I attended this school on Prospect Street and lived just down the street from it. I remember the many steps steps in the front of the building just to get to the front door.

Any pictures of the three theaters that used to be in Brownsville? How about the Nut Shop, they had the best donuts around these parts. Does anyone remember the pizza shop that used to be near the 5&10 back during the mid-70s?

Are you on Facebook? There's a page there called "Things that aren't there anymore, Brownsville Pa and surrounding areas" and pictures of the nut house have been posted. There's a lot of pics posted there of Brownsville.

Sorry about that. Not sure why it posted twice. I don't know how to remove one of them.

Anyone recognize the Shunk family from Brownsville? I am trying to find Simon Shunk Jr. who was last living in Brownsville Pa. in 1850. Son George daughter Mary LeClere are both buried in Redstone Cemetery.

Good to see the school in the pictures. My grandfather was the principal there in the 1920's - Charles M. Miller

I was born in 1957 in Brownsville Pa. My Grandma & Grandpa were from Italy & settled in Allison (Ida & Tito Mattie} they had 16 children! One of them being my Mother ( Lucy Mattie) married Jimmy Lutz! All of my family grew up in Brownsville & the surrounding area's! I have so many great memories! The old Theater was only 25 cents to see a movie when I was 7, I also remember at the 5 & dime around Easter kids were able to pick out real baby chicks that were dyed all different colors

I have SO many GREAT Memories of Growing Up in Brownsville! Although we moved away in the late 60's...we would visit every Holiday & have our Family reunion every 1st Thursday in August! I came from a huge family so I have many many relatives that still live there & surrounding areas! I had Mrs. whitehead for 1st grade (she was one of my favorite teachers) Mrs. Craven for 2cd Grade! I have Great memories of going shopping at the 5 &10 & just walking thru town & all the old stores! MISS it SO Much{ when it was so alive}!! My Mom's Brother {JOHN MATTIE} was Chief of Police & My Cousins {JAN ONDRA & GEORGE ONDRA} Owned & ran HILLBILLIES PIZZA! <3
