The Boss Burger Patrons are the least of the problems. Anybody who knows Oroville knows that any park in this town will only attract the best. GOOD LUCK. You better hope Boss Burger gets some patrons to utilize this waste of money so that the tweakers and perverts don't.

You got it right. All that these non-veterans, that are leading the boondoggle for a veteran's memorial, care about is that they get recognition and can be seen as patriots. Had they cared they would not have tore down homes that were housing disabled and displaced veterans and could have been used for that purpose in the future. Now we here that they destroyed this veteran housing before having the money to complete this memorial to themselves. Watch as they now grovel some more, as they have in the past, for government grants to complete this slap in the face to the true needs of our brave veterans.

Right on

It appears that no officials even cares enough to go out and look for him.

Mr. Sharkey in his Parks column blamed City of Oroville for delay. Check December 2006 agenda City to award bid for Veterens Park construction. The agenda item was tabled because the Veterans Comm...? asked for the County to be lead agency and build the park. Which by the way the County of Butte does not have or has never built any parks...? So the Vets. Comm by their own actions established a 2 year delay and so the story continues.

Next we can build a memorial for all the executioners in our prison systems. Hail to those who violate the fifth commandment. Put all their names on a plaque with George Bush's bust on top!

If you need any kind of a memorial built, Stuart (never served) Shaner is your contact person. This guy is a seasoned memorial builder even when he memorializes people (veterans) or things that he knows nothing about. If money for the memorial is needed , and fundraisers are not working, he is well practiced in begging for taxpayers monies to support his hairbrained, egotistical efforts to be seen as a patriot. Of course when our country could have used his help in time of conflict, he was no where to be found.

We erect monuments to people with the liberal mindframe all the time. They are referred to as "urinals".

This is sad. Perhaps if there were some were some true veterans in charge of this Butte County Veteran's Memorial they would understand how much the taxpayer money expended on this unecessary project would do for addressing the vital needs of our veterans.

Don't let the smoke get in your eyes. The idea for tearing down the houses that were providing shelter to disabled and displaced veterans, is actually a scheme to provide more parking space for Boss Burger. The supervisor who had them torn down was doing this as an election gimic so he could appear to be moving ahead with this memorial that has now been 7 years in the planning stage (Chico did one in two years). It is doubtful that there will be any significant construction activity for perhaps another 7 years if ever. These guys should hang their heads in shame for using (and evicting) our brave veterans for the sole purpose of advancing their own political agendas. During the last election this same supervisor thought that by wearing the American Flag as a shirt he would be seen as a patriot. This is a slap in the face to veterans who revere the flag. This guy is anything but a patriot. American flags are not to be disgraced by wearing them as shirts. But then civilians may not know this. But then civilians should not be in charge of erecting memorials to our comarades in arms.

Ditto. Connelly has been running a campaign for "change." I guess he thought it was a good idea to copy Barack Hussein Obama. Connelly has also voted to give himself a 55% pay increase. He voted several times to increase fees for required building permits. He voted to do away with the Ag exempt building permits that were less than $200; now you get to pay several thousand. He has voted over and over with the Chico Liberal supervisors; sometimes as the deciding swing vote.
I guess the change that Connelly wants is more change in his pocket and less change in ours.
As a taxpayer I am outraged at Connelly's lack of representation for the conservative District 1.

I always laugh when incumbents use "change" as their slogan. Reminds me of the bumbling political advisor scene on Pappy's porch in "O' Brother Where Art Thou?"

This guy Connelley who wants to be a supervisor has absolutely zero respect for our flag. Not only does he wrap himself in it (the shirt) but he has it painted on his political signs which are all over town and polluting our visual environment. Beware of false patriots.
