I just want to go hug a tree after reading this. I had reflections of the old Coca Cola television commercial, "...with peace and harmony."
Cindy - Your union negotiated the deal. Your colleagues voted on it. Now you dislike it. I recommend you give up your very generous 4.5% pay raise which had nothing to do with performance by the way, if you want your precious calendar back.
So let's see, keep the pay raise or the calendar...hmmmmm. Your union decided the pay raise was in the best interest of you, students were never part of the problem.

In this time of economic crisis, you should be grateful you received a "simple 4.5%" COLA.
As for serving the "diverse" needs of all the children/families, be realistic - you'd be running around like a chicken with your head sliced off if you try to please all the children/families who have "diverse" needs.
And please tell me how you equate the peacefulness of Vacaville with the School District matter which you insinuate is causing Vacaville to become less "peaceful". The analogy escapes me on this one. Vacaville can still be "peaceful" with a different school calendar.
What a Drama Queen! Hope our children don't pick-up that behavior!

The majority of teachers at BV and Cooper actually did vote NO - essentially saying they would give up their "generous" (overdue, still making less than other schools in our county) raise to secure the calendar.
It would benefit more people if in fact you spent more time hugging trees than responding to posts where you clearly do not understand the argument. Or - like the majority of teachers - have no personal stake in it.

BV and Cooper are not charter schools and therefore can not act independently of the whole district. Tough cookies for you.
You amuse me by comparing VUSD salary schedule with other school district. I don't care about other school district. That argument is a vicious circle pitting one district against another and back again. You can do better than that. Teachers are paid what they are worth.
As a taxpayer and parent of a student in this town I have every right to say whatever the he11 I want to say.
Now get the tree branch out of your behind.
VCS or tutors are available if you dislike VUSD.

I totally agree with you Cindy. The calendar is not a contract issue and should not be included as such. I hope the Board votes the proposed calendar down. Year round education at two school has been successful. Parents, teachers and students love it, why take it away. Perhaps some of the administrators in the district office should have a salary cut or perhaps unnecessary jobs there should be eliminiated and year-round education saved.
