This sounds like very poor management and a theft waiting to happen. Why was the weekend money still there on Tuesday night, just waiting to be stolen?

I agree with SKL. It's sad that it happened, but whoever made the decision about keeping cash virtually unsecured on the premises should be fired.

Probably an inside job, that is what happens when you pay your employees minimum wage. Just because you are a charity doesn't mean that your employees want to donate their time.

Manager needs to be fired. No excuse for that cash to be left in the store overnight. Lie detector tests should be given to all employees immediately. Definately an inside job...

Every where I have ever worked that took in money, the night manager counted it, collected it and deposited it in the night deposity of the bank EVERY night. Leaving money in the cash register is a theft waiting to happen. I agree, it was an inside job. Random criminals would have assumed the cash had been deposited and the cash register drawers were empty.

I think it was an inside job too. Somebody knew that the manager left that kind of money lieing around, and knew all the good hiding places.

doesn't matter if the money was for charity or my next house payment. the fact that it was left basically lying around up for grabs points to stupidity. that tries the integregy of even honest people. whoever decided that the money should be locked in a drawer overnight should be held responsible, and accountable for paying every penny of it back to the company.

The same folks that would rob a for profit organization will rob a charity. If they are without a conscience and think stealing is ok they will rob anyone including each other if their was more than one. I agree with other posters that this looks to be an inside job why else would cash be left overnight. Common retail practice is to make a nightly deposit at the bank. Usually the manager is required to use the closest bank to the store.
