Push for annexation leaves some county residents behind

Full story: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

Jack Miller has no city to call home. He and his Hillsboro Pines neighbors fudge the truth each time they write "Coconut Creek" on outgoing mail.

The silent majority is being SNOWED AND THE USE OF SCARE TACTICS by city, county and state politicians, and the funny thing is that people actually believe it. What happen in 2002-2003 with the same services? Didnt we have sufficient services then? WHY THE HUGE INCREASES SINCE? Once you give them the money you will never see it back. Silent majority needs to wake up and start with recalls immediately. Start with Geller, Pruitt and work your way from there. Somehow STILL we just dont have a strong enough voice. WHO WILL LEAD THIS? THAT PERSON WILL BE OUR NEXT GOVENOR. If you agree with this letter, PLEASE REPLY BY SAYING "I'M IN FOR THE RECALL!!!" DON'T GET SNOWED BY POLITICIANS AND THE MEDIA.

Here is where the importance of an education plays a role.If these citizens went to school and graduated, then perhaps a better job awaits them.

Excuses Excuses Excuses
Take Broadview Park for example. Its a perfect fit with Plantations borders. But Plantation consistently refuses to annex them citing $ and that the properties would not conform to Plantations ordinances. They even went as far as saying if annexed, the residents would have to tear down part of their homes to comply.
Bogus....take the Riverland area as example. They were annexed by Ft Lauderdale and are now going through a zoning review. They actually voted to stay under the old Broward County zoning. If anything, Broadview Park can be "nonconforming"
Plantation has also said all parts of the city are under one code......really, doesnt Plantation Acres have different zoning than up east???
And what about the central Broward. Perfect fit for Ft Lauderdale but they wont annex......I wonder why.....could it be because it is 98% black.
To add insult to injury, BSO has let these areas become lawless land. Ask any deputy who works that district. They consistently work with appro. 5 deputies a shift.....crazy

Mandy Dawson, like so many so called "leaders" of the black community, is blinded by race - she can't see the economic factors that drive these decisions because she is too busy calling everyone a bigot.

I like living in Hillsboro Pines, outside of Coconut creek. We get absolutely no services besides garbage pick up. Never see a deputy or fire truck anywhere, but we never see nosy code enforcement nazis either. This is a middle to upper middle income area with NO crime. I don't know if I really want to pay a city for my water or my sewer and I sure don't want them telling me what to do.

who wants an area annexed into your city if it is dirt poor and will therefore cause more of a financial burden on the present residents of that city. prop taxes and other services of the city thats getting the annexed area will definitely be increased in prop taxes and all other services offered by that city. do u want to increase your cost of living and taxes even more than now--i doubt it very much.
its a very simple matter of economics for the city thats being considered to have an area annexed into it.
the cities and people living in them now r going thru a financial crisis due to high prop taxes and other financial situations.
a dirt poor area being annexed into a city will definitely have more crime, fires, garbage, etc, therefore the city will need more policemen, firemensanitationmen and general employees which will cost loads--guess who pays for the high increase in services for that city w/ an annexed area incorporated into that city---THE RESIDENTS OF THAT CITY.
DO U WANT YOUR EXPENSES TO GO THRU THE ROOF JUST TO ACCEPT A POOR CRIME RIDDEN ANNEXATION?
what i said and what the majority of people feel is NOT P.C.--TOO DAMN BAD. people's good quality of life should not be brought down by others who r parasites on society.

OK so now fire trucks patrol cities looking for fires. If you want to see a fire truck, set your house on fire and call 911. You want cops until they come around and write you speeding tickets. When they stroke you for riding your ATV on the road you'll be on here crying about that.

It takes a politician to say something as ignorant as, "the cities are being racist." There not being racist, they are being practical and fiscally responsible. City leaders have a responsibility to their current residents to not buy into a total money loosing venture. Anyone with common sense can see that these neighborhoods are pieces of crap. You can plant all the trees and lay all the brick pavers you want and they are still crap. It's not the infrastucture that needs to be removed and replaced. It's the people. You have a very small minority of people who are decent. The TRUTH is the rest want to stab, shoot, steal, molest, and rob each other. Here is an idea. Move these people out into L. Lakes and Lauderhill apartments and pay their rent. Tear down the shiite hole homes and build nice new beautiful homes and sell them to decent, hard working, responsible people. The tax money raised will pay the rent for these useless drains on society. The new residnets will pay taxes and contribute to the area. Problem solved.

Why should cities annex welfare areas that will only bring higher taxes for the people with jobs in their cities.

It's not racism its common sense. Have a black area without crime, without bums with stable families and decent incomes and any city will love to annex it.

Maybe Mandy should focus on the real problem and not point fingers.

Naah stable successful black folks probably would then start voting Republican. She needs the black community to be dependent on welfare for her political success.

She's the racist keeping blacks down.

1. After reading all the racist postings here, how can anyone say that race is not an issue?
2. My neighborhood, BROADVIEW PARK, is not annexed. We also are not crime ridden, on welfare, all lack an education, full of drugs,...,... In fact most people here are very family oriented, work very hard for a living and are decent human beings
3. SO, WHY DO THE CITIES NOT WANT US?
A. Plantation annexed all commercial property in the 441 area so they could get the revenues without having to provide many services.
B. Davie annexed the commercial property on the corner of 441 and St. Rd. 84 in our neighborhood. Why would these cities want us after they already stripped away much of our commercial tax base?
C. Mayor Truex has a pretty strong hold on the Davie. As a Republican, he has figured out that Broadview Park has approximately 60% registered Democrats. That is the sole reason he does not want Davie to annex Broadview Park. POLITICAL SELF PRESERVATION. It has nothing to do with what is best for the Town of Davie or Broadview Park. He is paranoid. On one hand he holds a bible and claims to be a Christian, on the other he says that "Broadview Park is a blighted area" and Davie should not annex it. Do good Christians turn their backs on the poor?
D. Property values in the neighborhood have risen to cover costs of services. Furthermore, the county is currently spending $53 million in infrastructure.
E. New roads, new sidewalks, new entryways, new landscaping, new sewers, new water lines. Why wouldn't someone want a middle class neighborhood with all those new amenities? Just provide police, fire, and a few other servives. POLITICS, my friends!
We can argue about race and what is best for the cities, while those in power just get more powerful at our expense!

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Pisces

If you-know-who has been getting on your nerves recently, matters will soon come to a head and force you to take drastic action. As Mars turns tail in your sixth house, you might finally lose your rag with someone at work who's been testing your patience to the limit. Stand your ground if you feel you're being messed about in some way. Clear the air if needs be, but don't create a really nasty atmosphere by throwing an eye-popping tantrum. Take care of any infections.
