There has been no lawsuit filed by anyone. the people seeking the dismantlement are from Wisconsin and the best thing that can be done is to ignore them. We do not have to answer to anyone from Wisconsin. There is no way anything will be done with the display this year. If they want to take actions to court, let them spend the money. Everyone just take a deep breath and relax. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL.
Well said.

Who cares about the rumor, I still won't go to the Goldfinch because their food quality plummeted into the toilet after being bought from the Finch's.

Political correctness is just a bunch of easily offended people wandering around looking for a reason to be offended. They need an actual goal or purpose in life. But most of the ones who have the time and energy to chase after these kinds of issues are not usually all that successful in anything.
Separation of church and state means the government cannot declare an official, state-sponsored religion. Hardly a declaration of a government religion to consider the majority of the population who wishes to create a public expression of their faith during a holiday. That's what it's always meant.
Yet these atheists want to foist their own philosophy onto the rest of the world instead of just politely allowing people to practice their own expressions in their own faith.
Freedom of religion means that I have every right to publically practice my faith out in the open. If the atheists wish to erect some kind of nothing memorial to nothing, then I have no problem with them doing so on public property. They have just as much right to publically express belief in nothing, and I encourage them to actually spend their time and energy in promoting their own beliefs through similar activities. Put up a nothing monument to nothing.

DANG!!! Sorry about the double post above. It wasn't showing up & then just a soon as I re-posted it, it finally showed up but I don't have the ability of removing one of them. Oh well, it's worth reading again. LOL Might give some ammunition for fighting those trying to have the Nativity scene brought down.
Thank you for posting this I printed this out for others to read and I vote we put two beautiful Christmas trees on either side of our nativity scene.

I happen to agree with the previous post saying that it may not even go as far as court. This Wisconsin foundation simple wrote a letter demanding the removal & asks that we reply in writing on what we plan to do about it. As far as I hear, there's no official court actions at all! They can demand all they want & use whatever impressive fancy legal jargon to try & make us believe there is validity to it but in the end, it's just a plain old letter making a demand that they have no way of enforcing! Plain & simple. From articles I've read, some places have buckled & taken down or moved displays, solely cause they were scared not to.

All the petitions people are signing won't do a thing really. The law is the law. But I suspect in this case, there isn't a law YET against our display on the court house lawn.

I feel bad that the poor owners at Gold Finch are probably being hurt by all this. All because someone said it was them that started all this. Shucks, I could have come on here & told you that the owners of IGA, Alco, Dollar Store, Dairy Cottage, etc. started it. That don't make it so people!!!!!!!

From the news story on SCPO:

"She did say the display violates the separation of church and state, and is unconstitutional because it is on government property and paid for with government funds.

The latter is one thing county commissioner Tom Wilson agrees with.

"The City of Brookville owns it, the fire department puts it up every year for the last 40 some years."

Ok, please tell TOm WIlson that he's wrong. The thing was paid for with DONATED funds, and it has not even been here for 40 years. I can tell you EXACTLY -- it was new at Christmas 1990.

I think Tommy meant there has been one on the courthouse lawn for that long. I remember helping re-paint the old set when I was in high school art class in the mid 70's.

No need to nitpick.

This is sad - that someone would post that lie ... and that is exactly why I said that, "if it is in fact true".... I will not be going there"! Don't blindly accept what is posted on Topix - find out for yourself so that you can form your own conclusion/opinion.

i DO support the nativity and I plan to be there Sat. I just think it's important when the media get involved to be precise about what's said.

And while I'm giving my opinion, I'd like to say that the November Noel thing needs to be moved BACK TO THE COURTHOUSE. It is ridiculous that the Main Sreet group and the Chamber of Commerce have moved this to Priessman's. It should be right there in the middle of town, not to benefit a single business.
