Obama Orders Raise for Biden, Members of Congress, Federal Workers

By DANIEL HALPER

President Barack Obama issued an executive order to end the pay freeze on federal employees, in effect giving some federal workers a raise. One federal worker now to receive a pay increase is Vice President Joe Biden.

According to disclosure forms, Biden made a cool $225,521 last year. After the pay increase, he'll now make $231,900 per year.

Members of Congress, from the House and Senate, also will receive a little bump, as their annual salary will go from $174,000 to 174,900. Leadership in Congress, including the speaker of the House, will likewise get an increase.

Obama refuses to pay Portsmouth $30K for campaign visit costs
By Elizabeth Dinan

December 19, 2012 - 1:08 PM
PORTSMOUTH — A request by the city to be reimbursed $30,003 in costs associated with a Sept. 7 presidential campaign stop has been denied by the Obama for America office.
By majority vote of the City Council, the city requested the reimbursement for police, fire and public works crews to assist with the campaign stop by President Barack Obama, first lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden. According to city officials, the president's campaign stop at Strawbery Banke Museum required a week of advance planning and an estimated 6,000 people attended the free event.
Portsmouth's costs included $15,386 for police services,$9,870 for fire and ambulance crews, and $4,746 for DPW assistance needed for road closures and maintenance.
In a letter to City Manager John Bohenko, Ann Marie Habershaw, chief operating officer for Obama for America, said her organization,“did not participate in security, traffic control, fire or EMS planning.”
“All such decisions, including their impact on costs incurred by federal, state or local governments, are exclusively within the control of the appropriate government officials,” Habershaw wrote to the city.“Should there be a question about the allocation of expenses among the cooperating authorities, we assume that it should be directed to the U. S. Secret Service.”
The Secret Service public affairs office in Washington DC referred to a Secret Service field office in Manchester. There, a spokesperson who asked not to be named, said the Secret Service doesn't have a budget to reimburse communities for presidential security. Further, she said, Secret Service advance teams meet with community leaders in advance of presidential visits and if those local leaders say they can't provide the needed support, the Secret Service arranges to get it elsewhere.
Republican City Councilor Ken Smith was an advocate for seeking reimbursement from the Obama campaign committee and said Wednesday that the committee should pay because the visit was purely a campaign stop.
While stating it was “an honor and a privilege to have the president of the United States here,” Smith said, Obama's campaign raised “hundreds of millions of dollars to cover the costs of their campaign.”

“Because it was not an official visit, they should pay,” he said.
Part of the local costs, Smith said, were for local police officers to stand by while the president, vice president and their wives had lunch at Mombo restaurant.
Durham Town Administrator Todd Selig provided Seacoast Media Group with a similar letter that town received from the Obama campaign. Durham's request for reimbursement for costs associated with a presidential campaign visit was denied and the town was also referred to the Secret Service.
“In addition, Portsmouth City Manager John Bohenko and I have discussed this issue recently and plan to reach out jointly to our federal legislative delegation after the New Year to inquire whether the matter could be equitably addressed for all cities and towns across the country through federal campaign finance reform focusing upon this pressing issue for taxpayers at the local level,” Selig said.

( CNSNews.com )- In a legal argument formally presented in federal court in the case of Hobby Lobby v. Kathleen Sebelius, the Obama administration is claiming that the First Amendment—which expressly denies the government the authority to prohibit the “free exercise” of religion—nonetheless allows it to force Christians to directly violate their religious beliefs even on a matter that involves the life and death of innocent human beings.

Because federal judges—including Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor—have refused to grant an injunction protecting the owners of Hobby Lobby from being forced to act against their Christian faith, those owners will be subject to federal fines of up to $1.3 million per day starting Tuesday for refusing to include abortion-inducing drugs in their employee health plan.

The Obama administration is making a two-fold argument for why it can force Christians to act against their faith in complying with the regulation it has issued under the Obamacare law that requires virtually all health care plans to cover, without co-pay, sterilizations, contraceptives, and abortion-inducing drugs.

Obamacare contains twenty new or higher taxes. Five of the taxes hit for the first time on January 1. In total, Americans face a net $1 trillion tax hike for the years 2013-2022, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

It depends on which news media you are "reading" or "watching " what the REAL story is. USA Today reports only an hour ago that.....
"President Obama has served notice he wants to lift the two-year pay freeze on civilian federal employees, including Vice President Biden and all members of Congress."
"Wants to". Is the key phrase here. I'm a Federal employee ... No pay raise the last two years and I'm fine with that ..... I'm fine with another year extension on the freeze. Although the savings to be realized do not even come close to making a difference in the fiscal problems this country has. AND I do my job, plus that of three others who cannot be replaced due to budget cuts. I'm still ok with it ... I'll do my part BUT on the other hand....
Given the fact Congress cannot even get the job done on avoiding the fiscal cliff to even suggest Congress deserves a raise is an outrageous insult to allAmericans.

Congress will get their raise, they always do. Why would Obama want to do this now? Oh that's right he wants to reward the losers like himself.

I'd say at this point the GOP had better get down to business and quit the bitchin and in-fighting before they implode. Especially if they'd like to be re-elected at some point, which I am sure they will. Shut up and govern.

GOP has held the middle class hostage long enough.
They need to stop hiding behind clergy and rich lobbist's skirts. Brookville and Washington DC sure look like political twin cities. It's who you know and what church or bank you belong to. Then there are just those who follow the crowd hoping to gain a favor from the "importants" of the egotistical group we middle class support for all their lives with OUR tax dollars! Do what the Roman's say but not as they do themselves.

How many times has Obama gone to Hawaii?
During Bush’s two terms, the cost of operating Air Force One ranged from $56,800 to $68,000 an hour. Bush used Air Force One 77 times to go to his ranch in Crawford, TX. Using the low end cost of $56,800, Media Matters calculated that each trip to Crawford cost taxpayers $259,687 each time, and $20 million total for Bush’s ranch flights.
If cost of the flight was the only expense involved to taxpayers Bush’s vacations would still seem rather economical, but there is more, much more. Unlike the Obama’s $4 million Christmas vacation price tag, which includes the cost of everything from transportation to accommodations for the First Family, the White House staff, and the White House press corps, Bush’s numbers only include the cost of flying the president to Crawford. The cost of transporting and accommodating staff, media, friends and family is not included in Bush’s vacation numbers.

Guess what? Bush sucks too! We the tax payers should not be paying for all of these vacations, stay the hell in D.C. and do your dam job, second thought, stay in Hawaii or better yet go back to Indonesia.

During his Tuesday night address after the House passed the Biden/McConnell fiscal cliff deal, President Obama said,“While I will negotiate over many things, I will not have another debate with this Congress about whether or not they should pay the bills they have already racked up.”
With that lecture about fiscal responsibility out of the way, Obama then headed back to Hawaii to resume what will end up being a $7 million vacation:
In a move that is rich in irony, President Obama agreed Tuesday night to sign an emergency deficit reduction bill that does almost nothing to rein in spending and then jetted out to Hawaii to resume his vacation at an extra cost of more than $3 million to taxpayers.
The price tag is in addition to more than $4 million that is already being spent on the Obamas’ Hawaii idyll, bringing the total cost of the excursion to well over $7 million.

That is what is wrong with America we took our minds off the top and spent ourselves into so much debt we can't even take a week off work to march on Washington and demand change. What happen to us that we have let our forefathers down, our Miltary who fought and fights for our freedom as we sit by and let a government walk right the hell over top of us. At what point do we as America deamand the changes start at the top not the bottom. Will we let them starve us out as they get richer till there is no class but them and the poor. I don't care what name it goes by bush obama biden it is all one in the same by the time they get to the top they owe to many to ever do anything for the middle and bottom. Stand up America Fire them all
