SOME SHOW

Ilion, NY

#1 Mar 23, 2013
19 of 21 showed up to introduce themselves and answer questions last nite. Bill Lennox, Steve Coupe, Dan Lalonde, Tom Goldin, Robert Bronner, Walt Roginski and Jim Vitali were very good. I would have to say Vicki Judd, Bonnie Coffin and Deb Schoff were good, in that order.

Several of the hopefuls were very shaky. Many seemed to be well intentioned people but out of their league were Jackson, McKinley, Shedd, Sperl and Pederson.
Bob Berger doesn't thinks a diminishing tax base and less state funding is our financial problem. It's simply our spending. Berger vote no to the merger across the board claiming more time was needed to make an informed decision.
Fred Shell side-stepped the question as to how he voted on the Ilion/Mohawk merger, don't worry Fred no one caught that (sarcasm).
Orlo Burch has little or nothing to offer and voted against the merger.
Lori Sementilli said she voted no to merger across the board claiming more time was needed to make an informed decision. Lori also made some statement about our state aid figures being fictitious and she was rebuffed by another candidate.
Reed and Hendrix were not in attendance.

How one performs at a meet the candidate is just one factor that should be considered. Character, integrity, past personal and professional accomplishments are much better indicators of strong candidates.
Please explain the hopefuls "being very shakey", and out of their league. Is it just by chance that those that you felt were very good 5 of the 7 are ex Ilion School Board members?

The meeting at the college is all many of us will have.
Out of 21 BOE hopefuls, Mohawk has 5 in the race. I place 3 Mohawk hopefuls in the top 8. Is it because they're ex Mohawk board members??? Yes and they have a proven a resume, same as the others from Ilion.
"Being very shaky" meant the candidate's had shaky voices, were clearly uncomfortable, had weak answers, have little or no BOE experience and/or fked up, as written above.

These individuals are members of small communities, and their resume's not hard to come by, if you and others are voting solely for or against an individual based on this one meeting and the staus quo of former BOE members, then I am afraid you and others are living the definition of insanity.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

You're right, let's vote for the one's with no experience, an axe to grind, that avoided a question and was against merger start to finish. Great idea.

Oh and dumbass, the existing BOE members didn't cause our present situation. Try a diminishing tax base and reduced state funding.

I also attended the meeting and not one single candidate had an answer to how the United States was going to put a man on the planet Venus.
Not one single candidate knew how to give a human a brain transplant or how to invent atoms.
Therfore I will not be voting this year.

The former BOE members should not be elected as they are the ones who ran two schools into to financial ruin. When the state reduced funding and the tax base shrunk the administration, teachers union and BOE did not handle this by reducing costs, only cut programs. The buzz words are going to be "more responsibility" with a larger school. Average salary of teachers is $40,000 while average salary in Utica is $31,000. Taxpayers are the employers while the teachers and administration are the employees, only in government do the workers do better than the boss.

Terry Sterling, you keep saying the same ridiculous garbage every time that you corner a cameraman at a public forum, and your ignorance is boring! New York State is a union state, so it upholds contracts and cannot reduce salaries. The BOE has absolutely no control over this, so take your complaints to the Governor, Senate , and Assembly. You are absolutely clueless as to the average salaries as well. Do us all a favor and leave the reporters open for interviews with people who DO know the facts.

What a retard.

When funding was reduced all districts made cuts, began co-op buying through BOCES and shared all services possible. Last year Mohawk and Ilion shared the same Business Manager. Salaries, benefits and the like are contractual and can't be reduced. Also, Utica teachers make 10k more than valley teachers.

You obviously are a fkin idiot.

Only an idiot would vote in an existing BOE member who already led your individual districts to financial ruin. Oh wait you are still convinced that the state did that!?!? Wake up that was done by your school boards and your super! The same super you idiots will probably give the job of the new district to.

Deb Schoff talked liked everyone was in pre-k--I almost fell asleep and she clearly just liked hearing herself talk. Vicki was good but a little overpowering. Bonnie Coffin was shaky at first but recovered well when the questions came and clearly was the most informed besides Steve Coupe, as they both spit out merger and budget information with no hesitation. Sementelli killed her chance when she said she alway s voted no. Schell didnt tell the truth because he told me he always voted no, Mckinley not sure of her name was ok but obviosly has never been to a board meeting in her life, good luck voters you are all screwed.

Damn right!!! Every valley school is in a terrible financial situation because every BOE in the valley sucks and has spent our tax dollars wildly.

Our tax base has increased by leaps and bounds with all of the new industry opening their doors in our area. The Arms is not only staying in the valley, they have a 1 billion dollar expansion plan. The housing and population boom here is amazing too. With all this and NYS sending ever increasing education dollars to our schools every year makes you wonder where it all goes.

Can you imagine the school districts trying to make us believe the tax base is steadily decreasing and the state is sending districts less and less. Those BOE people are such liarís.

I thought Terry Turnbull was great. He wanted to sell Ilion back to the Indians for $5.00....which is $4.50 more then it's worth....He also supports nuclear bomb testing on Ilion..which is also a great idea.
Also he wants to ban schools considering ever kid in the Mohawk Valley will only grow up to be a criminal and crack head anyways..That should save the tax payers a few dollars.
He gets my vote.
