Why can people not understand that welfare is what's breaking this country? This includes disability, food stamps, all government funding. If you don't work to earn it then it's Welfare. And just because it's available doesn't mean you've earned it.

Don't get me wrong I believe that anyone can fall on hard times and need assistance for a short period of time. I'm speaking of the people who have lived their entire lives off the government.

I'm talking about the person who is just too lazy to get a job; the person who just keeps having babies because they can get more money; the person drawing disability yet working ever day for cash.

Let's not even talk about the people who then use this welfare money to buy beer, cigarettes, drugs, etc. They should pass that law that all welfare recipients be drug tested and if they are caught buying one beer or a pack of cigarettes they should be cut off.

I'm a every day working citizen who pays taxes so that these people can sit back and live off the government. Frankly, I'm fed up with it. The system stinks and more of these people should be investigated.

what happen to the day DHS would actually visit the home to be sure it was in order-guess sitting behind a desk all day taking applicants word for who all shares the household is much easier than going out and investigating each claim.Years ago, only certain people were allowed to live in a home and it must be kept clean. Also alot of little fat kids were raised on commodities. Need to toss those food card.

there are people who deserve help and fall on hard times but there are way too many who deliberatly abuse the system. Those who lie about their income - maybe working for cash and not reporting it, those who claim they pay more rent than they actually do - those who keep having children , knowing if their benifits were to be cut off , they could not feed or clothe these children.I am sorry but these are "MY" tax dollars that is supporting you. I see each year people getting 6 to 8 thousand dollars back in earned income on their tax return who may have paid in a total of 500 dollars - instead of paying your rent up in advance or putting money aside for your child needs - you take a vacation. That is NOT what earned income was intended.I would love to be able to change all this but there is no way - the country is too far gone, people expect handouts.I say if our government is gonna pass out free stuff, then give it to the elderly who have worked all thier lives and paid thier dues to this country. You young people who set back and expect the country to support you - get a job!! It's not beneath you and yes there are jobs out there - You could have been mowing grass - baby sitting - picking up cans to sell - working at a fast food place-not the high dollar jobs you want - but it will bring in some money.Leave welfare for the elderly , the truly disabled and handycapped and yes for those have temporarily fallen on hard times and need a little help picking themselves up and get going again. Before you start your bashing me - I have fell on hard times in my younger years - I NEVER received suppliments - I did however start a baby sitting service and learned how to can food to help feed my family. We servived without food stamps or a check from the government.

I would have to agree! I have received benefits from the state for the last coupe of years by way of foodstamps. How ever I did not abuse it.I have now been able to get on my feet and am excited that I have, within the past 30 days, been able to write a letter to my caseworker Thanking her and the state for helping me provide for my children when my job was laid off, and requesting no further assistant because I am now back on my feet and stable! God is good!

Good for you! I am on food stamps right now, as I can't find a job in town anywhere, been looking everyday, worked most of my life and then have hit hard times, hoping to get back on my feet soon to as I hate help of any kind, always did things for myself. So its a shock when the rug gets yanked out from under you, so to speak.

It is too bad that people take such advantage that it becomes hard to take care of people like yourselves that really need it. That is what has happened to our country. There are so many dishonest people in the world today, and they think nothing about lying on the paperwork to get something from the government. They just think it is ok, no big deal. But , someday the money will run out and nobody will be able to get a dime from the government, then they will be stealing from their neighbors because they will convince themselves that it is ok to do that also.

I agree with most of what has been said on this thread. I 100 percent support assistance for people who need it--people who are struggling and who have fallen on hard times deserve the help. But I also agree that the system is way too easily abused! Especially the families first thing where they can get cash back from their food stamp card. Seriously?? That needs to be abolished now--its a food stamp card. Not a free drugs on the taxpayers card. And that's not the only way its being abused. I used to work at ew james and I lost count of how many times I would watch someone pay for their groceries with food stamps, then carry their bags to their car and they would be driving navigators, escalades, chargers, etc. Now that is sickening.

You're keen to look on the bright side of things and to ignore anything unpleasant or worrying. That's fine, provided that you're ready to face up to life's difficulties again tomorrow.
