different from me" Deli...I'm listening at work and just happen to be able to listen and check this out at the same time! You are such a little liar. Bashing Dylan? Mentioned the great lyrics but can't understand them when he sings them, not an uncommon comment about Dylan. And they do have to even play any Dylan music but did, so must someone there must like it, but you want to lie again about those guys. You have a very unhealthy infatuation with these guys.

Good for you KXYL defender "Steve" on listening to the duo at your work ! Bashing Dylan is not a new thing for the KXYL duo of Mike Cope and James Ray Williams. This mornings Bob Dylan bashing was lame and tame compared to their previous on air Bob Dylan bashing "performances" ! Let roll that tape of their previous on air basing of Bob Dylan ! I really enjoyed their Bible in the schools interview with The Free Market Foundation spokesperson. Did you too ? Q: What was up with James Ray Williams comment regarding kids carrying a tattoo magazine ? Talk about a "unhealthy infatuation" !

Labbe: An editor's 'Try again' doesn't mean 'no.'
BY J.R. LABBE
jrlabbe@star-telegram.com

Conservative talking heads and e-mail chatter were ablaze Tuesday after the Drudge Report posted a piece Monday that claimed The New York Times rejected a guest column from Sen. John McCain because it did not "mirror" one published a week earlier by Sen. Barack Obama.

It’s the best thing to happen to the McCain campaign this week. He needed the boost. Obama’s tour to Afghanistan, the Middle East and Europe with major TV anchors in tow had relegated McCain to B-roll of him riding in a golf cart with Papa Bush and sitting at a Yankees game with Rudy Giuliani.

Nothing can jump-start a Republican’s campaign faster than a perceived slight by the big bad liberal media.

"Bias!" cried Republicans, who are in a 4-foot hover over the fact that the Times’ opinion page editor, David Shipley, served as a special assistant and speechwriter to President Clinton from 1995 to 1997.

Hatorri,
Why don't you be man enough to quit hiding behind that stupid avatar. It shows how dishonest and cowardly you really are.
It is just a matter of time until the public will know who you are.
You and Steve have lied about Mike and JR .

Hattori, my whole life is not posted on the KXYL website. Just for clarification, I attended West Texas State University on a full art scholarship when I was married to my first wife. We moved closer to our families after a couple of semesters and transferred to Tarleton State, where I changed majors and won a presidential merit scholarship in addition to working my way through school. I am a member of Alpha Chi, which is the college honor society that is only open to the top 10% of university students. I was president of Phi Alpha Theta, the history honor society. I held a 4.0 GPA until my senior year when it dropped to a 3.85. I was named in the 1991 edition of "Who's Who In American Colleges And Universities". I also attended East Texas State University for a few semesters when I was married to my second wife. I am a semester away from a Bachelor's degree in history with a double minor in art and English. I'm also a published scientific illustrator, journalist and technical writer. Those accomplishments don't list other professional and management classes I've completed in the course of a lifetime.

Despite your snobbery, I would match brain-pans with you any day, in any arena-- whatever your educational pedigree. Some of the most idiotic people I've ever met have held PhDs, and that goes for my opinion of Michael Savage.

However, the point of my comments about Michael Savage, which were obviously over your head, was that despite the fact that I disagree with his inflammatory remarks and consider him an idiot, I think the First Amendment guarantees his right to his opinion no matter how ignorant or ill-informed I think it is. If he can find advertisers who will buy spots on his show and a radio station willing to carry him, more power to him.
