What I've read in The Reporter and what was reported on the news (t.v.) are slightly conflicting. Surprising, I know. LOL.

The Reporter states that the little old man picked up the paper at his house.

The news - this morning - said that he picked up his neighbors' paper. When the news crew tried to interview 'the neighbor', he acted strange and didn't want to talk.

This made me wonder if the victim had a habit of taking the neighbor's paper and the neighbor decided to cure him of that. I know it's terrible to think that way, but people are soooo crazy nowadays.

That would explain some things. Blowin a guy for stealin yer paper does seem a bit over the top. I thought I read that it was like 10:30 in the morning, if the guy ain't up by then and reading his paper he deserves to have it stolen.

Odd that in today's story,'the neighbor' was "watching from his window" when the bomb blew up. Too strange.....

That's right, this doesn't happen here. We're just a town of gang-banging thugs who terrorize neighborhoods and innocent citizens. And if you are unfortunate enough to be living in one of the many apartment complexes in this "over apartmentized" city then there's a good chance you will get hit by a stray bullet!!!

May 2010 Bryan cook 18 and another punk, were in park in Vacaville with home made pipe bombs.
one lost fingers, both arrested.
I wonder if these two are out and about again in Vacaville - up to no good, maybe getting even for being arrested.
Just a thought.

I read that too and thought it interesting that he is watching out an upstairs window at 10:30 after getting home from working a graveyard shift around 7:30. I also read that the old guys daughter said that his paper was already on his kitchen table at appeared to have been read.

I saw the neighbor interviewed on tv news last night and it did look a little cagey.

Yep. Something just seems a little 'off' with the story. The neighbor watching, the paper is NEVER tossed between the yards (planted to get the old guy's attention?), the neighbor 'hurting' himself trying to get out the door to help (stalling? Trying to come across as first on the scene?), and the fact that he looked like he was trying to avoid being interviewed. It will be interesting to see how it unfolds.

Hmmmm, interesting. I haven't watched it on the news, so I'm going to check it out now. Sounds like a plausible theory though. My hillbilly neighbor used to steal my paper every Sunday, and I finally canceled it. I can't see myself facing criminal charges over a paper, but at the same time I'm having evil, cruel and vicious thoughts about their cat that keeps crapping in my mulch, so I guess different things upset different people.

KGO: Vacaville Newspaper Bomb May Have Been Planted by Angry Neighbor

By Shoshana Walter|March 29, 2011 5:59 p.m.|In Crime

KGO logo squareKGO Radio said Tuesday it may have found the perp responsible for the explosion Sunday morning that sent an 85-year-old Vacaville man to the hospital with serious injuries.

The victim, Jose Sanchez-Zarco, was injured Sunday morning when he picked up a green plastic bag containing a newspaper-wrapped bomb that was sitting in between his and a neighbor’s home on Cashel Circle.

According to KGO’s Scott Lettieri, a very disgruntled Vacaville man had called into Len Tillem’s show about a week ago to complain about an elderly neighbor who kept stealing his paper. The radio station has provided police with the tape.

“I said,'look, I’ve got a picture of you right here leaning over and grabbing my paper in my driveway. What’s your problem?'” The man said during Tillem's show, asking the host whether he had any legal recourse after the theft.“I’m thinking about barfing in a piece of paper and folding it up and letting him grab it.”

“No, that’s a little extreme,” Tillem replied.

The station's revelation casts a sinister shadow over other interviews about the incident. In an article by The Reporter's Catherine Bowen, a relative indicates Sanchez-Zerco may have been reaching for someone else’s paper.

"His newspaper was on his coffee table, so either [the bomb] wasn't necessarily his newspaper, but it was a newspaper there or it could have been a package,” she says.

In the same article, neighbor Andrew Niederberger tells Bowen he thinks the placement of the newspaper near his yard was “random.”

"I don't have any enemies, I don't hate anybody, I'm just a normal guy," he said. "By being placed where it was, in the middle of the two yards, it pretty much told them that it was random. If they really were pinpointing me, it would have been up here, or on my doorstep, or right in front where I'm going to pick it up and not someone else.”

According to the Bay City News Service, police evacuated more than 40 homes near a cul-de-sac on the street. Police have not identified any suspects, nor made any arrests, according to KGO.
