Nobody cares about Edmonson County or what goes on there. Instead of being proud that there's a bunch of people who make it look bad you should try to clean it up. And yes, you should worry about your grammar skills because in the real world people will think you are stupid and that can reflect on whether or not you even get a good job. Stupid is as stupid does I guess. Laundary! LOL.

lol I couldn't agree more with you. But I guess people around her are too worried about getting bust for drugs, collecting welfare and too busy in other peoples business to actually care about spelling a grammar or any education for that matter. Haha and I live here! It's sad.

It's laundry. I'm not trying to be mean but you spelled it wrong. Even if I knew you and were a friend I'd tell you if you spelled something wrong because I wouldn't want to set you up for failure. I wonder if you don't even care and maybe you are already a failure??????

You know when I was growing up in Brownsville we never locked our doors and your family was always there for you !! You never needed Gov. aid unless you where at the end of your rope and you were ashamed to use food stamps cause it was an embarrassment to your whole family and you never thought of divorce !!And then people from other places started coming in and some locals started wanting to be more like BG and now you have a county that cant live without child support , welfare , food stamps , Gov. houseing and anything else free !! And I sure dont hold it against them for its the way they have been programed !! I dont want to anger nobody I just wish we had our small town's back !! And yes people we had probably the most honest familys in state !! And thats why so many want to poke fun and ridicule our county cause there jealous of what it once was and there's never has and never will be !!!

yes, small towns are so great. like when they used to intimidate minorities from living here (not that it has changed, but just saying), used to shun women and call them whores because the made the mistake of getting knocked up by some man who was too lousy to marry her, and making their women have so many kids that it broke their bodies because that's "the way that it supposed to be". times change and so do people. sounds as if you are trying to romanticize a piece of the past that wasn't so romantic at all. don't forget to add in the dirty parts of the past too. having said that, appreciate the things that have changed for the best.

Govt. housing isn't free. It is based on your income. Those two projects have been around a long time......not exactly a new concept imported from BG. One is section eight and the other is income based. The amount you pay under section eight is still determined by your income, assets, etc. Many of the residents are senior citizens who don't have family watching after them. If it wasn't for Home Health and the Day Care Center, they would be in a real pickle.

Everyone have a great weekend.

Jealous of Edmonson county for what? Because we have active meth labs all over the county, or is it that because about 1 in 5 residents is drawing a crazy check, or maybe it is because we still have students graduating that can't read, or better yet how people still think that women should be bare foot and pregnant in the kitchen cooking? Really do you think that is what they are jealous of. I've lived here a long time and I've yet to see an honest family in this town. They all have the secrets some just hide it better than others. The sad part is Edmonson could be an awesome place to live if we all would just do our part to try to clean it up, to make sure our children are getting their education (I mean it's paid by your taxes so shouldn't they do their job). We all so need to get out of the "good ole" boys state of mind when it comes to the jobs around here and hire qualified people instead of your mother's uncle or brother because they are family. We need to start turning in the people who are committing welfare fraud and disability fraud. We need parents to start acting like parents and taking care of their kids and when they don't social services needs to step in and put them somewhere else.

It's sad that our county is in the shape it is in. It's even more upsetting that you think it is all because of welfare. Most of these people wouldn't even need it if they had support from their families, but families don't seem to care about one another anymore. You would think in a county with less than 11,000 people you wouldn't have to worry about as many problems, but this is good ole EC and nothing changes, they just sweep it under the rug.

I think alot of the problem is what your parents did not teach their children. The youth does not care for anything. They just seem to think that everyone owes them something.Our county has always been a good place to live. As always things are changing with the times that is not to say for the better.

I don't know how much of the selfishness of the current younger adults is entirely due to lack of training at home. The media and society in general keeps throwing out the message to take care of number one. It is re-enforced everywhere. They are buying it.

When I lived in EC, proper, I was appauled at the number of elderly who were neglected by their adult children who had resources. Old Mom and Dad were no longer useful and watching after them was not convenient. The elderly just kept quiet, went to church, and cried behind closed doors.

I now live kind of on the border of EC and Warren County. It is the same around here. You hate to call Adult Protective Services as you don't want some elderly person with a clear mind but frail body to end up in a nursing home. Unless you can afford a private, self pay unit at a private facility, you end up in what amounts to a semi-private hospital room with no real privacy and sense of dignity. The best subsidized facilities may do their best but their best is limitted. Community based programs for home care have been cut back drasticly in the last few years. Its a mess all over. Later

I dont blame people who really need help ! I just dont think as many actually need it that gets it !! Apparently you feel the same ,you just said so ! And as for the family's your wrong the old familys that's been here from far in the past are good people, but you seam to narrow minded to admit it its the generations after who may have strayed !! And as for education the ones who are there to learn do and the rest well you may look at your own kids for that !!! And the meth labs wouldnt it be great if they were gone from every Co. not just ours !!! And from the sound of things you should just give up and go somewhere else and our prayers will be with you !!!

I'm going to post some facts from the 2010 census bureau comparing Edmonson County to the great Warren County, since so many people in this forum seems to be madly in love with it. The problems in EC you are bitching about is in EVERY county. It just gets exaggerated (<--- word used for the grammar police) in EC because our population is smaller making it seem much worse than anywhere else.

Household Income:
EC =$33,550 WC =$43,316
WC households earn an AVG of $813 more a month,
not exactly life-changing money.

Persons Per Household:
EC = 2.38 WC = 2.43
Hey "oh sure", where all 'dem women with broken bodies 'cause they had all 'dem kids at? Warren County has a higher PPH, AND they have 6 times more households, 46,321 compared to 6,503. Looks like we need to be buying those horny people in WC some TV's to give 'em something else to do at night.

My personal favorite:
Home Ownership Rate:
EC = 79.2% WC = 62.6%
WOW! How can us poor, starving, government assistance needing, food stamp using, crackheads up here in EC own more homes than those rich bastards in Warren County? Even better, our rate beats, Hart, Grayson, Logan, and Barren counties as well. Only Butler, yes poor, dirty Butler County has a higher % than us = 80.2%

And now the nail-in-your-coffin, shut-your-damn-mouth about my county stat of the week!:
Persons below poverty level:
EC = 20.8% WC = 17.1%
EC has 12,161 people living here. At 20.8% poverty level, we have 2,529 people on welfare. Warren county has 113,792 people. At 17.1%, that's a whopping 19,458 people on welfare. Close to DOUBLE the amount of people in ALL of Edmonson county.

So the next time you want to run your dumbass mouths about how bad it sucks here, and how many people cook meth instead of burgers in their backyards, and how much better it is everywhere else, SHUT THE HELL UP!'Cause you don't have the facts to back it up.

Wow Dave C, you really don't know how to rationalize statistics do you? Of course warren co has more people on welfare, they have over 56 times the amount of people in edmonson county. 6 percent of edmonson co is on welfare compared to 8 percent in warren county. What's the big deal? Warren co, while it may have more people on welfare, has a lot more money, better homes, more jobs and overall a better living environment.

I'm wrong, they have 9.41 times the amount of people in edmonson county. Still.....they will have more welfare because statistically it's probable. And edmonson county has around a 20% welfare rate. Which is comparable to Warren Co yet it has less people.

I grew up in Edmonson County. I have spent my life hearing people bash EC, and the people who live there and/or grew up there.

- It is true that there aren't as many employment opportunities within the county, but that's true of most every county which lies adjacent to a county with a larger city.
- It is true that there are problems with drugs and alcohol, but this problem is a nationwide problem - it is not at all unique to Edmonson County.
- Yes, there are people receiving public assistance....please tell me of a county in this country where there are not people on public assistance.

My point is this...sure, EC has it's problems, but there are problems in every county, every ethnic group, every race. People love to stereotype other groups of people, but that's done only out of ignorance. The issues that exist in EC are not crazy, unheard of issues...they aren't even rare!

I would also argue that, while EC has issues, just as any other county, the county also has values that are often lost in our country today. Family is important; a handshake or "your word" still means something; kids can still go to the neighbor's house SAFELY, if something is wrong...or if they just want to visit; you can trust that you're not the only one watching after your children...and if your child messes up, you will be made aware of it; you know who your children are spending time with...and know most of the parents. If those things could be said about larger communities, this country would be much better off. Despite any problems that exist, Edmonson County was a wonderful place to grow up....one that you always knew you had someone to rely on, someone that cared. While I don't live there any longer, I would welcome the opportunity to move back! I think EC's reputation is very much undeserved and rooted primarily in the ways that EC was pre-1960. Word of mouth is a powerful thing...and unfortunately, negative stereotypes are hard to live down.
