We're lucky to be living in an era in which this technology will come of age.

Too bad fetal stem cells have proven a complete dead end!

Umbilical, and more importantly, adult, stem cell development has proven a Godsend.

That's absolute fiction.

Technology that would make the harvest of pluripotent cells from fetuses obsolute will be years in the making.

There is simply no reason to allow superstitious beliefs in the supernatural to affect our work with embryonic stem cells.

One day, such work will no doubt be unnecessary, but that is no reason to delay life saving research simply because folks would rather see that tissue thrown in the garbage than put to put to good use in history making research.

The fact that the FDA is pulling the reins back in Broomfield should be a comfort to those folks who fear that this kind of development harbors chicken little fantasies based on pure 90's fiction.

The problem is the religiosity that folks insist on inserting into the nation's labs and hospital rooms.

In another 100 years, the religious "FRight" preaching sky is falling rhetoric about embryonic stem cell research will be seen in the same light as the moonies that refused cancer treatment for their children because they believed "god" would save them.

It comes down to rights and a choice...yet again.

You don't have the right to stand in the way of other folks taking advantage of legal healthcare treatments. Not in front of an abortion clinic...not in front of a clinic specializing in embryonic stem cell research and development.

If you're going to be the next rube in the long line of rubes that have refused the latest and greatest healthcare treatments...from antibiotics to x-rays to chemo to stem cells...because you think prayer is gonna cure alzheimers...then go ahead...be that billy...be that slack-jawed yokel.

This is just yet another issue upon which the FRight's foundation is built upon willful ignorance...about the current benefits of continued use of embryonic stems cells...about the effects and causes of GW...about the modern civil rights movement involving same sex marriage...about Creationism in science class...about Abstinence Only Sex Ed...etc...etc...etc.

I'd be ashamed to actually try to defend such ridiculous territory, but darn it if some of you don't try...to the entertainment of us all.

So I guess...well done...if nothing else...you're still more funny than scary.

I don't hate religion at all, my little Pouting Troll.

I just think that cultural beliefs and superstitions are a personal thing that should be enjoyed on your own time.

But that's a nice try.

Grandma and Granmas along with 40 something weekend warriors need this to help them continue to work in life and feel good about the future. Using your own cells to help healing instead of using a cane or getting a replace joint, which cost everybody. Over silly beliefs? Ain't going to happen. This tech will continue to grow and improve despite backword thinking.

This is just a sign of things to come. Government involvement in individuals healthcare. MEDICINE IS NOT THE GOVERNMENTS JOB! But you can bet once 'Obamacare' goes into full effect, there will be a whole lot more stories like this one. The government has no business interfereing with peoples health or the treatment they choose. They can't manage Medicare, nor most other government "benefits" such as welfare, properly. What in God's name makes them think they know a single thing about any individuals health or the lack thereof?! Stay the hell out of my business!

The time it took you to write all of that about 60 babies/kids died in the world. Crazy when you think about it. Ever wonder why the FDA wants to stop Stem Cell research and Curb marijuana? 2 scientifically proven methods of helping people suffer LESS day in and day out? FDA has no hold on what money they can make and they have to control that power. Power struggle is the real issue here. Abortion is going to happen no matter how long Christians cry about it. Everyone has there own take on the bible. I personally think the Dead Sea Scrolls were a hoax by the Jewish who want to make the world think the Essenes were the creators of the Bible, but that is another topic all together. I think the FDA should back off of things that work ad show promise for people. They should focus on the true BAD MEDICINES. All those you see on TV that have side effects that include death or suicide? Why even allow that to be sold? Then 5 years downthe road you see some lawyer infomercial claiming YOU COULD BE ENTITLED TO MONEY IF YOU OR ANYONE YOU KNOW HAS DIED FROM said product? Well if you died isn't it too late?

I had stem cells for a bad hip last year and send my mental gratitude daily to these doctors for their good care!!! I now fully enjoy being the very youthful 55 plus woman that I am. Conventional health care offered me a cane, pills and hip replacement surgery.(and by the way..what does any of this have to do with "Obamacare" this is the FDA)...my proceedure was not covered by my insurance. I paid CASH out of pocket. It was my personal choice between me and my doctors. The USA is already soooooo behind the times with stem cell research no thanks to BUSH...but stem cell research will continue to move forward overseas. I just feel bad that patients must wait in pain for their procedures until this is resolved.

Conspiracy Theory: The FDA is running shotgun for big pharmaceutical companies getting ready to step in and steal the technology and the market for these treatments. They will loose billions of dollars by people finding a better way to be treated and refusing to purchase their pain pills and other medicines required for people to be cut open and dissected.

Reality: The success of these treatments is one of the biggest medical breakthroughs since medicine was invented.

I agree with your "conspiracy theory"...WHO OWNS NATURE???...Over the last 30 years there has been a corporate concentration to commodify natural resources. A perfect example is to look at what happend to our seed supply...farmers used to cultivate their own seeds or buy from plant breeders. Now, Monsanto and Dupont have genetically modified the seed supply(hybrids/GMO)deliberatel y making the seeds they sell to farmers sterile. Farmers are now forced to rebuy there seeds every year at higher and higher prices because their seeds won't reproduce. I have no doubt that big pharmaceutical companies are looking out or their furtures and want a BIG piece of this stem cell action....after all who's gonna buy their drugs after people are healed by their own stem cell injections??? I used to take 3 Advil a day for my bad hip...but I haven't taken an Advil in 17 months. I've been living comfortably since my treatments completion at the Centeno/Schultz Clinic.
