Would you or would you not want to know when you were going to die? And if so why.

Well Born Free,
I used to wonder that myself........
My answer would be NO!
Why ruin the quality of each day waking up to a pot of fresh brewed coffee, hearing birds singin and thinking.........
Thank you Lord God for the gift of another day of living.........
Instead of dreading and become a nutcase worry wort about when it will end?
My opinion is always... have your plans and have your relationship with God for that possibility in order anyway.........
Good question!

I agree with you Pebbles. I was given a year and every morning I thank Jesus for another day. My husband and my sisters were very upset with the doctor. They feel a doctor shouldn't be able to tell a patient that. We feel God is the only one that knows when my time is up. I love the Lord and I try to treat people kind and with respect. I won't lie. Sometimes I'm scared to death and I just have to remind myself the Lord doesn't give you a spirit of fear. Thank you Pebbles, your reply truly helped. God Bless you and yours!

I can see how you feel. But there is another side to consider too. That's what would have been right for you and your family. There are people (a lot of them) who press the doctor for "how long do I have?" answers. The doctor is already in a bad spot, having to break the news to you and your family--and wants to be sure offer as much to you as possible. The doctor isn't telling you that as if he is "God". He is telling you to try to help you as much as he can in a bad situation. Imagine if you were in the docs shoes. How would you feel needing to tell somebody there was not much more you could do? If that's what you needed, it was up to you to let him know that for him to tell you "when" wasn't helpful. Then he wouldn't offer it. Bless you for many healthy days to come.

Interesting view and a good one too........
Doctors are in a "catch 22" on that and I understand.......
I, personally do not want to spend the quality of living today to circle a date when the big day is estimated.........
People get killed in auto accidents, farming accidents, gun accidents etc. yet getting up that morning knowing you are loved and happy..........
That is living to me.
Opinion only......

So many people don't plan for death. By that I mean they don't have their finances in order, so as to not leave their family in dire straights. Their family may not know they have life insurance, they may have had an estrangement that should have been worked out prior, so in knowing that your days, weeks, months or years are numbered may help you with factors you would not think of otherwise. Having someone, a Dr., tell you you have a time limit on earth does not simply make it so, but it does allow you to make some plans if you should need to do so.
All in all, it comes down to living one's life as well as possible, be prepared for that time whenever it may come. We certainly don't know as Pebbles has noted.

Everyone has made a good and valid point. I'm blessed, all my affairs are in order and I was blessed to be able to do that and not leave that burden on my children. Thank all of you for your opinions and God Bless!

People have a right to know if they have been diagnosed with something that may take thier lives soon. They need time to get their life in order for the sake of their loved ones. If you have ever gone through anything like that and can get all affairs in order it does make the process a little better.
